kitabu cha Abdul Sykes:
''...many scholars before and after have either by omission or
commission ignored the Islamic factor in the political development
of colonial Tanganyika; beginning with Maji Maji War in 1905
during the German period, the labour movement in the late 1930s
and the struggle in 1950s during British colonialism...''

Mohamed Said anaendelea katika kitabu hicho:
''...when the Maji Maji War began in 1905 to try to oust Germans from
Tanganyika, the predominantly Christian areas in the south refused
to join the movement and actually fought alongside German forces
against the patriots.

This was because the uprising had begun in Muslim dominated areas
and had within it Muslim characteristics. Missionaries, being collaborators,
were taken as legitimate targets by Maji Maji fighters. As a result, African
Christians saw Maji Maji War as an uprising against Christianity. Maji Maji
movement was defeated and Germans committed atrocities against the
people and their leaders. This left a big scar in the minds of Muslims in
the south and the people in general, and hence the apolitical behaviour
of Christians in the south.''

I am also sending you a flask of the Prophet Muhammad, which contains the means for conquering the Europeans. Have no doubt about it, it possessed great power. And when we have taken the Boma (Songea), we shall go on the stations on the Nyasa together, you and I. Now, let us forget our old quarrels.

This bottle, with a da’wa, has been sent by Chinyalanyala himself, the war leader. He also sends the container (kombe), and sends you many greetings.

If your men will come, then Chinyalanyala himself will come and will give you many of the holy things.

Mwaka uliofuata 1954 ndio tuka, kwa kweli mimi nilidhani tutachukua katiba tu wenzangu wakasema hapana, tukibadili katiba tubadili na jina

Tukahaingaika sana kupata jina na hao hao kina Abdul Sykes, jina lile hatukuligundua. Wao walikuwa wamelifikiria zamani wakina Abdul Sykes
hao. Walikuwa Burma alikuwa askari na kule waliwahi kufikiria
kuanzisha chama...

Kwa hiyo wakati tunahangaika hangaika pale tuchukuwe jina gani tuchukue Tanganyika African Union wakasema hali itafanana na Kenya African Union. Watadhani nao ni Maumau. Tunataka kuanzisha Maumau yetu. Ndio wakina Abdul Sykes wakakumbuka jina lao walilokuwa wameliunda walipokuwa Burma, wakasema tuite Tanganyika African

Kwa hiyo inabidi usiite historia ya ukweli ya Tanganyika kwasababu na wewe umefanya kosa lile lile ambalo unasema watu wa Kivukoni walifanya.

Labda utakuwa sahihi kama unaandika historia ya dini katika Tanganyika wakati wa ukoloni.

Historia ya nchi yenye watu wa aina mbalimbali, dini nyingi, makabila mengi unawezaje kuandika historia kwa mlengo wa dini halafu useme ndio historia ya kweli ya uhuru wa Tanganyika!?

Hakuna anayekataa kwamba hao wazee wa kiislam walishiriki harakati za ukombozi wa Taifa letu japo kweli nikili (na nimeshakufahisha hilo) kwa mara ya kwa niliwafahamu nikiwa chuo kikuu kutoka kwa Dr. Mkanachi! Lakini badala ya wewe kufanya marekebisho, umefanya yale yale tena huenda wewe umefanya kosa kubwa sana kwa kuandika "story" zako kwa mtazamo wa dini zaidi.

Kuna wapigania uhuru wengi sana walikuwepo, wenye itikadi tofauti tofauti za kidini, kuna waliokuwa na dini na wasio na dini. Kwanini uegemee dini flani!?

Je, akija mwingine akaegemea wasio na dini au dini tofauti na uliyoegemea wewe!? Nini kitatokea kwa hao wafuasi wenu!? Watoto wa dini hizo tofauti washike ipi na waache ipi!?

Ndio maana nasisitiza kusema na uendelee kulifahamu kwamba, mashabiki wako wataendelea kubaki wa itikadi yako kitu ambacho hatakuwa umeisaidia Jamii!! Hilo ni kosa kubwa sana ambalo hutakiwi kuendelea kulihubiri kwa nguvu zote kama unavyofanya.
