About Dar es Salaam Maritime Gateway Program (DMGP)
The Dar es Salaam Maritime Gateway Program (DMGP) aims at improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the Dar es Salaam Port and supporting the economic development of Tanzania and the land-linked countries. This program will increase the capacity of the Port to handle Post Panamax vessels.

Project Background
The Dar es Salaam Port (DSM Port) is a multi-purpose port with eleven berths and a number of jetties. It is the country’s principal port that handles over 90% of country’s import and export volume and is the gateway to the central and northern parts of Tanzania and to the countries of Malawi, Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda.
The port includes the following facilities for handling of cargo:
  • General cargo Terminal : Berths 1-7: break bulk, RoRo and dry bulk
  • Container Terminal: Berths 8-11
  • Kurasini Oil Jetty: liquid bulk
  • Grain Terminal : dry bulk
  • The Single Point Mooring (SPM)
  • Passenger terminals: to Zanzibar and other destinations.
The DMGP is a partnership between the Government of Tanzania, the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA), other public and private stakeholders, and a coalition of development partners including the Trade Mark East Africa (TMEA), the United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID), and the World Bank (WB) through the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD)
The proposed Dar es Salaam Maritime Gateway Program (DMGP) is to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the DSM Port and support the economic development of Tanzania and the countries of the East Africa region. This program will increase the capacity of the port to 28 million tons by 2025. The ultimate goal of the DMGP therefore is the Conversion of the DAR port into a Port which works at World Class level with optimised efficiency. In physical terms that translates into a modernisation of the port to accommodate the calling and reception of larger vessels.

Some of these declarations are simply embarrassing!

Iwe Tanzania ports or Magufuli ports the reality is he won't allow Tanzanian cargo to be transshipped via Lamu port as Dar port can receive those Post Panamax directly! Sorry greedy Kunyans!
Zitapitshwa to Northern Tanzania upende usipende

JPM wont allow that having invested over $1bln to expand his 3 ports!
Mizigo Ya Dar Port lazima ipitie Lamu upende usipende. Take that to your broke banks for confirmation and for God's sake you LDCs are importing countries so you don't have a monopoly for shipping routes.

It is not Magu or any other dimwit to decide where a ship will dock to offload it's cargo...hapa Ni mambo na profit not to satisfy a stupid nationalistic venture.
