75 Al-Shabab Insurgents Killed by Kenyan Forces in Lower Juba
Kenyan military in Somalia killed on Tuesday, 75 Al-Shabab fighters in lower Juba region of Somalia and captured four strategic towns controlled by Al-Shabab militants in an operation against the group.
Al-Shabab deported fighters near Af-madow town which is experiencing another mobilization and deployment from Transitional Federal Govermnet (TFG) forces supported by Kenyan military units and combatants from Ras Kamboni Brigade, according to residents in Af-madow town, 620 Kilometers south of Somalia's war torn capital- Mogadishu.
Tabto and Qoqani towns were the frontlines of Tuesday's battle.
Kenyan troops are using warplanes, tanks and heavy weapons in these areas according to residents.
Jeff Nyaga, commander of Kenya's military against Al-Shabab confirmed the death of 75 insurgents. He said the towns recovered are now administered by the Somali government.
On Tuesday, Kenyan delegation in Mogadishu said they have reached an agreement of cooperation with Somalia's government.
"The two sides agreed to jointly work together in dealing with Al-Shabab's danger in the region. We have agreed to work together in areas of politics, military, economy and other areas." Said Husein Arab Esse , Somalia's defense minister.
Kenyan defense minister denied the presence of Kenyan troops in Somalia.
"
There are no Kenyan troops entered in Somalia. It is only TFG trained soldiers in Kenya are fighting with Al-Shabab" said Kenya's defense minister.
"Al-Shabab now came to Kenya's border with Somalia and Kenya has the right to fight with them" he added.
On Tuesday, Kenyan troops supported by helicopters and tanks entered 100 Km in Somalia, in an attempt to fight Al-Shabab insurgents who are accused of the kidnapping of two humanitarian aid workers from Spain.
