Kenya Vice President William Ruto is behind the ban of Maize imports from Tanzania and Uganda.
Last week, Kenya authorities issued a letter banning the importation of Maize from Tanzania and Uganda due to high aflatoxin contamination
The online letter which was against East African Treaty and World Trade Organisation's sparked fully from both Tanzania and Uganda governments.
Addressing the crowd in Kenya yesterday DP Ruto said the ban was reached after Kenya had imported many maize bags beyond financial capacity.
" we had allocated Ksh 5 billion to import 1.5 maize bags, we instead imported 3.7 bags. Our stores are full we cannot go beyond this, said DP Ruto.
DP Ruto has now said the government has allocated another Ksh1.4 billions to buy maize from Kenyan farmers.
He has added that the government will now register farmers to know their size of land and their capacity production so as to make them not produce beyond capacity.
Ruto's revelation comes at the time the Kenyan government has lifted the ban after discovering that unilateral ban was improper and bogus.
