The IDF says it has hit a Hezbollah "command centre" in Lebanon in retaliation for strikes towards Israeli territory.

An Israeli fighter jet carried out the strike in the town of Blida in Lebanon.

"Earlier today, numerous launches were identified from Lebanon towards Israeli territory," the IDF said in a post on Telegram.

"The IDF struck the sources of the fire.

"Earlier today, an IAF fighter jet struck a Hezbollah command centre in the area of the town of Blida.

"Since this morning, IDF tanks and artillery have struck in several areas of Lebanon."

It comes amid rising tension between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah, which controls a chunk of southern Lebanon along its border with Israel.

Hezbollah has blamed Israel for a recent strike on Lebanon's capital, Beirut, in which a senior Hamas leader was killed, though Israel has not confirmed any involvement.

The office for Benjamin Netanyahu released a statement saying the release of 620 Palestinian prisoners is being "postponed" due to "repeated and ongoing violations by Hamas", including the "disgraceful ceremonies that dishonour the dignity of our abductees".
