The rattled and timid president has reportedly ordered the aviation authority to deny the permit to the helicopter that was to be used by an opposition party presidential candidate to attend campaign rallies in the Coast Region.

This is one of a series of harsh measures that the government of president John Magufuli has adopted to try to ensure he is curtailing the effort of the opposition presidential candidate, his closest rival, Mr. Tundu Lissu from reaching the electorate.

Magufuli who is seeking a second and his last term in office is likely facing the stiffest challenge to his incumbency probably more than he faced five years ago when he first won the polls by the modest 58%.

Towards the October 28 elections, the opposition parties are already crying foul claiming that a handful of their parliamentary and civic candidates have unjustly been disqualified by the National Electoral Commission (NEC) Returning Officers ostensibly on the orders from the president who also controls the electoral body.
