Somalia's security agency on Monday displayed more than 50 al-Shabaab fighters, mainly youths between 18 and 20 years old, who surrendered to Somali forces in Mogadishu.

Ibrahim Omar Aden, the spokesman of Somali security agency (CID), confirmed the young men surrendered to the government within the last three days and that they will be taken to a rehabilitation center.

"In the last three days we have received 51 young boys who were al-Shabaab fighters. We welcomed them with open arms because they are our generation," Ibrami said.

The fighters complained of lack of food and forced marriages during their time with the Islamic militants.

"We belonged to al-Shabaab for three years. I joined in 2008 as part of the the particular group of assassination (Amniyad). I operated in many parts of the country, but recently I was in Mogadishu," said Mohamed Ali Id, one of the youths who surrendered."

"We decided to give up because we have experienced many problems. Our leaders of al-Shabaab want us each to marry at least four women. Also, we didn't get any food when we were at the frontlines," he added.

This is the largest number of al-Shabaab fighters to surrender to the Somali government within a week.

Kenyan Government is confused about who to support in Azania state of Sourthern Somalia[/h]Kenyan Government is confused about who to support in Azania state of Sourthern Somalia

Since Azanian Government moved from Kenya where its established to southern somalia there had been political dis agreement between Azanian president Gandi and Ahmed madowe.

Ahmed madoobe has no political objectives and long term plan solutions. He has been one time in Ethiopia,Kenya and even with somali Governments and some time sides with the diffrent islamic movements in lower juba.He could not bring a solution to the people of Lower Juba but always work hard on his personal intrest.

Azanian president :
The president of Azania Prof. Mohammed Abdi Gandi who is a well educated man had came up with a well organised system of Government called Azania supported by international community, the neighbouring kenya and the residents of Azania. The new Azania Government had started working effectively at lower juba and Gedo region . Ahemd madoobe had felt jelious about this well established Government of Azania and started opposing and sending propaganda Message so that he dismiss the objective of Azania state Governments.

Kenyan Defence minister:
Kenya is reportedly interested in helping develop the new regional administration so as to establish a buffer zone between it and the Islamist insurgency in southern Somalia. However, neighboring Ethiopia is reportedly unhappy about the Azania Initiative and Kenya's involvement in it, as it fears that the project will have an effect on its own military struggle against rebels in the Somali-inhabited Ogaden region, who seek independence.

The Ethiopian Government is arming Ahmed Madoobe since they dont wanted stability in southern Somalia and they believe that Ahmed madoobe can fight with islamist but will not bring immediate change since he has no political stand. The Kenyan Government is confused of whom to suport and are both arming Azanian government and Ahmed madowe so that Alshabaab is defeated but will Ahmed madowe fullfill the kenyan intrest?

After the Ijara news infestigated all of the above mensioned issues, It Apeals kenyan Government to come-up with a strong policy to support The Azanian state government so that Alshabaab is defeated and kenyan borders remained secured from Alshabaab Threats.

The conflicting signals from Somalia further complicate our position. Only an unequivocal statement form Somalia requesting the assistance of Kenya in eradicating the Al-Shabaab menace will do.

It must be remembered that when Ethiopian forces crushed the Union of Islamic Courts in Somalia, the same was upon an express request by Somalia.

If no formal request is forthcoming from Somalia,........
They crushed Islamic Courts then but the very same man, Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed , who led The Union of Islamic Courts is the current President of (Mogadishu) Somalia.

Alleged Eritrean plane carrying arms for Al-Shabaab lands in Baidoa, Bay region

An alleged Eritrean plane carrying weapons and other military supplies for Al-Shabaab rebel group in Somalia has landed at Baidoa airstrip on Sunday, reports say. Rebel fighters sealed off the area around the landing site. Heavily armed rebel fighters were also seen patrolling along major roads leading to the airstrip.

It is not clearly known the where the plane came from, but reliable sources say it was an Eritrean plane carrying shipment of military supplies for Al-Shabaab.

The shipment comes a time the militia is locked in fighting with Kenyan troops who crossed the border two weeks ago in pursuit of rebel fighters accused of abducting foreigners from Kenyan territory.

In July this year, the United Nations has accused Eritrea for government of plotting an attack on African Union summit in Ethiopia in January this year and bankrolling Al-Qaeda-inspired Al-Shabaab militia in Somalia through its embassy in Kenya.

The report by a United Nations Monitoring Group on Somalia and Eritrea said the Red Sea state’s intelligence personnel were active in Uganda, South Sudan, Kenya and Somalia, and that the country’s actions posed a threat to security and peace in the region, Reuters news agency has reported.

Asmara has repeatedly denied any involvement in funding rebel groups in the region.

The U.N. has earlier slapped an arms embargo on the Red Sea state, as well as a travel ban and an assets freeze on Eritrean political and military leaders who it says are violating an arms embargo on Somalia.

Kenya to Probe Deaths of Civilians in Somalia

NAIROBI, Kenya November 1, 2011 (AP)
Kenya's prime minister says that investigations will be carried out if there have been any civilian deaths stemming from Kenya's military incursion into Somalia.

Raila Odinga said Tuesday that any civilian loss of life in Kenya's pursuit of al-Qaida-linked Somali insurgents would be regrettable.

Odinga's remarks came a day after an international medical group said five Somalis in a camp for internal refugees died from an air attack. The Kenyan military acknowledged carrying out an attack but blamed militants for the deaths.

Kenya sent hundreds of the troops to Somalia in mid-October in pursuit of al-Shabab militants it blames for a string of kidnappings in Kenya.

NAIROBI (AlertNet) – Kenya police have recovered four AK47 assault rifles, 16 magazines and 477 bullets in Dadaab refugee camp, which they believe have been used to hijack humanitarian workers, The Star newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Many aid agencies have pulled out of Dadaab, the world’s largest refugee camp, following the kidnapping of two Spanish employees of medical charity Medecins sans Frontieres on Oct. 13.

In September, a Kenyan driver working for Care International was also kidnapped in the camp, which hosts 463,642 refugees, predominantly Somali. One refugee and one Somali were arrested after a police sting operation, the newspaper said.

“The district commissioner and his officers acting on a tip-off from members of the public disguised themselves as potential customers to purchase the firearms from the arrested gunrunners who are believed to be ring leaders of firearm trade in the region from within the camps,” James Ole Serian, provincial commissioner for North Eastern Province, told The Star.

“Our officers met the culprits on Friday last week on a deal to purchase AK 47 assault rifles at the price of 30,000 (Kenya) shillings ($300) and made a down payment of Sh 15,000 before they returned on Sunday to arrest the suspects who were waiting for them for the final payment.”

Kenya warns - attacks on 10 Somali towns
2011-11-01 22:09

Nairobi - Kenya's military warned the residents of 10 towns in Somalia on Tuesday, including the port city of Kismayu, Baidoa and Afgoye near the capital Mogadishu, that they "will be under attack continuously".

Kenyan military spokesperson Emmanuel Chirchir said on his Twitter account that anyone with relatives and friends in the towns listed should be advised accordingly. Chirchir did not answer phone calls from Reuters seeking further comment.

Kenya sent troops into Somalia in mid-October in pursuit of the Somali militants it blames for a series of kidnappings on Kenyan soil and frequent assaults on its security forces along its northern border with the Horn of Africa nation.

The fact the towns listed include places beyond the southern part of Somalia where Kenyan troops are advancing suggests the east African country may step up airstrikes on areas where al-Shabaab rebels have strongholds.

The main objective of Kenyan ground forces is to seize the southern port of Kismayu, as this is a key al-Shabaab stronghold and an important source of funding for the al-Qaeda-linked militants, and to dismantle the rebel network.

"Operation Linda Nchi is on course, advance to Kismayu is on schedule,"
Chirchir said.

The Kenyan operation is called Linda Nchi, which means "Protect the Nation" in the Swahili language.

Other towns listed by the Kenyan Defence Forces spokesperson included Buale, Afmadow, Baar Dheere, Dinsoor and Jilib, the place hit by a Kenyan airstrike on Sunday.

MINNEAPOLIS - The FBI is testing the remains of a suicide bomber in Somalia to try to determine whether he was one of at least 21 young Somali-American men believed to have left Minneapolis in recent years to join the terrorist group al-Shabab.

If the remains are confirmed to belong to Abdisalan Hussein Ali, it will mark the third time someone from Minnesota has been involved in a suicide attack in Somalia.

"I don't understand," said Nimco Ahmed, a Somali community activist in Minnesota, home to the nation's largest Somali population. "It's really, really painful to actually see one of the kids who has a bright future ahead of them do this. ... It's a loss for our whole society."

Al-Shabab said over the weekend that Abdisalan Taqabalahullaah, whom they identified as a Somali-American, carried out the suicide attack Saturday against an African Union base in Mogadishu. The attack killed 10 people, including the two suicide bombers, a Mogadishu-based security official said.

The militia group posted online a recording purported to be Taqabalahullaah, calling on others to carry out a jihad. Omar Jamal, first secretary of the Somali mission to the United Nations, said friends of Abdisalan Hussein Ali listened to the recording and identified the voice as Ali's.

al-Shabab militants attack Kenyan army convoy

Somalia's transitional government has said its forces, backed by Kenyan troops, have repulsed an attack by Islamist al-Shabab insurgents. A Somali military spokesman told the BBC that they killed 36 insurgents in a counter-attack in the south.

But an al-Shabab commander said the militia had destroyed Kenyan military trucks and inflicted heavy casualties.

Kenya sent troops into Somalia last month to pursue militants it accuses of kidnapping foreigners on Kenyan soil.

Al-Shabab, which is in control of most of southern Somalia, denies the allegations. An al-Shabab regional commander Sheik Mohamed Ibrahim said a Kenyan military convoy had been ambushed on the road from the border town of Liboi to Kenyan forward troop positions inside Somalia.

"The mujahideen fighters destroyed several of the military trucks in the convoy," Mr Ibrahim said.

Kenya's military spokesman, Maj Emmanuel Chirchir, confirmed that there had been a firefight between Kenyan forces and four suspected al-Shabab militants.

He said the convoy had challenged the gunmen to stop walking, at which point they opened fire.

Eritrea denies sending arms to Somali rebels

* Eritrea says accusations are baseless
* Weapons cache prompts Kenya to warn of air strikes on rebel bastions (Adds details)

NAIROBI, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Eritrea denied media reports on Wednesday that said it had delivered weapons in the past few days to al Shabaab rebels who are fighting Kenyan troops in the south of Somalia.

The United Nations has accused the Red Sea state of posing a threat to the East African region, partly by bankrolling Somalia's Islamist militants whom Kenya has blamed for a string of kidnappings of Westerners on its soil.

Media reports in Kenya and Somalia claimed Eritrea had sent two aircraft with weapons to help the al Qaeda-linked rebels.

"The government of Eritrea states categorically that these accusations are pure fabrications and outright lies as Eritrea has not sent any arms to Somalia," Eritrea's foreign ministry said in a rare statement.

"Tuesday's baseless accusations are the latest product of a misinformation campaign orchestrated to undermine Eritrea and frustrate its constructive regional and international engagement, it said. Eritrea rarely comments on its policies.

A Kenyan military spokesman told Reuters on Tuesday two consignments of arms had been flown into central Somalia, but declined to speculate where the cache had come from.

Army spokesman Emmanuel Chirchir said Kenya was tracking the arms caches and would strike any rebel bases where the arms were delivered, naming ten rebel bastions on Kenya's hit-list.

Eritrea said arch-foe Ethiopia, which routinely accuses Asmara of supporting rebels, as being behind the allegations.

Is Kenya "twitterizing" the war?

Kenyan military live-tweets attacks in Somalia

From: @MajorEChirchir

In what may be a social media first, Kenya's Ministry of State for Defence tweeted advance warnings of attacks and regular operation updates in Somalia throughout November 1 and November 2. Military spokesman Major Emmanuel Chirchir used an official government Twitter account @MajorEChirchir to warn 10 towns across Somalia that they would be "under attack continuously". Chirchir said two consignments of weapons were flown into Baidoa, 170 miles north-west of Mogadishu, on October 31 and November 1, prompting #OperationLindaNchi.

On November 2, Chirchir dealt with numerous media requests via twitter, confirmed to the media the military had warned people of "continuous imminent attacks on specific towns on twitter" and also took time out to "salute Kenyan media and social media users, you are doing this country a great favour in #operationlindanchi both in critic and opinion". The military spokesman also tweeted the next step in the operation:

Kenya says Al-Shabab getting more arms; Eritrean denial

Posted on November 3, 2011 by somervilleafricajournalism
Daily Nation/allAfrica

A third shipment of arms has been made to Al-Shabaab, the Somali terror group that Kenyan troops are fighting, military spokesman Major Emmanuel Chirchir has said.

"We can positively confirm that another aircraft with weapons has landed in Somalia," he said.

The arms are believed to have originated from Eritrea, which the United Nations and the international community has accused of arming the militants.
The weapons delivered are for retaliatory attacks against Kenyan troops. The military has announced that it will launch airstrikes to destroy them.

"We are concentrating on how to disarm the enemy," Maj Chirchir was quoted by AFP as saying.

Eritrea, which seceded from Ethiopia and has fought a war against it, has supported Somali groups that are opposed to Ethiopia.
