Morning Reflection (QT) - John 16:1-15
Introduction.
Jesus again tells the disciples about how they will suffer.
He says that he is returning to God the Father but will send the Holy Spirit who will lead them and reveal the truth about God.
Reflection.
Because of what Jesus has said, how are the disciples feeling (verse 6)?
Why does Jesus tell the disciples that it is better for him to go away (verse 7)?
How does Jesus describe the work of the Holy Spirit (verses 13, 14)? In what ways have you experienced the work of the Holy Spirit in your life?
Pray.
Lord Jesus, thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to lead and guide me each day and to reveal to me the truth about God. Because you have sent the Holy Spirit, I trust that you are with me each day as I continue in my journey in faith.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
John 16:1
“I have told you this so that you may not fall away.
John 16:2
They will expel you from the synagogues; in fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you will think he is offering worship to God.
John 16:3
They will do this because they have not known either the Father or me.
John 16:4
I have told you this so that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you. “I did not tell you this from the beginning, because I was with you.
John 16:5
But now I am going to the one who sent me, and not one of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’
John 16:6
But because I told you this, grief has filled your hearts.
John 16:7
But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go. For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.
John 16:8
And when he comes he will convict the world in regard to sin and righteousness and condemnation:
John 16:9
sin, because they do not believe in me;
John 16:10
righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see me;
John 16:11
condemnation, because the ruler of this world has been condemned.
John 16:12
“I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now.
John 16:13
But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming.
John 16:14
He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.
John 16:15
Everything that the Father has is mine; for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.
