Barca to contest Abidal red card
Abidal was sent off for an alleged trip on Nicolas Anelka
Barcelona will appeal against the bans which are set to keep defenders Eric Abidal and Dani Alves out of the Champions League final. Abidal was sent off for a trip on Nicolas Anelka in the semi-final against Chelsea last week.
And Alves picked up a yellow card for a challenge on Ashley Cole, his second booking of the knockout stages.
"Of course we'll appeal the cards for Abidal and Alves out of respect for them," said Barca coach Pep Guardiola.
The performance of referee Tom Henning Ovrebo at Stamford Bridge has come in for huge criticism, but there is no formal procedure at Uefa for overturning refereeing decisions.
Barca will face Manchester United in the Champions League final in Rome on 27 May, and the defending champions are also attempting to get a red card ruled out.
United midfielder Darren
Fletcher was sent off in his side's semi-final, second leg against Arsenal.
Fletcher was dismissed following a challenge on Cesc Fabregas inside the area in which he appeared to get a touch of the ball, and Guardiola believes the Scotland midfielder should also be allowed to play.
But United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted he is not optimistic about the chances of Uefa allowing Fletcher to play in the final.
