Term length is a constitutional matter. It is set in the constitution. Its change will necessarily need a constitutional amendment.
That is no easy task. That is not just passing a bill in parliament and having the president sign it into law.
The tricky part with a constitutional amendment is that, there are 1,001 other things that were discussed vigorously as needing changes in the constitution. Including private candidates and ironically, limiting presidential powers. The President said that a constitutional amendment is not a priority.
So they were dropped.
Why should this be a priority?
If this is going to be adopted and procesed, why not the other proposals?
If this is passed and other proposals are left to rot, and we say that was done by design in the name of political expediency, will that assesment be wrong?
