ati Tanzania haina Level 3 research facility unaumwa mavi wewe!

Interventions and Clinical Trials
In Ifakara, Rufiji and Bagamoyo, IHI has developed platforms for surveillance, implementation science studies and clinical trials covering district hospitals and satellite clinics, providing the basis for Phase 2 and 3 clinical trials and pharmaco-vigilance. A new centre for clinical trials at Kingani area in Bagamoyo District was opened in 2012, and has already performed a bio-equivalence study and a malaria challenge study using fully infectious purified sporozoites.

Our clinical trial facilities in Bagamoyo and Ifakara are supported by laboratory capabilities in parasitology, haematology, biochemistry, immunology, molecular biology and a bio-safety level 3 laboratories for bacteriology and virology.

We are also providing technical support in other countries to start and implement clinical trials. For example, we currently have a group based in Equatorial Guinea supporting large-scale vaccine trial programs there.

How Apopo Rats Would Be Used In Diagnosing TB
Posted By: Faith Mwema 0 Comment
Scientists in Tanzania Dar Er Salaam successfully trained rats to detect tuberculosis (TB) in human saliva by smell, using techniques first developed to teach the animals to find landmines.
The project was carried out at the Sokoine University of Agriculture in Morogoro. Researchers found that while a laboratory technician, using a microscope, can analyse only 20 samples of saliva a day, a trained rat can analyse about 120 to 150 samples in just 30 minutes.
When a rat detects TB, it indicates its presence by keeping its nose in there for three seconds. Their correct indications on known positive samples are rewarded with a food treat.
Millions of people worldwide suffer from TB, says the project director, Bart Weetjens. To them and their relatives, this [discovery] is very good news, and we have started to receive calls from all over the world.
According to the World Health Organization, worldwide deaths from tuberculosis are expected to increase from 2 million this year to 8 million by 2015. The situation has been exacerbated by the close association between TB and HIV/AIDS.
Weetjens points out that since about 40 per cent of the 60,000 Tanzanians suffering from TB are HIV-positive, detecting TB at an earlier stage raises the chance of securing effective treatment for both diseases.

Tanzania launches Africa's first radiochemistry lab
Source: Xinhua| 2019-04-29 23:30:53|Editor: huaxia

ARUSHA, Tanzania, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania on Monday launched Africa's first fully fledged Radio-chemistry Analysis Laboratory at the country's Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC), located in the northern safari capital of Arusha.
The new state-of-the-art radiochemistry laboratory facility at TAEC was built at a cost of 4.3 million U.S. dollars.

"The country is at the forefront in reinforcing strict control in mining, handling and the transportation of Radioactive Materials and the establishment of this laboratory facility is yet another indication of this commitment," said Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa shortly after inaugurating the facility.

He advised the TAEC to build nuclear reactors so that the country can be ready to make use of its abundant uranium deposits by converting them to energy.

"So far the Mkuju River Uranium Development Project itself has nearly 59,000 tons of uranium deposits, among the highest in Africa," said Majaliwa.

The prime minister said Tanzania targets new dimension in large scale uranium mining, with significant deposits being identified in various parts of the country, including Mbulu and Simanjiro Districts of Manyara, Rural parts of Songea in Ruvuma Region, Minjingu, Arusha as well as Namtumbo, Madama and Lindi, along the Southern Coast peninsular.

In line with that, more than 25 companies are conducting exploration of the uranium in different areas of Tanzania and these explorations are based on the already radiometric surveys conducted in over 40 years ago that pointed to uranium enrichment in various places in the country, that is why the state is establishing complementing facilities.

The newly inaugurated Radio-chemistry Analysis Laboratory is already equipped with various modern and technological paraphernalia valued at more than 3.2 million U.S. dollars donated to Tanzania by the European Union (EU).

With such a facility in place, Tanzania through TAEC is now in a position to conduct radioactive tests from all neighboring countries, such as Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia and Malawi, where such services are not available.

Na vipi mbona WHO haija recognize any of these facilities?

Yani hata test ya ebola tu,WHO ilikua inawaambia mtume hizo samples Kenya ambako kuna WHO accreditade facility, hapa hatuongelei research, tunangelea kupima tu! hizo BSL3 zenu zilikua wapi??

Global health officials asked Tanzania to share the results of its investigations but Health Minister Ummy Mwalimu asserts there is no need to submit a “negative sample” for further testing.
Countries with little or no experience testing for Ebola are asked to send samples to a WHO-accredited lab.

I showed u three biosafety level III labs in Tanzania at Ifakara Health Institute (IHI), Kilimanjaro Clinical Research center (KCRInstitute) n National Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) u showed me one at KEMRI in the whole of Kunyaland!

I went further to show u Africa's first fully fledged Radio-chemistry Analysis Laboratory is at the country's Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC) in Arusha!

Now as a matter of fact Sokoine University of Agriculture has another Biosafety level III lab as a headquarter of Southern Africa center of Infectious Diseases ( SACIDS)!

BTW that Africa Center of Infectious Diseases u brag about is to be established under SACIDS!
