United: We'll fight Evra's ban
FURIOUS Manchester United vowed last night to appeal against a four-game ban for Patrice Evra over the Battle of Stamford Bridge.
The France defender was also fined £15,000, after the FA ruled that he attacked Chelsea groundsman Sam Bethell last season.
Chelsea have been fined £25,000 because of Bethell's conduct during the row, which followed the Blues' controversial 2-1 win on April 26.
Trouble broke out as United's players warmed down.
An allegation Bethell ‘engaged in racist conduct or language' toward Evra was found not proved.
Evra admitted he struck Bethell on the head. And the fact he went back and continued the row after it had been broken up went against him too.
The ban for improper conduct means he will miss the Premier League fixtures at Stoke on Boxing Day and Middlesbrough on December 29, the FA Cup third-round tie at Southampton on January 4, plus the first leg of United's Carling Cup semi-final.
In a statement, the club said: "Manchester United are disappointed with the decision and consider the sanctions against Patrice Evra excessive.
"Manchester United and Patrice will consider all options once there has been an opportunity to digest the full reasons for the decision."
Chelsea said: "Clearly the incident was a regrettable one."
