Good Afternoon Monkey13,

Thanks for the awesome update.

This paints a better picture of Badr 5 fringe reception in Kenya.

On the same orbital position 26.0°E, the is also Badr 4 & Badr 6.

In Limuru i get both Badr 5 & 6 on a 2.4 meter offset dish with a total of about 210 tv channels.

The is a high probability of getting Badr 6 using either a 1.2 meter offset or 1.8 meter prime focus dish in Kapenguria.

Try and give us your feed back.

Hi will try with 1.8m.

Is it possible to receive CNN via Nilesat in Nyeri/environs using a 90cm dish?

I think it is possible coz i installed a 90cm for a friend in Kerugoya and i nabbed CNN using Fuji lnb.

This morning i dusted my dreambox 500s as i wanted to stream content to my comp so as not to miss the days live events. The channel that i wanted is citizen on IS 902 tp 3837 L 2466. when i scanned the sat with astrovox 9000hd citizen came up on 3085 h 3099. i then hooked up the DM chose the appropriate sat and put in the correct tp and did a scan. The dm failed to get any cband channel. the message on the dm was "failed to lock onto a valid tp". After cracking my head for some time and failing to get a solution i called a dreambox expert whose solution to the problem amazed and astonished me.
He advised me to use the astrovox to scan 902 cband with a ku satellite and see what will come up, i did as directed and was suprised to see citizen coming up with a ku frequency 11015 h 3099. he then told me to use the ku frequency on the dm and lahaula, i got citizen on the dm and finally to my comp using a tp link router, Enigma web interface-PLI and vlc media player.
The name of the dm expert is good old GKogollah.
let me use this forum to say thank him once again for his valuable information.

Are you suggesting that one can use 11015 h
3099 with a ku band lnb to get Citizen Tv?
Please clarify.

no, thats not what i meant, all you have to do is scan blind scan a cband satellite using a cband lnb but the settings on your box should be on a ku satellite. you will be suprised at the frequencies that will come up.:A S 101:

i may also confirm this but this time tis twane tv

Good Morning all,

Thanks for the update Kanyu & Alphegaz,

Thanks Kungu1 for the LNB clarification,I have managed to lock on one tp 11170V26652 Intelsat 20 SA Beam using 2.4m prime focus dish and Stargold Universal Twin LNB I could nor get the SABC tp and this was my first fringe satellite reception at my location North Western Tanzania.I am planning to track Yahsat West beam but with little hope due to my location.

Good Morning Kibukila,

Congrats on your first Fringe satellite,

Here In Limuru Kenya, i can lock on 18 transponders (frequecies) on Intelsat 20 SA beam>>

99% of the frequencies i am locked on host DSTV SA paytv package.

Dish size 2.4 meter offset plus Inverto Black Quad Lnb.

No lock on the SABC channels on frequency 11674 V 26657 or frequency 11474 V 30000 hosting FTA dast channels.

From my sat investigation, i think the frequencies are still active on Intelsat 7 @ 68.5° East

As Per Real Time Satellite Tracking on N2YO website, Intelsat 7 is still active @ 68.6° East>>>>>>LIVE REAL TIME SATELLITE TRACKING AND PREDICTIONS: INTELSAT 7 (PAS 7)

BTV & GOD TV channels recently migrated from Intelsat 7 SA footprint to Intelsat 20 Sub Sahara Africa footprint, so lets wait for the SABC channels.

what is fringe sat reception and because i can nab yahsat doest it mean i cant lock on the other beam as for 26e i cant lock any tp using a 90cm ofset

Kungu1,long time no see,a fellow member i share ideas with at rdi-sat.my concern now is that the bird nilesat i use to track down with my 10feet solid and fuji lnb at my end in west africa a country called ghana has now vanished becoz of the last update made and the beams changed to MENA and NWA.i can now have NWA but none of MENA beam,i seek your help,
kungu1 come let me have your views about this bird.i use to have about 600 channels but now it only 29 channels.

peace

Good Morning Saayacoolu,

A 10 foot solid dish should give you results, i wish i had one.

The former Atlantic bird 4A satellite (Nilesat 104) was more powerful with no exact defined footprint.

Eutelsat 7 West A footprint is more controlled but equally a powerful satellite.

As per reports on Nairaland, its much easier to get Nilesat 102 in Nigeria than Eutelsat 7 west A or Nilesat 201 since the 2 birds were launched..

First try out a different lnb and preferably KU prime focus lnb to see if you can get Nilesat 102.

Elevate the dish to get rid of any ground noise as this affects fringe receptions especially if your dish is low to the ground or against a wall.

Satellite signal is transmitted in form of sound so any ground noisy would reduce the signal strength.

Happy Hunting and sorry for the late reply.

Good Morning,

One of the more important aspects of satellite reception is the footprint of the satellite broadcasts you wish to receive.

The footprint is the theoretical area covered by each satellite broadcast on the earth.

Fringe reception is the term used to describe the edge of a satellites reception footprint.

Yahsat 1A West fooprint

yah1a_west_world.gif

For example Yahsat 1A Ku west beam satellite seems to have fringe reception heading north from Souther Sudan.

Some factors that govern how deep into a fringe area you can penetrate and still receive the channels you want are most importantly Satellite transmission power, Dish size followed by LNB Specifications (higher gain and lower noise figures), skew angle correctly configured and the receiver performance.

Yahst 1A is more powerful than Arabsat (Badr 4,5 & 6) satellites so better fringe reception in some parts of Kenya

Hi Kungu,

Interesting to see you talk about ground noise, and importance of elevating the dish. I am trying to get strong reception on as many Nilesat 201/Eutelsat W4 channels in Nairobi as possible. I am getting most, but I get rain fade in mildly bad weather, and colleagues on this forum report much stronger signals with same size dish and same decoder. For convenience, and to avoid damage to my roof!, I put the dish on a pole in the ground, the bottom of the dish is only about 3 feet above the soil, could this be a problem? How high should the dish be above the ground to minimise 'ground noise'?

Hi Kungu 1
