The invasion of Anjouan (code-namedOperation Democracy in Comoros),[5][6] on March 25, 2008, was an amphibious assaultled by the Comoros, backed by African Union(AU) forces, including troops from Sudan,Tanzania, Senegal, along with logistical support from Libya and France. The objective of the invasion was to topple ColonelMohamed Bacar's leadership in Anjouan, an island part of the Union of Comoros, when he refused to step down after a disputed 2007 election, in defiance of the federal government and the AU. The Comoros archipelago in the Indian Ocean has had a fractious history since independence from France in 1975, experiencing more than 20 coups or attempted coups.[7]

The invasion occurred on the early morning of March 25, 2008. The main towns were quickly overrun and the island was declared under the control of the invading forces the same day. Mohamed Bacar managed to escape toMayotte on March 26 and requested political asylum. He was subsequently held in custody there by the French administration and brought to the island of Réunion. On May 15, France rejected Bacar's request for asylum but the French refugee office ruled that the ousted leader could not be extradited to the Comoros because of the risk of persecution.[

FRANCE,.......hahaha.... You were offered a lift to comoros by france..... But I've to congratulate wabongo for destroying amin... ....though i usually ask my self why Kenya failed to join the war to oust amin dada...... We could have been more united as eastafricans then we went into somali and this time round tanzania did not join as in this just war against terrorism.....tanzania should be in Somali of all countries fighting along as kenyans and ugandans......thats how nations create bonds...........

East africa is safer with a peaceful somalia.... Remember the 1997 bombings of both Tanzania and nairobi were able to take place because of the failed systems in somali.......... if this terrorist are able to influence mombasa the same thing will happen to Zanzibar......as they say terror is like cancer once one region is infected it is only a matter of time before the rest is infected or affected.
