LECTURE #2-GENDER
Gender indicates whether a person or animal is male or female.
KINDS OF GENDER:
In English language genders are of four kinds:
- Masculine Gender
- Feminine Gender
- Common Gender
- Neuter Gender
1.MASCULINE GENDER:A noun which denotes a male person or an animal.
Examples:
Boy,Brother,Father,Husband ,horse,nephew ,uncle,son,author,man,dog,wizard etc .
2.FEMININE:A noun which denotes a female person or an animal.
Examples:
Girl,sister,mother,wife,mare,bitch,queen,woman,ant,daughter,niece,lady etc
3.COMMON NOUN(hizi hazitaji kabisa kama ni ke au me)
A noun which denotes both male and female person or an animal is known as common noun.
Examples:
Parents,painter,driver,cousin,child,enemy,person,thief ,friend,artists,singer,rider.
Yah hapa ukisikia maneno lazima ujiulize kuwa anayezungumziwa na ke au me.
4.NEUTER GENDER
A noun which denotes neither male nor female person or an animal is known as neuter gender.
Examples:
Book,Pen,Pencil,Table,School,Science,Car,College,Camera.Hahahaha hakuna Pen mwanamke au mwanume
SOME FACTS ABOUT GENDER
1.Note the use of the following words:
Salesman>>>>>>>>>>>Saleswoman
Spokesman>>>>>>>>>>Spokeswoman
Chairman>>>>>>>>>>>Chairperson or woman
2.Ships and countries are treated as feminine gender.
Examples:
- The ship has lost all her crew
- Tanzania is proud of her heritage and culture
3.Objects noted for strength and violence are treated as masculine gender.
Examples:
Sun,Summer,winter,time,death

his breams on the rich and the poor alike.
4.Objects notable for beauty,grace,gentleness,and admiration are treated as feminine gender.
Example:
Moon,Earth,Spring,Autumn,liberty,justice,mercy,peace,hope,charity.
- The moon has hidden her face behind a cloud
- Spring has spread her mantle of greenery over the earth.
- Peace has her victories no less renowned than war
