  • The Northern Corridor (Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda) One Network Area appears to have collapsed due to discordant tax policies in the region.
  • The project had sought to harmonise roaming charges on voice calls and data charges. Under the arrangement, all calls among EAC countries were to be treated as domestic calls
  • As from October 1st 2018, rates have reverted to pre 2015 levels
Typical Africans. Ina maana before initiating the ONA hawakujua kwamba they need to harmonize their tax policies kwanza? This was clearly a rushed project as evidenced by the fact that they did not even give time to all member states to join (Tanzania and Burundi were left out)
Ona sasa, another addition to the long list of failed CoW projects. EAC single tourism visa FAILED. One Network Area FAILED. What's next?

Shida yako kubwa ni ignorance. Unakimbia kuanza thread bila ata kujua kunani.
There is a timeline for implementing everything. Sometimes deadlines are not met, but that does not mean the end.

With you bongolala, you think things come easy. Are you planning to join when everything works perfectly?
You are either with us during the tough days, or don't join us when it gets good.

You cannot be the ones dragging us forever. In Europe they eliminated visas for EU states. They even removed border points/stops, and driving through EU states is like driving in one single country.
Lakini here, LDC bongolala and your supreme leader cannot let us move forward.

Let COW try. Where we fail, we learn. But we're not stopping to wait for bongolala.

Bruv these negroids don't learn from their mistakes that's why they don't bother try new things or take risks.

Shit, look at their worship of all that is CCM. That explains their psyche as a people

Allegory of the cave syndrome

Negroids? Cave syndrome?
The British really did a good job with you guys. Mentally enslaved fools. Mjikomboe kiakili kwanza alafu mje tuongee!

Can you give a REALLY good reason why this project failed? Was there a good reason to rush? Slow but sure is better than what you guys are doing.
Now look, you are breaking the spirit of regional integration because after this, people will think us incapable of coming up with meaningful sustainable projects.
I bet the reasons for ONAs failure are the same issues that Tanzania and Burundi raised but Kenyans being the much-you-knows that you are mkafanya kulazimisha.

Who said it has failed?
It is merely experiencing hitches. And I'm sure the framework is drawn up, the agreements have been made and the intention is clear.
Experiencing setbacks in implementation is normal for any project. Even sometimes road construction go above the timelines.

And one area has been discussed for close to a decade. If you think that is rushing it, then I doubt you'll ever accomplish anything.

Also, even if they 'waited', hitches would still have emerged.
Implementation hitches are dealt with on the job, not on paper before starting the job.

Try, dare, make a move fail and try again, I hate idiotic cowards that always seats back, hopping and praying for failures of those who dare to try.
Such large scale endeavors don't succeed on a single stroke and file, it's a new thing to all of us, so everything is a trial but we still have to keep going, keep trying, strategizing and restrategizing.... keep on the offensive, just like a football match, you don't sulk after first attempt to score failed, sometimes even a player can pass the ball back to own goalkeeper to allow for a new offensive formation to take place.

There are those of us who trade across border in EAC and can tell for a fact, Tanzania is the biggest impediment in this region, will take may be a century for them to be enlightened and elevated to the mental attitude and aptitude of the other peers, ujamaa damned these people.

Allegory of the cave by Plato and he is Greek not British.

Read something else not just nyerere essays on ujamaa.

Nope. You just don't like Kenya. Or feel threatened by Kenya.
Kenya is our Neighbor but we have fundamental differences from independence, you chose capitalism and we chose socialism, we can't get along Like USA and China, why do you want us to join projects that reflect ideas of capitalism?

Some of it has nothing to do with capitalism or socialism. Just plain stupidity.
Citizens of capitalist or socialist countries wouldn't mind making cheap phone calls.
Citizens wouldn't mind driving from Nairobi to Dar without a border stop.

That mentality of thinking you are always right and others are wrong is what we call it capitalistic way of life, in socialism we do listen concerns of each other even if you don't agree, we care for every one and we are ready to sacrifice of our own for others, that's why we live and stay peacefully with our brothers and sisters in SADC.

Let me tell you the truth, Tanzania and Kenya will never get along, Nyerere was very accommodative person, I am sure you know that, he managed to work with nearly many countries except Kenya and Idd Amin, if Nyerere failed to work with Kenya, who else can work with you?

Tanzania was not left out. You left yourselves out.
Refresh your memory, Tanzania was not invited. Revisit news at the time and you'll know what was being said. Tanzania was deliberately uninvited and to be honest, I think it was best thing happen to us.

I'll just say this, and I know there is longer version to this comment but... Kenya is a country of half baked ideas.

Your not on the same level with EU, your 70yrs behind. Even in EU itself you can see how border less is creating friction and tension between the Western and Eastern European countries. Those countries (east and west Europe) are not equal in team of wealth, human development even their bitter history.

If you want someone to drive from Nairobi to Dar without border check, then make sure you've tighter border controls on your end. Even developed countries they make sure resources are distributed to people who are intended.

EU was created in 1993.
We created the first EAC in 1967.
We've heard a longer time to rethink, improve and perfect.

If you are waiting for countries to have an equal amount of wealth, you will wait forever because the gap between Kenya and Tazania GDP widens every year.
The only way European countries are able to compete in the world today, with big blocks like USA and China is because of the EU.

They have a greater leverage negotiating and protecting themselves from cheap imports. They have a bigger vehicle for their exports.

Right now for individual African countries to trade with other countries, you need individual deals. How is it possible for any African country to make deals individually with almost all other countries on earth?
Even UK is struggling with this post-brexit.

Europe is now Europe's biggest trade partner. In that EU member countries export more to the EU than to the rest of the world.

Here in Africa and particularly East Africa, you hear us boasting of how much Netherlands or Pakistan is our largest trading partner.

Also, in terms of border controls, don't deceive yourself that Tanzania is very desirable for greener pastures. If we were bordering South Africa, I would understand why they don't want open borders.
Open borders work in the UK because the member countries are all rich in the own way. The GDP per capitas may be different, but they are all high.
Here in EAC, they are all low.

The problem is your supreme leader's thinking, similar to Trump's, that all problems arise from immigrants. While the truth is anything but.
USA spends billions fighting terrorism, yet terrorism deaths in the US are almost zero. Gun violence on the other hand claim more than 10,000 lives a year.
You should look within for your troubles. Stop blaming immigrants.

You don't invite a visitor who only comes to insult you and stall progress.
Tanzania uninvited itself by showing zero interest in EAC activities, and even deliberately ensuring we don't move forward.

If it was the era of CIA's espionage, we would speculate that your leaders had been paid to frustrate African unity and development. They've been paid to ensure we remain poor.
