Guys, I tried getting Nilesat with a 90cm dish in Bungoma. I failed miserably. Anything I should try?

I have a 6yr old 90cm dish that has been badly mutilated by the elements and i wanted to give it a new lease of life by painting it.
any tips? eg what type of paint and procedure?.
I'm clueless and googling

Good Afternoon Mwangi57,

The best paint for repainting your satellite dish should be matt which is non shiny.

Avoid glossy or metalic paint as it would reflect sun directly on your lnb which could result to melting of the plastic on the feed horn.

Clean your dish and let it to dry up before you apply your matt paint depending on color choice.

I came across an article on TELE-audiovision 1301, TELE-audiovision International - The World's Largest Digital TV Trade Magazine about Henry Kapitapita from Malawi and his colored Sat Dishes>>

Henry Kapitapita has been a satelliteDXer since 2002.
His home is locatedin the city of Zomba in Malawi’s south-ern region in southeastern Africa.
The country’s slogan is “From the Warm Heart of Africa”. Malawi has roughly 14 million inhabitants and is surrounded by Zambia, Mozambique and Tanzania.

Henry describes to us the first satellite he received.

“That was the PAS 7/10 satellite at 68.5 east which today is called INTELSAT 7/10.”
Henry was always interested in TV reception and when he found out that you could receive TV channels from a distance of 36,000 km (22,300 miles), he simply couldn’t resist.
“I’m very handy and extremely interested in technology”, explains Henry who for many years worked as the IT Manager at the Chancellor College of the Uni-versity of Malawi.

Today he runs his own company: Ashley Media. “We specialize in multimedia production such as radio and TV documentaries, programs and advertisement.
We are also involved in the organization of digital libraries. We scan documents, books as well as audio and picture data for the Internet and also for the Archives.”
Henry bought all of the components for his satellite system from local dealers in the neighboring larger city of Blantyre in southern Malawi.

“I’m always turning my dishes to receive other satellites.

At the moment my white dish is pointed to EUTELSAT W4 from which I can receive the Afro Music Channel and the MGM Channel.
The yellow dish is aligned with NSS5 and lets me receive Malawi’s local pub-lic TV channel: MBC TV.
The red dish is pointed to INTELSAT 7/10 at 68.5 east.
From this satellite I can receive the South African channels SABC 1, 2, 3 God Channel and a number of other FTA channels. ”Henry uses three satellite receivers.
“My favorite channels are the SABC channels and also CCTV News and EBRU TV from EUTELSAT W4.
” Naturally, Henry would like to install more satellite antennas with larger diameters. “I would love to be able to receive the C-band but larger dishes are hard to come by here.

” Henry is already planning for the future:
“As soon as licenses become available, I want to be able to redistribute these TV channels.”
He is also planning to become a programming provider himself: “I’m getting ready to start my own TV and radio channels: Youth Broadcasting Station (Youth TV and Youth FM).
I have nearly the complete studio and transmission equipment ready to go; the only thing missing is the official broadcasting license.”

Until that time comes, Henry keeps himself happy with his colorful dishes and the experience that he has thus far gained:
“I can find any satellite within two minutes.”

HENRY KEEP THE FTA FIRE BURNING

Hi members has anyone locked on the middle east beam on NSS 12 satellite at 57E?If yes what is the dish size required in Nairobi.

hallow kungu1 help me to get the software for my receiver , my receiver model is STAR TRACK HD GALAXY I, Please help me to upgrade my receiver

On my SRT 4922, the channels labelled MBC HD are still encoded, comes up with $ sign, which stays there, but the regular MBC channels, normally in standard definition, are now in HD! - great, wonder how long it will last.

As Ranksat encouraged me to do a while back, and helped by Katiklo's photographs, I also added a second LNB to my 1.35m Nilesat dish to get SES 5, with success. I attach a close up of the swivel bracket to hold and adjust the second LNB that I made from mild steel, with help from my local welder. The combination of Nilesat 201, Eutelsat 7 West A, and SES 5 on one dish makes a pretty powerful and useful set of news and entertainment chanels in the english language, all for free.

Blessed weekend.

Northumberland,
Referring to your swivel bracket, thanks for taking innovation a step higher. Looks impressive.
Have you tried sliding the bracket to receive Amos 5 at 17.0°E? If this works, you could actually have two brackets ….. one for SES5 and another one for Amos5.
Soon I will task my welder to make one similar to yours …. Assuming it is not "patented" yet! I also have a dish like yours for the Nilesats at Nairobi, but I have added two seperate 65Cm dishes: one for SES5 and another for Amos5. I also have a third 65Cm for Intelsat 20 (68.5 East). Goodday.

That was quite impressive of you Northermberland, especially the LNB arm holder that you fabricated. I'll be sharing the same with my pals so I hope your patent fees will be affordable. Cheers!

Hi FTA Nash and all. Interesting idea to try to get Amos5, but I looked at the Channel line up and nothing seemed very appetising for me. Instead I wanted to get Kuwait 2, english language family channel, on Eutelsat 8W. Although I can pick up some of the transponders from that bird on my Nilesat 130 cm dish, I could get no signal from the key transponder for the Kuwait TV bouquet, 11678V. So, I decided to see if I could get that sat and transponder on my 90cm dish - perhaps others have done this and think it is easy. I had to struggle quite a bit, very minute adjustments to elevation and azimuth, but I did finally get a just passable signal for Kuwait Channel 2, watchable, but not when it rains! Using the inverto ultra single that Kungu reviewed earlier.

Hi tblj. I have recently been trying to get good Nilesat reception in Nairobi, and reading Kungu's advice on LNBs etc. It might be useful for me to share my experience with you. I had 'fair' reception of BBC World News (52% quality on an SR 4922) with an Inverto Black Premium LNB. After Kungu's experiment a few days ago, I went out and bought an Inverto Black Ultra single LNB, and the same shop also had a very fancy looking Fuji Gold Ku LNB, described on box as best in world for low noise, weak signals, etc. It was also the most expensive in that shop!. Neither of these two new LNBs performed as well as my Inverto Black Premium twin. The inverto ultra was a bit worse, but the expensive Fuji gold thingy, with an external waveguide, was MUCH worse, in fact I could not get a lock on BBC World with this LNB at all. In conclusion, I have no personal experience with the Samson LNB (and apparently not available in Nairobi at moment), but I can confirm that getting the RIGHT LNB will make all the difference to getting Nilesat channels on a 120 cm dish in East Africa, and my experience suggests that Fuji LNBs are not the right ones!

I have to correct that posting of mine from a couple of weeks ago. I just re-checked the performance of my different spare LNBs this afternoon. I discovered that the Fuji Gold LNB that I referred to in that earlier post is in fact designed ONLY for PRIME FOCUS dishes, it has an external feedhorn. So - correction - I have no idea about the performance of the Prime Focus LNB on a prime focus dish, have not tried, but I can confirm that it certainly does not perform on an offset dish -but then I suppose its manufacturers know this. I will keep the LNB and try it out on a big prime focus dish one day soon.

Hi all ASASes! Haki nyinyi ni wabaya. You left me 2 wallow with boredom alone in the wilderness, na kumbe ur here! wonderful 2 connect again.
