==============

East African Finance ministers present their national budgets in their respective parliaments for the fiscal year 2021/22 today.

According to the East Africa Community (EAC) Treaty, partner states are required to read their budgets simultaneously.

But only the three founding member states – Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania – read their budgets today.

Burundi whose financial calendar begins in January and South Sudan were both given time by the EAC Council of Ministers to adjust the reading of their budgets in harmony with the rest of the partner states.

Rwanda did not give reason for delaying the budget reading.

Uganda's $12.61 billion (Ush44.7 trillion) Budget is being presented by Mr Amos Lugoloobi, the newly appointed Minister of State for Planning.

In Tanzania, the $15.59 billion (Tsh36.32 trillion) Budget will be read by the new Minister of Finance and Planning Dr Mwigulu Nchemba.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani will lay out the $33.3 billion (Ksh3.6 trillion) budget which is expected to cement the legacy of Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta 10 years in office in a tough economic setting clouded with depressed corporate and household earnings amid uncertainties arising from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ccm ni maneno matupu

What neophytes like you don't understand is that that debt you are crying about is actually used to finance infrastructural development. So instead of focussing your attention on the $6 billion development expenditure, you should have asked yourself how many projects that $12 billion annual debt repayment has financed.
..... and can't be paid. Instead, you rollover and pay just half a billion in interest.
So much for the coming generation.
But hey!, y'all got a bigger budget than the rest of EAC combined!
Mmmhhh! ... I wonder!

I can mention more than 10 major projects that were financed by that debt. Keep on hating.

Lagos State Budget 2021: Rekindling Hope, Riding Expectations

At a media briefing held on Thursday, January 14, 2020, the Lagos State Government gave a breakdown of its 2021 budget which it called a 'Budget of Rekindled Hope'. The heart of the budget leveraged its THEMES agenda that encapsulated the broad socioeconomic goals of the administration.

A review of the government's 2021 plan showed a mixture of audacity, brilliance, and a dash of hubris. The budget deficit finance plan shows the government's preparedness to take on more debt in 2021, this may not have been unexpected. The state's huge infrastructure gaps and social security needs explain the charge towards larger debt commitments, the state's debt service ratio is expected to rise from roughly 19% in 2020 to about 22% in 2021. Nevertheless, the broad sweep of the budget points to capital expenditure aimed at improving the quality of citizen's lives with a capital to recurrent expenditure ratio of 60% to 40%.

The budget put under a analytical microscope appears as below:

Lagos in a Snapshot
Lagos is Nigeria's most densely populated state with a landmass of 3,577 square kilometres and an estimated population of 14.86m people (United Nation's projections for 2021).

However, the state remains the most commercially vibrant and economically sustainable state in the federation. The state generates the country's largest value-added tax (VAT) revenue with a total revenue of N96.26bn between January and October 2020. The state's total internally generated revenue (IGR) was N204.51bn as of H1 (i.e., January to June) 2020. Its federation account allocation committee (FAAC) revenue was N149.89bn as of October 2020. Available data shows that the state depends more on its internal revenue sources than its federal allocations which points to strong internal fiscal stability and higher thresholds for fiscal shocks. A snapshot of the state's finances (see Illustration 2 below) tells a compelling story of fiscal strength, diversity, and resilience.

Kenya ni nchi ya ajabu ujue hivyo., the only non-mineral economy in the top 10 best economies of Africa, third largest in sub saharan Africa.., what if we start using the little minerals we have? Uhuru's govt was finalizing on geological mapping of minerals in the country, Lamu offshore is a guaranteed oil rich area., but fortunately kenya haipigi hesabu kwa kuangalia minerals, sijaona anywhere that, ni maoni yangu tu., but Kenya is working at bolstering industrialization and strengthening the counties.., it is possible bro.
