I am not good in statistics. However, there is a theory out there that states that when the sample taken in the poll is about 1024, the poll should be very close to certainity. So far the number of people who have participated in this poll is well above 1024, and the candidate who has accumulated the most votes here is not going to win. Therefore my conclusion is this; this board is heavily biased and does not reflect the will of Tanzanian people.
Why do you put Dr. Slaa at the helm of this poll when you know for sure that the guy can't even win a single district with a convincing margin? Do not get me wrong. But it is quite clear that the participation of opposition parties in presidential elections warrants nothing. This is because the imitation of democracy in Tanzania has not helped the country. So the best way is to stop pretending and try to fix the real problem.
This election is not for Tanzanians people, you know better that. As a matter of fact democracy in Tanzania was design as a showcase for donor countries because they wanted to channel foreign handouts (foreign aid) though elected officials. In the past democracy was not the precursor of foreign aid. Rich countries gave aid to anybody who was willing to advance their interests. They gave aid to Mobutu, Banda, Idd Amin, Bokassa and dictators. They financially backed up dysfunctional policies such as Ujamaa in Tanzania and Humanism in Zambia. They spent billions of money in five decades, but the African continent is still poor.
Surprisingly, about 10 years ago, it came to their sensors that Africans need good governance, freedom to choose and trade, and above all democracy in order to get out of the abyss of social and economic backwardness. Nonetheless, they have continued to repeat the same mistakes. They want Africans to imitate their form of democracy which is based on fighting for ideologies. However, in Tanzania stakes are not delineated by ideological orientation. For example, in Tanzania, it true that there is a small group of intelligentsia who understand very well the theories of capitalism and socialism. However, their experiences are limited to class room attendance or observation of other cultures. They cannot point out a simple example from their own culture or work environment.
In politics you cannot apply theories upon imaginary scenarios. Our political pluralism is false because stakes that define Western political and social spectrum do not exist or are not matured enough.
For example, today CCM pretend to be the gatekeeper of socialism ideas in Tanzania. But how could you follow socialism when the best thing you know is to beg for foreign aid.
Now back to the topic. I can attest that Dr. Slaa or for that matter Pr. Lipumba are presidential Materials. Nonetheless, the outcomes of presidential elections and other type of elections in Tanzania are not decided on the substance of the candidates. Rather it is the loopholes and our own deficiencies which elect the president, the president of SMZ, MPs and perhaps your lazy diwani. We know these loopholes and deficiencies, but why don't we rectify them before we vote?
For example, Simba or Yanga supporters will not consciously offer their opponents competitive advantages. They would rather boycott a match than face bragging right humiliations. Therefore, I dont see a point for this poll and this election when we clearly know that CCM has created favorable environment to win.
