World bank ranks: Kenya second on logistics

World bank ranks: Kenya second on logistics

Nakwambia! Doesn't make logic at all...

HHHHHh

The Kenya of today is too busy and too complicated for some decisions to be centralized... The reaction in namanga is completely the work of the local people and some of the government reps (both national and county) and has nothing to do with Central government in Nairobi... That's how Kenya's has always worked interns of decision making...

So by the time that issue gets to the president, the situation will have to get alot worse than it is...

Anyway, what Tz did was un neibourly and against the spirit of EA, you should have called a meeting with Kajiado County commissioner and county government and told them what you were planning then maybe Kenya itself would have told their citizens to come back and facilitated them.... That's how neibouring countries should behave, although you are a sovereign nation, you notify a friendly neibour of such things, you don't just wake up one day and give people ultimatums! .... There is a tanzanian who said he has lived on the kenyan side for the last 10 years without documents and has never been harassed by kenyan authorities even though they knew he dint have valid documents.... So what did you expect from the locals in namanga when you did what you did across the border? You can't predict the reaction of an angry Kenyan... It was wrong of them to chase away some of the Tanzanians (because they lose the moral authority) but it is what it is..
Kinacho nishangaza ni kutu kimoja, kwanini wakenya anything they don't like about Tanzania you will say Magufuli did thia. Mnafikiri order ya ku deport illegal immigrant inatoka kwake? the local security committee ndio wanafanya hiyo kazi. There people who have been entrusted kufanya kazi yao kama vile sheria inavyosema. Kama vile unasema Kenyatta can't do anything (which I don't believe that, ask Gov Joho) na Magufuli hivyo hivyo, maybe even himself he have read it on paper or heard it on the radio about Namanga.

  • This was said in Dar es Salaam yesterday by Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn during his tour of the country’s largest port.
  • “I’m glad to learn that the Tanzania Ports Authority is working very hard to make the service competitive so that when we bring our ships here, it will benefit our people,” said the Premier during his brief tour before flying back to Ethiopia.
Dar es Salaam. Ethiopia has decided that its shipping line will make Dar es Salaam its new port of call.

This was said in Dar es Salaam yesterday by Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn during his tour of the country’s largest port.

“I’m glad to learn that the Tanzania Ports Authority is working very hard to make the service competitive so that when we bring our ships here, it will benefit our people,” said the Premier during his brief tour before flying back to Ethiopia.

He underscored the importance of marine transportation for the two nations to attain economic transformation and quicker economic volumes.

The Ethiopian Shipping Lines S.C. was founded in1964 G.C. and started operation in 1966 G.C. with three newly built ships (two general cargos and one tanker).

Mr Desalegn said his government would send a team of experts to team up with their Tanzanian counterparts and identify areas of cooperation in the transportation sector.

While welcoming him, the Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa expressed the country’s commitment to strengthen further bilateral ties between the two nations.

Earlier, TPA director general Deusdedit Kakoko briefed the Ethiopian Premier on activities of the port and expressed commitment that the authority was committed to serving Ethiopia in its development path.

“We’re ready and capable of receiving Ethiopian ships and cargo through efficient, effective and safe cargo hub here at our main port,” Mr Kakoko noted.

The port chief said Ethiopian cargo will be handled safely through a fast-tracked and properly networked logistics of a surface and air intermodal transport system.

As such, he reiterated that TPA was prepared to team-up with their Ethiopian counterparts to make the dream of two countries a reality based on the fact that the political will has been cemented.

For his part, Works, Transport and Communications minister Makame Mbarawa commended Ethiopia for the achievements it has made so far in terms of unprecedented industrial growth.

Prof Mbarawa said the government of Tanzania enjoys cordial diplomatic relations with the Ethiopia, urging that such relations should be extended further to enhance trade and economic relations.

He said already Tanzania has exchanged experiences on best practices from Ethiopia in areas of economic policies, investment, energy, transport, sports and housing schemes among other key areas.

Tanzania road development projects being planned
First publishedon www.WorldHighways.com
A series of major road projects are now being planned in Tanzania, with funding sources for much of the work having been identified and secured. The largest of these is being delivered with a World Bank loan worth US$425 million, which will help pay for transport improvements in Tanzania’s capital, Dar es Salaam.

In addition, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) will carry out the $84.5 million Ubungo interchange project. This is the meeting point for the Morogoro, Sam Nujoma and Nelson Mandela roads. The junction currently handles some 60,000 vehicles/day and experiences heavy congestion at peak periods. The work should take 30 months to carry out and will improve journey times for drivers as well as safety when it is finished.

And the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (Kuwait Fund) is providing a loan worth $49 million to upgrade the 85.5km stretch of road connecting Chaya with Nyahua. This follows an agreement between the Kuwait Fund and the Ministry for Finance and Planning for Tanzania. Work being carried out includes rebuilding the drainage system, carrying out earthmoving, surfacing the route and also constructing bridges. The work on this route will boost transport between Kigoma and Port of Dar es Salaam as well as neighbouring nations such as the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) and Burundi.

Speaking during the launch of the construction of the 80MW Hydroelectric Project yesterday, Ms Bella Bird, the World Bank Country Director for Tanzania, Burundi, Malawi and Somalia said the expected cost of power generated by the project plant was 6c per Kwh,which is much lower than the average cost of power in Burundi (10c/Kwh), Rwanda (26c/Kwh) and Tanzania (12c/Kwh).

Dar es Salaam. The Rusumo Falls Hydroelectric Project is expected to reduce power generation costs in all beneficiary countries of Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda.

Ms Bird added that offering the opportunity to shift from higher cost thermal generation, the hydroelectric plant would also place participating countries in sustainable development.

Ms Bird said there was no question that access to energy drove development and that people in towns and villages across the region were hungry for affordable and reliable power in their homes.

“Power creates jobs and opportunities. It helps to create hope for the future and stability. We know from across the world that it is not only access, but also affordability that matters, especially to poor households,” said the WB regional director. The ceremony, which took place at the Rusumo site on the Kagera River, was witnessed by ministers of Energy, Water and Finance from all the three beneficiary countries, board members of Rusumo Power Company Limited from respective shareholder countries, representatives of the World Bank and the African Development Bank (AfDB), the financiers of the project and other key stakeholders.

The construction of the power generation plant is financed by the World Bank at $340 million, while transmission lines that will connect the power plant to the national grids in the three countries is financed by the AfDB at $121 million. The project will provide an additional 26.6MW to each of the beneficiary member states and strengthen power interconnection.

Burundi, Rwanda And Tanzania Commence 80 MW Hydroelectric Construction
Posted By: newbusin
Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania today witnessed ground-breaking ceremony for construction of the 80 MW Regional Rusumo Falls Hydro-electric Project.

The Rusumo falls is located on the Kagera River on the border between Rwanda (Southeast) and Tanzania (Northwest) and about 25 kilometers downstream of Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania common border point. The Falls are approximately 15 meters high and 40 meters wide. The catchment at the falls drains to the territories of Tanzania & Rwanda.

The Rusumo falls was identified as a potential area for hydropower generation as early as 1970s, to address inadequate energy, which is one of the major socio-economic development challenges facing Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania, which still have low rates of electricity access.

Although the three partner states discussed over several years to move Rusumo falls project forward, implementation of the highly needed project was not forthcoming due to a number of reasons, including lack of commitment from the partner states, lack of investment finance, civil conflict as well as absence of a joint institution to coordinate the project.

Construction of the Power Generation Plant is financed by the World Bank at a cost of USD 340 million while the transmission lines that will connect the power plant to the national grids in the three countries is financed bythe African Development Bank (AfDB) at a cost of USD 121 million.

The ceremony, which took place at the Rusumo site on the Kagera River, is witnessed by Ministers of Energy, Water and Finance from the three beneficiary countries namely; Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania. Board Members of Rusumo Power Company Limited from the respective shareholder countries, representatives of the World Bank and the African Development Bank, who are financiers of the project, as well as other key stakeholders, have also attended.

Among the numerous benefits, the project will provide an additional 26.6MW to each of the beneficiary Member States and strengthen the regional power interconnection between the countries. It will improve livelihoods of the 7,000 households in the beneficiary districts under the local area development program and another 188 households directly affected by the projects through livelihood restoration program. This is in addition to providing job opportunities for over 500 skilled, non- skilled and casual workers from the three beneficiary countries.

Construction of the Power Plant is expected to last three years, until 2020. CGCOC Group Ltd – Jiangxi Water & Hydropower Construction Company Ltd Joint Venture (CGCOC – JWHC JV) of P.R. China will execute the Civil Works/Supply and Installation of Hydro-Mechanical Equipment, while the Consortium Rusumo Falls Andritz Hydro GmbH (Germany) and Andritz Hydro PVT Ltd (India), will supply and install Electro-Mechanical Equipment for power plant.

The Rusumo Power Plant is being implemented by the Nile Equatorial Lakes Subsidiary Action Program Coordination Unit (NELSAP-CU) mandated by the three countries through the Special Purpose Vehicle, the Rusumo Power Company Ltd (RPCL). The RPCL is jointly owned utility company by the three countries, institutional mechanism set-up for the co-management of power generation and supply to national power utilities.

NELSAP Regional Coordinator, Eng. Elicad Elly Nyabeeya, recognises that the Regional Rusumo Falls Hydro-electric Project is complex, transboundary in nature, with a number of different components and several key stakeholders, thus demands effective coordination and management to deliver the required Power Plant, associated transmission lines, and sub-stations in a timely manner. He reiterates that once the project is completed, it will enhance socio-economic growth, reinforce regional cooperation, partnership and peace within the Kagera River Basin countries.

The development of the Regional Rusumo Hydroelectric Project idea was revived in 2006 and championed by Nile Equatorial Lakes Subsidiary Action Program Coordination Unit (NELSAP-CU), the investment arm ofthe Nile Basin Initiative (NBI).

The Project design is a Run-of-River Development Scheme with a normal operating water level of 1,320 meters above mean sea level. The Run of River Development Scheme was selected by the beneficiary governments because it maintains the natural flow of the river and does not significantly modify the natural environment; it minimizes environmental and social impacts of the project and provides for the least cost implementation for environmental management and resettlemen.

Nimepitia hio Barbara mara mbili, hope next time itakua sooth sailing all the way to kakamega.. Manake from Nairobi-Nakuru-Kisumu it was amazing but from kisumu to kakamega it was a construction site, about two hours of madness!

I Liked kakamega Town (CBD) I thought I would find a dusty creeping town, but it was cool organised with roads and pavements, they even have at least one mall with Naivas as anchor tenant where I was able to eat at there cafeteria at 10am ,popular foods like pilau, chicken, mince meat were ready to be served

Halafu haya mazungumzo ya Tanzania Ethiopia yamekwenda for months bila Nairobi kujuwa, wameachawa wanagombana na lapsset project yao. Gazeti lao la The East African hawajaweza kupata headline which favors Kenyan readers.
