World bank ranks: Kenya second on logistics

World bank ranks: Kenya second on logistics

Wilson airport has had 2 runways for as long as I can remember. In terms of frequency of air traffic , she is the 2nd busiest in Africa with 120000 movements in 2012. But JKIA is still the boss, with more than 2times the passenger traffic of the next 2 biggest competition in the EAC
none above 2200 km mark! so uselessly capacitywise!

For a veeeery long time, Nairobi and Mombasa will still remain the Hubs for the entire East and Central Africa, Tz airports renovations not withstanding.
JNIA will be the largest airport in the region after phase II and Phase III construction currently underway! Mind u, ur overambitiously Greenfield project is no more! Mind u that will be the 8th airport with capacity to host bigger jets to A380 size! After Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA), Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA), Aman Abeid Karume International Airport (ZIA), Mwanza Airport, Songwe Airport, Gombe Mahale international Airport, Serengeti international Airport and Ngerengere airforce! Aside medium sized airports like Bukoba, Tabora, Arusha and Mtwara Airports

They're meant for light craft hence no need to have them long.

The 2 JNIA runways are of 3000 and 1000 metres respectively, while Mombasa's MIA has 2 runways of 3350 and 1363 metres, hence significantly larger

The greenfield terminal was shelved for JKIA in favor of a 2nd runway, 5500m in length

Well, I like the diversity you're trying to create but in terms of passengers handled per annum, their numbers are bleak.

Summing the passenger traffic of all these airports, some of which are still projects u/c or proposed, their total is 4, 880,000. JKIA alone handled 6,700,000 in the same year, 2015. Mombasa's MIA handled 1,500,000 the same year or close to a third of that number. Kazi bado ipo Geza, kazi bado ipo

Livale, so 2 aiports in Kenya vs 8 airports in Tanzania!
Hoho, wish it were so. JKIA of Nairobi, MIA of Mombasa, Wilson of Nairobi, Eldoret International airport, Kisumu International airport, Isiolo international airport, Manda international airport in Lamu, Lokichogio airport in Turkana, the last 3 being part of the LAPPSET project, and those are just the ones with international status. Regional airports with paved runways are in most Counties.

Aside JKIA n MIA, none of the other have runways above 2200km the minimum distance for international airport. BTW can u provide us with evidence that Mombasa airpor PAX is 1.5mln? I doubt that figure...

Tafadhali Geza, do some lil bit of research before denying or countering something.

Kisumu International airport has a runway length of 3300m, Eldoret International airport has a runway length of 3475m, the 3 lapset airports each have 2438m according to the initial project plan. If that changed then I don't know having not used them

For MIA, check the KAA stats

when all yhe expantion is completed at JNIA, its capacity will rise to 6milliin,

JKIA currently has a capacity for 7million.... so go back to your cacoon, its not yet safe for you to come out tz

The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for the first time in more than two decades has the capacity to handle more travellers with the opening of a new terminal last week.
President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday officially opened the Sh1.7 billion pre-fabricated Terminal Two that can handle 2.5 million passengers — pushing the airport’s capacity to 7.5 million travellers annually.
The airport has struggled to handle more than six million people as its regional importance grew. Last year, 6.5 million people went through the airport. “The launch and coming to stream of this new Terminal 2 will significantly ease congestion at JKIA,” said Yatich Kangugo, the acting MD of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA).

....
and expanding the capacity and actually handling the traffic are two different things, the greenfield terminal might have been shelved in kenya but that doesnt mean the curent terminals cannot be expanded/renovated and increase the capacity, there is still some construction going on, besides that, there are plans to build a medical center,a 5start hotel and other amenities withing jkia land,...... that alone will increase alot of convinience for persengers and airlines....... which will make them want to make jkia their permernent hub in this side of the sahara (eg turkey airways are already building there own lounges at jkia to solodify there position at jkia, cargo campanies are opening state of the art warehouses and cargo storage facilities since jkia is a logistics hub for the region.... while JNIA is just starting to crawl

Livale, by February of this year Kisumu airport had a runway length of 2km n width of 30m unfit for bigger jets i.e. B747 n above! Kafrican mind u terminal II received funds for expansion too from France! Total capacity will b 9mln PAX

Show us where it says it will be 9million and not six..... From what I know was after terminal 1 was finished your capacity would increase to 3.5PAX then after terminal II, it would increase to 6million,.... Don't attempt to cook figures here to suit your conversation, besides if you expand to 9million the airport will always be empty for the next 5yrs based on the current traffic which passes through every year

Terminal 3, Julius Nyerere Airport, phase 1 and 2 - Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
The construction of the main terminal building – facilitating 6 million annual passengers – including parking lots, access roads, platforms and taxiway.

Phase 1 of the scope of work comprises the construction of the main terminal building - facilitating 3.5 million annual passengers - including parking lots, access roads, platforms, and a taxiway. The design of the roof is inspired on the traditional sailing boats that can be found at the Dar es Salaam Coast. The new terminal 3 is designed (together with NACO, Netherlands Airport Consultants) for the anticipated growth of international air traffic, leaving the existing international Terminal 2 to cater for domestic flights. The second phase will then provide further capacity to facilitate 6 million annual passengers.
