My heart goest out to the families of the deceased and the entire country of kenya. Allow me to change the topic for a minute, I have read somewhere that the helicopter, which crashed, was manufactured in EU and assembled in Kenya by Kenya's police force. I would like to know if there is any truth to that story.

The Chopper was flown from South Africa where it was assembled. It is four months old.

Assemble of any equipment is not space-rocket science. Because the seller has a reputation to maintain so as to safeguard their Market-segmentation, Assembly anywhere in the world is no different from Assembly in the Home of the equipment being assemble. Wewe wacha kufikiria ya kwamba sis wa-africa hatuwezi jambo kidogo kama hili ambala kila mwingine yoyote anaweza kwa-urahisi.

Kenya Defense Force Engineers are at this present time assembling, ''somewhere'' in Kenya, for the KDF-Air Cavalry, the Mi-28N Helicopter Gunship. A number are already commissioned. Lets have faith in ourselves.

Delta4,

Based on the article that I have read, the chopper was manufactured in South Africa but assembled in Kenya. It is important for people to put emotions aside and analyze this issue critically; in order, to learn from this tragedy and to stop similar kind of accidents from re-occuring.

Frankly speaking, it is unbecoming for a four months old chopper to fall down that easily. And to make the matter even worse, it caught fire before plummeting. That tells you that there was something profoundly wrong with the aforementioned machine. It could either be electrical or mechanical...That was a reason I asked who assembled this chopper? If the answer is Kenya, was is it still under warranty?

plane was assembled in SA, took the snake journey to tanzania and finally Kenya. Various media outlets have verified the above statement including Daily nation. All the same, some crafts have been assembled in Kenya and tested before given the green light and yes they have warranties to be specific Military hardware/KWS copters. Special teams from parent companies (PC) in collaboration with local engineers and technicians ensure that assembly is upto task and to the specifications of the ambassador special teams (PC). Imagine flying like 50 copters from China? 20 pieces from Russia, #unknown number from USA over an intercontinental divide. It doesnt sound economically sensible plus it gives a very rich ground for attrition, environmental limitations such as flying over a wide sea, '(not advisable for copters)'. To me the warranty stands irrespective of point of assembly. The craft was regularly maintained and was last serviced late in May. Explains why eurocopter saw the need to send her own investigation team to Kenya.

Mwenyezi mungu akupatia pumziko la milele Prof Saitoti.

I must say I very much impressed na jinsi mke wa Prof alivyo, very composed and dignified.

Nasikiliza ibada ya mazishi, kwa kweli kwaya imepwaya sana.

Damn right, @ livefire. All sixteen Mi-28N now in service in KDF are recently locally assembled under the watchful supervision of the PC no doubt - but with Kenyan Engineers. The Numerical Machining Company has taken a huge role of parts manufacturing for the KDF specialised equipment - while wtz whine about Kenya-this-Kenya-that!!

And the KDF Helicopter-Assembly process continues with the balance of the batched procurement.

If i remember, there is not one single privately owned Helicopter in Tanzania ( I think there are four now!) that is not serviced in Kenya

The General Elections are around the corner, go figure!

That is an idiotic remark - what is your meaning, intelligently put, that it?

The main difficulty in Tanzania is her peoples' non-involvement in governance, due to a variety of reasons, some historical but also due to a corrupt and undeveloped political system that is more about good manners than good substance. Your Political class intentionally locks the population in the heady history of Ujamaa like some sort of Tonic. Critical discourse impossible, plurality of political opinions immature and primitive. Like Kenya was in the Eighties under an all-powerful unitary political system, so today is Tanzania.

This is not helped by the illiteracy levels being higher than anywhere in an expanded EAC except in Burundi Southern Sudan and Somalia.

And Tanzania look across the border at the vibrant and sometimes chaotic social engagement in Kenya, and retreat into their past as if this offers them comfort - delusional, superficial comfort!!

Rest in Peace Prof. George.
