AT LEAST 30 young basketball players are set to undergo special clinics aimed at searching talents. The clinic will be conducted by Spanish based U-1ST Sports Expansion later this month.
Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) Secretary General, Alexander Msoffe told the ‘Daily News' on Monday that the clinics will be conducted in Dar es Salaam and Arusha.
Msoffe said 25 youth of Under-16 will take part in each session in Arusha and Dar es Salaam, whereas those who will meet the qualification marks will secure the deal to be trained in various academies worldwide.
He said youth with a height of 6 foot, 3 inches are encouraged to show up for the clinics on January 25 and 26 at the Soweto grounds in Arusha and 28 and 29 January at the Don Bosco grounds in Dar es Salaam.
Msoffe said those who will succeed will be trained in various academies run by U-1ST Sports Expansion in various parts on the world. The search will be conducted by three coaches to be led by Anicet Lavodrama, who has been conducting such clinics for many years.
Msoffe said those who made it in previous searches are in various academies in Kenya, Uganda and last year they endorsed Rajab Rashid for Italy for a similar mission.
Last year's session was conducted through the International School of Tanganyika programme, and Msofe said they inherited the programme when they were elected in office.
He said that they aim at improving the standards and basketball and the mission can only be achieved if they invest heavily in youth programmes. He was optimistic that with a number of youth development programmes, the country will have a good number of talented players who can win honour for the nation in various competitions.
