Morning Reflection (QT) - John 16:1-15

Introduction.

Jesus again tells the disciples about how they will suffer.
He says that he is returning to God the Father but will send the Holy Spirit who will lead them and reveal the truth about God.

Reflection.

Because of what Jesus has said, how are the disciples feeling (verse 6)?
Why does Jesus tell the disciples that it is better for him to go away (verse 7)?

How does Jesus describe the work of the Holy Spirit (verses 13, 14)? In what ways have you experienced the work of the Holy Spirit in your life?

Pray.

Lord Jesus, thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to lead and guide me each day and to reveal to me the truth about God. Because you have sent the Holy Spirit, I trust that you are with me each day as I continue in my journey in faith.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

John 16:1

“I have told you this so that you may not fall away.

John 16:2

They will expel you from the synagogues; in fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you will think he is offering worship to God.

John 16:3

They will do this because they have not known either the Father or me.

John 16:4

I have told you this so that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you. “I did not tell you this from the beginning, because I was with you.

John 16:5

But now I am going to the one who sent me, and not one of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’
John 16:6

But because I told you this, grief has filled your hearts.

John 16:7

But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go. For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.

John 16:8

And when he comes he will convict the world in regard to sin and righteousness and condemnation:

John 16:9

sin, because they do not believe in me;

John 16:10

righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see me;

John 16:11

condemnation, because the ruler of this world has been condemned.

John 16:12

“I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now.

John 16:13

But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming.

John 16:14

He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.

John 16:15

Everything that the Father has is mine; for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.

THIRTY-SECOND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A

THE DEDICATION OF THE BASILICAS OF SAINTS PETER AND PAUL, Apostles

FIRST READING
There appeared an unhindered way out of the Red Sea, and they leaped like lambs.
WISDOM 18: 14 - 16; 19: 6 - 9

While gentle silence enveloped all things, and night in its swift course was now half gone, your all-powerful word leaped from heaven, from the royal throne, into the midst of the land that was doomed, a stem warrior carrying the sharp sword of your authentic command, and stood and filled all things with death, and touched heaven while standing on the earth. For the whole creation in its nature was fashioned anew, complying with your commands, that your children might be kept unharmed. The cloud was seen overshadowing the camp, and dry land emerging where water had stood before, an unhindered way out of the Red Sea, and a grassy plain out of the raging waves, where those protected by your hand passed through as one nation, after gazing on marvelous wonders. For they ranged like horses, and leaped like lambs, praising you, O Lord, who delivered them.

The Word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM
Psalm 105: 2 - 3, 36 - 37, 42 - 43 (R.) 5a

R/. Remember the wonders the Lord has done.
Or:
Alleluia.

O sing to him, sing his praise;
tell all his wonderful works!
Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts that seek the Lord rejoice. R/.

He struck all the firstborn in their land,
the first fruit of all their strength.
He led out Israel with silver and gold.
In his tribes were none who stumbled. R/.

For he remembered his holy word,
spoken to Abraham his servant.
So he brought out his people with joy,
his chosen ones with shouts of rejoicing. R/.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
2nd Thessalonians 2: 14

Alleluia.
God has called us through the Gospel, to obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Alleluia.

GOSPEL
God will vindicate his elect, who cry to him.
LUKE 18: 1 - 8

At that time: Jesus told his disciples a parable, to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor regarded man; and there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Vindicate me against my adversary.’ “For a while he refused; but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor regard man, yet because this widow bothers me, I will vindicate her, or she will wear me out by her continual coming.”’ And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says. And will not God vindicate his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you, he will vindicate them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man comes, will he find faith on earth?

The Gospel of the Lord.

Morning Reflection (QT).

Introduction.

Jesus warns his disciples that they will be hated and suffer persecution because they have chosen to believe in and follow him.

He promises to send the “Helper”—the Spirit who will come from God the Father and who will reveal the truth about God.

Reflection.

What are your thoughts concerning Jesus’s words to his disciples?

Are these words hard to hear?

Why or why not?

Does today’s reading contain any words of reassurance?

What does today’s reading teach about the cost of discipleship?

Are you aware of anyone who has been persecuted for his or her faith?

Pray.

Dear Jesus, keep me close to you and strong in faith.

You are my Lord and Savior, and I am your disciple.

May I never stray from your teachings. Give me a spirit of boldness to proclaim the good news of your love and salvation.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

John 15:18-27

John 15:18

“If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first.

John 15:19

If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you.

John 15:20

Remember the word I spoke to you, ‘No slave is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.

John 15:21

And they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me.

John 15:22

If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin; but as it is they have no excuse for their sin.

John 15:23

Whoever hates me also hates my Father.

John 15:24

If I had not done works among them that no one else ever did, they would not have sin; but as it is, they have seen and hated both me and my Father.

John 15:25

But in order that the word written in their law might be fulfilled, ‘They hated me without cause.’

John 15:26

“When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth that proceeds from the Father, he will testify to me.

John 15:27

And you also testify, because you have been with me from the beginning.

Evening Reflection (QT)

Introduction.

This psalm is a song written for use on the Sabbath, the day for rest and worship (Exodus 20:8-11; Deuteronomy 5:12-15). It celebrates God’s goodness and righteousness.

Reflection.

This psalm, in addition to being a song of praise, is also written in the wisdom tradition.

Reread verses 5-8 and 12-15. How are the wicked described? What is their fate?

How are the righteous described? What does it mean to “flourish”?

What does verse 15 affirm? Many of the psalms were intended to be sung as part of the worship in the Temple in Jerusalem.

How are psalms used in your community of faith?

Pray.

Most High God, I proclaim your constant love every morning and your faithfulness every night.

With you, O God, I flourish like a palm tree, rooted in you and growing strong in faith.

I sing your praises, and with a thankful heart I declare your goodness.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

CELEBRATING HAJI MANARA FOR UNDOING ALBINISM STIGMA IN SOLO ACTS OF AUDACITY!

Regrettably, Manara contributions in uplifting the public image of the albinos may go unnoticed to majority of us, but we feel it is vital as a nation we find a suitable way to celebrate him who almost singlehandedly has made majority of us to be comfortable to be with or being albino, whichever.

After his massive contributions, it is time he is reinstated unconditionally to his previous docket restored with his back payments in full.

It will be an act of sadist not to reinstate him in his previous post, justice demands just THAT!

WE SAY THE AMENDED ELECTIONS LAWS ARE FAKE, NOT ADDRESSING THE REAL CAUSES OF ILLEGAL REPRESENTATION

We promise to deal with this matter sometime in the near future poking holes in proposed elections laws

We repeat they are not worth the ink they were penned down.

We peek hypocrisy repurposed to hoodwink us and everybody else that the country is on the march to the Promised Land...but to nowhere! If not to the bridge of the abyss...

Why squander meager resources for a legislative effort which make zero attempt to rectify and fix once and for all official rigging of our elections?

Why call the NEC independent while it is under the leash of state capture?

Chief Justice and other judges corrupt the commission by violating the doctrine of separation of powers between the judiciary and the executive

More will be dilated somewhere in the near future.

Morning Reflection (QT). - John 15:1-17

Introduction.

God’s people are sometimes described as a vineyard (see Isaiah 5:1-7; Jeremiah 2:21; Ezekiel 19:10-14; Hosea 10:1).

Jesus identifies himself as the real vine and his followers as branches connected to the vine.

Jesus tells his followers to remain in him so that they bear fruit that endures. Today’s reading concludes with Jesus repeating his command to love one another.

Reflection.

Today’s reading includes another of the “I am” sayings of Jesus (verses 1, 5).

How do you understand the image of vine and branches as a metaphor for a community of faith?

Why or why not? Why does Jesus say that we are to stay connected to him (the vine)? What “fruit” will you bear today?

Pray.

Lord Jesus, you are the real vine, and we are the branches.

You have called us your friends. Keep me close to you so that I remain in your love as a fruitful disciple.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

John 15:1-17

John 15:1

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower.

John 15:2

He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and everyone that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit.

John 15:3

You are already pruned because of the word that I spoke to you.

John 15:4

Remain in me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me.

John 15:5

I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.

John 15:6

Anyone who does not remain in me will be thrown out like a branch and wither; people will gather them and throw them into a fire and they will be burned.

John 15:7

If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you.

John 15:8

By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.

John 15:9

As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love.

John 15:10

If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.

John 15:11

“I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.

John 15:12

This is my commandment: love one another as I love you.

John 15:13

No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

John 15:14

You are my friends if you do what I command you.

John 15:15

I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father.

John 15:16

It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you.

John 15:17

This I command you: love one another.
