I would advise John S. Malecela that it is time he started planning a graceful retirement from active politics.
He should be reminded of the old adage that CRIME DOESN'T PAY.
We observed the beating up of straggling young democrats in Busanda, the organization of which he backed or turned a blind eye to. That was criminal and unpardonable to a distinguished "servant of the people" aged 75.
I would advise JSM to follow the footsteps of those who have occupied positions similar to what he once occupied, like Cleopa David Msuya, Salum Ahmed Salum and even young Frederick Sumaye, who now move in dignity amongst citizens of Tz without the blemish of nipping Tanzanian democracy in the bud.
After all, as a former Prime Minister and Vice President of Tanzania, his pension for life is guaranteed by statute; he is to have a personal car, driver and bodyguard for life and can be treated at government expense in any Hospital abroad of his choice. What else could Tanzania give to demonstrate her gratitude?
In return and in order to ensure that Wananchi continue to earn as decent a living as possible so that they pay taxes for his enjoyment, we ask him to let them choose a vibrant Parliament, capable of curbing incompetence, corruption and irresponsibility in Government. In other words, give the people genuine freedom to choose their M.P.s.
Plan to retire gracefully, JSM. Dettach youself from thugs labelled as 'green guards', brandishing mapanga and simes against fellow Tanzanians. Urge the police, whom you control, to curb this hooliganism. This trend will taint your name in the history of Tz.
