Enoch Atta-Agyei, Moses Sarpong and Kwesi Donsu were on target for the Yellow and Mauves while Jonathan Bolingi and Rainford Kalaba fetched the Ravens’ consolation at the Sekondi-Essipong Stadium.
Medeama coach Prince Owusu made just a change to the side that handed Tanzania’s Young Africans a 3-1 defeat in their preceding match, with Victor Ayirey coming on for the suspended Paul Aidoo.
Hubert Velud of Mazembe, meanwhile, presented a strong side featuring Jean Kasusula, captain Nathan Sinkala, Rainford Kalaba and Ghana international Daniel Nii Agyei.
It was almost a ding-dong affair in the opening 20 minutes as both sides mounted attacks to open the scoring.
Samuel Adade was at hand to curtail a Roger Assale attempt for the away side in the seventh minute, just moments before Bernard Ofori sent a shot wide at the other end.
Kwesi Donsu then saw his free-kick deflected off target, before Eric Kwakwa tested goalkeeper Sylvian Gbohouo on 25 minutes.
Medeama goalkeeper Daniel Agyei was then called into action in the 30th minute, but it was the Yellow and Mauves who opened the scoring two minutes later through Enoch Atta-Agyei. The winger seemingly drove in a harmless free-kick but Gbohouo mysteriously spilled what should have been coolly collected, to give the home side the lead.
Back from the break, Medeama mounted more pressure in search for the second.
Atta-Agyei spurned a good opportunity while Donsu’s effort was saved by Gbohouo – both attempts coming within the first three minutes of the second period.
The Yellow and Mauves, however, consolidated their lead on 61 minutes through a Moses Sarpong penalty after Issama Mpeko handled the ball in the box.
This time around, the visitors didn’t take long to hit back, Jonathan Bolingi halving the deficit four minutes later.
The action was certainly not over as the visitors drew parity through a Kalaba 73rd minute header following a defensive lapse by the home side.
Following a series of exchanges, the game headed for a stalemate but Donsu netted late in added-on time to give Medeama a 3-2 win.
The Yellow and Mauves still sit second in the group, but now two points behind leaders Mazembe.
The Ghanaians have a last group match against MO Bejaia of Algeria, who suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Young Africans on Saturday.
