Russian Klitschko accused of conning fans
Wednesday, 22 December 2010 22:01

London. Wladimir Klitschko has been accused of trying to con fight fans by insisting he is ready to face David Haye.
The WBA and IBF world heavyweight champion's demands for a 50-50 revenue split and for the bout to be screened by German broadcaster RTL have been agreed by Haye's manager and trainer Adam Booth.

But so far Klitschko has refused to sign on the dotted line, with his manager Bernd Boente insisting there is no point in agreeing a fight contract.
Both camps are well aware of the situation because Booth has copied them into all email exchanges between himself and Boente.
Furious Booth blasted: "Boente, on behalf of Wladimir, has demanded a 50-50 split of all revenue to which we have agreed - that includes money generated by Sky TV here in England.

"He also demanded the fight be screed in Germany by RTL even if ARD, our own broadcaster in Germany, offered more money - we have also agreed to that. "I could not get to Berlin to negotiate face-to-face with Boente because of the obvious travel problems and email could have provided the perfect solution. "Boente wanted all the money agreed by January 4 and we are able to meet his deadline - but I am told that he has now flown off on holiday to Miami until January 21.
"What perturbs me is that in all emails from Boente he either starts or finishes with 'there is no point in negotiating'.

"Yet overnight, Vitali Klitschko says his brother Wlad is ready to fight David - I am wondering what kind of game they are playing. (AFP)
"We have agreed to all of Klitschko's demands, yet we are being told there is no point in negotiating.
"Fans out there have every right to feel they might be being misled by some of the statements that are coming out.

"Boente is telling me they are ready to do the fight with Dereck Chisora - which was postponed because of an injury to Wlad - and that we should start talking to other interested parties.
"It leaves a bit of a sour taste so now I have asked Wladimir whether he wants this fight. Al I want from them is a straight yes of no.

"If he says yes, then fine, let's do it. If the answer is no, then the whole of the boxing world needs to know just who is saying what."
Wladimir currently holds the IBF and WBO versions of the world crown, while his elder brother Vitali is the WBC champion.
They want Haye's WBA crown to complete a clean sweep and Vitali said: "It is always Haye who comes up with the excuses.

"Last year we had a signed contract and that wasn't enough. Haye has the last remaining title that doesn't belong to a Klitschko.
"There are no problems with us to make a fight with Haye."
But Booth dismissed the Ukrainian's version of events. He responded: "Some people might think the opposite to what Vitali is saying.
"If any TV station out there - RTL, Sky or anyone else - wants to know the true state of affairs, I suggest they contact me."

Nyilawila risks being stripped of WBF title
Wednesday, 15 December 2010 23:22

By Majuto Omary
The Citizen Reporter
Dar es Salaam. Newly crowned World Boxing Federation (WBF) middleweight champion Tanzanian Karama Nyilawila now risks being stripped of his title, it has been disclosed.

Nyilawila is required to swing back in action this month to defend his title, but the Pugilist Syndicate of Tanzania (PST) says it cannot afford to raise the money WBF needs to sanction the fight. PST president Emmanuel Mlundwa admitted yesterday that they were racing against time to raise the money needed to pay sanction fees.

"WBF needs about Sh7.5 million ($5,000) to sanction the bout. We can't afford to raise that amount because our boxing body is in financial crisis," said Mlundwa. Nyilawila, one of the best middleweight pugilists in the country at the moment, won the WBF title in the Czech Republic recently at the expense of Kreshnik Qato.

Mlundwa said they are working round the clock to ensure the boxer defends his title abroad instead of Tanzania because many local boxers are reluctant to bankroll the fight.

The middleweight boxer is now rated 43rd in the world. Ireland's boxer Anthony Fitzgerald, who is the WBF Inter-Continental champion, is among the boxers likely to challenge the Tanzania for the title.

Fitzgerald has a record of 10 wins with two defeats.
Mlundwa appealed to firms, boxing stakeholders and well wishers for financial support, saying that is the only way to rescue the boxer from being stripped of title.

Khan tipped to match Hutton greatness after WBA victory
Tuesday, 14 December 2010 23:01

Las Vegas. Oscar De La Hoya claims Amir Khan can be as big in America as Ricky Hatton.
The Hitman was the king of Vegas and the Brit invasion he led became folklore.
Hailing Khan's sensational win over Marcos Maidana to retain his WBA light-welterweight crown as "the fight of the year", De La Hoya said: "Amir can be like Ricky. There's no doubt about. He's got the whole package.

"Like Ricky, he's a fighter who is as charismatic outside the ring as inside. He knows how to fight, he knows how to please the crowd, he knows what people want.
"That's what makes him a true great in the making.
"For me, he showed all that against Maidana. Winning means his next fight here in Vegas can be huge. Now it's about him continuing along that path to glory."
Before Khan left for his precautionary brain scan, he posed in the ring with his WBA 140-pound title belt-along with two bruised eyes, scars on his chest and dried blood still stuck to his lip and front teeth.

That's what a real boxer looks like, and the flashy British star proved he's extremely real in a grinding victory over Maidana.
Khan (24-1, 17 KOs) outboxed the Argentine slugger in the early rounds and survived a brutal onslaught on his feet in the 10th round, holding on for a unanimous decision. Although the Mandalay Bay Events Centre was only about half-full for his Las Vegas debut, nobody in attendance could doubt Khan had taken the best shots of a ferocious puncher and survived.

Now that Khan has the tough-guy credentials many doubted he could ever earn, along with a major boost for his stateside fame, he can return to his new home in Bolton. He deserves a December break after nearly four months of training that took him from Hollywood to the Philippines, where he sparred with fellow Freddie Roach pupil Manny Pacquiao.(AFP)

Taifa Stars motivated

By DAILY NEWS reporter, 29th December 2010 @ 12:00,

TAIFA Stars players have been challenged and inspired to win the inaugural Nile Basin soccer tournament, kicking off in Cairo, Egypt on Wednesday.

Deputy Minister for Information, Youth, Culture and Sports Fenella Mukangara paid an impromptu visit to the team's evening training session at the Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam and she gave players an uplifting message.

She told them to use the Mainland's Kilimanjaro Stars recent victory in the Cecafa Challenge Cup as a motivation and go all the way to lift the trophy in Egypt.

Mukangara said the secret to victory is wining spirit, saying such was highly demonstrated by Kilimanjaro Stars and she believes that Taifa Stars are capable of doing the same.

She said the government was behind the team and will continue to provide support whenever approached.

Taifa Stars will depart for Cairo on Sunday ready for the championships, which is organized and sponsored by the Egyptian Football Association.

The tournament will bring together nine countries including hosts Egypt, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Sudan.

The objective of the Nile Basin soccer tournament was to create awareness among all countries sharing the Nile Basin, to safeguard the water resource for the benefit of future generations.

Tanzania to host Africa Rally Championships Sept

By DAILY NEWS Reporter, 29th December 2010 @ 11:00

TANZANIA will host the African Rally Championships (ARC) in September as opposed to February, it has been learnt.

According to the calendar released by the African rally governing body, (CACMS) the changes are attributed to the additional of the two more events for the 2011 FIA African Rally Championships, which are South Africa's Sosal Rally and Madagascar's Total Rally International.

The Tanzania Automobile Association (AAT) president Nizar Jivan told the ‘Daily News' from Nairobi on Wednesday that the new changes were necessitated following a request by South Africa that it was time for the Southern Africa region to stage the event ahead of the Northern region.

He said before the changes were made, the CACMS consulted each member country and they unanimously approved the changes.

"They decided to divide the event into two zones, which are Southern, and Northern and we agreed to let the Southern zone to stage the event first and the race will begin from March 11 to 13 with Toyota Zimbabwe Challenge Rally, which will kick off the first round of the 2011ARC," he said.

Sasol Rally South Africa will hold the second round from April 15 to 17 and then the rally will move to Zambia from May 20 to 23. Then it will be turn for Kenya's KCB Safari Rally Kenya that will take place from June 17 to 19 and the race will move on to Uganda's KCB Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally from July 15 to 17.

Tanzania who in the past four consecutive years has been staging the first round of the ARC in February, will now host the Kobil Rally of Tanzania from September 2 to 4.

Jivani said the new changes will be a blessing in disguise for Tanzanian drivers because it will give them ample time to prepare for the Tanzanian edition of the rally.

"We are pleased because the changes will give our local drivers time to prepare well and win the Tanzania edition of the rally," he said.

Rwanda's premier rally event, which is the penultimate round on the 2011 FIA ARC calendar, will now be held from September 30-October 2. And the final round will take place from November 25 to 27 in Madagascar. Last year Tanzanian drivers fired blanks in continental championships in which Zimbabwe's James Whyte retained his African crown after raking in 180 points in the six- round event.

Angela Bondo talk show starts with BBA4 duo

By ORTON KIISHWEKO, 29th December 2010 @ 11:00, Total Comments: 0, Hits: 66

IT was a dream come true for TV presenter-turned talk show host Angela Bondo when she hosted her debut recording of the Angela Bondo show in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday night.

Thriving on her dream to follow on Oprah Winfrey's path at Tanzania's level, she thanked her supporters for having helped her achieve her life's ‘reverie'.

The show was honoured by the first ever appearance of Nigeria's Big Brother Africa4 winner Kevin Chuwang Pam and his former housemate and now wife to be, Tanzania's Elizabeth Gupta, who he already engaged in August this year.

Well dressed and easily approachable even with his somewhat intimidating intellectual precision, Kevin has come to represent what most young people his age only dream of attaining.

You would think he were done too, ready to sit back and enjoy his new love Elizabeth and all. Instead, Kevin has gone on to enlist new pursuits to his growing list of projects; a Non Government Organisation dealing with conflict, music projects, event management business among others.

Well dressed and cultured in manner, the young man jokes as much in the same measure as he dreams big.

A winner for BBA4 though he may be now, Kevin maintained, during Tuesday's talk show Interview that his major objective of joining the BBA House was to shape his experiences, working on the Chinese adage, ‘teach a man how to fish.' Elizabeth explained the ‘little' but important things he loved about Kevin from their days in the house.

"He was cleaner than even the girls, he had elements of having grown up in a good family value upbringing, he loves God and respects women," she said amid applause from the audience.

The first recording of the show used their love story which will culminate into marriage in a few days, to educate young people to work hard for their dreams and study people they would want to spend their lives with.

It showed how the BBA voyeuristic entertainer over the last few years has created a perfect love match in the couple, expected to get married soon.

TID energetically performed his single in a fun field minutes which influenced the audience to stand up and sing in unison as they awaited Kevin's appearance. Kevin and Elizabeth together performed their new single titled ‘Tunapata Mambo' thrilling the audience, before his four sisters joined the stage for introduction to the audience.

Kevin has already released singles of his debut album, "Wok Pichak" featuring Stitched, "Una Pata Mambo" featuring Stitched and Elizabeth, "Thank You" and "Dance Hall Nice" are already getting airplay on the radio back home.

After the show, the party headed from the show hall at Paradise City Hotel to Savannah Lounge at the third floor of Benjamin Mkapa towers.

But it did not end there as the crowd moved over to Club Bilicanas to epitomise a perfect night with the launch of TID's album, ‘Sifai'.

Bundi bado airandia Yanga

Phiri ignites club versus country row

From ISSA YUSSUF in Zanzibar, 29th December 2010 @ 11:00, Total Comments: 0, Hits: 146

CLUB-versus-country row is heating up after Simba Coach Patrick Phiri insisted on Wednesday that he would love to have in camp all players including those in Taifa Stars camp.

Simba are camping in Zanzibar to prepare for the CAF Champions League, Mapinduzi Cup and the next round of the Premier League, which is set to kick off next month.

They are in isles minus five players who are with the Taifa Stars camp in Dar es Salaam. The players are-Juma Kaseja, Juma Nyoso, Kelvin Yondan, Rashid Gumbo and Ali Ahmed ‘Shiboli'.

The five are as well considered pivotal for Taifa Stars quest to shine at the inaugural Nile Basin tournament set for Cairo, Egypt next month, the event which Dane coach Jan Poulsen will use to prepare Taifa Stars for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

And, the Zambian tactician has placed himself in a collision course with the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), saying he is not comfortable to train without his key players.

He argues that his training programme has greatly been interfered. Phiri has joined Young Africans counterpart Kostadin Papic, who has also openly spoken on his desire to pull back his players saying the Cairo tournament was badly positioned and was interfering his training programmes.

"Zanzibar is a good place for training, but we have asked the leadership to help press our players in the national team to join us.

We hope for the best," Phiri said. He was supported by Team Manager Innocent Njovu who confirmed here on Wednesday that they have already submitted the formal request to the TFF.

"We would love to have all our players in Zanzibar for training, but we have not got any response from the TFF. We do not know whether they will be released soon," Njovu said.

TFF Acting General Secretary Sunday Kayuni said on Monday that they have not received any official letter from the two clubs demanding the release of their players from the national team, but he spoke of the determination to send the strongest possible squad for the tournament in Cairo.

Simba arrived in Zanzibar last Monday, and would remain in the islands until January 16, next year.

"Always camping away from home is good, because it allows players concentrate on training.

All players were checked before coming to Zanzibar, and the results showed they are all OK for training. We train at beaches and at Fuoni play ground," Njovu said.

Both Phiri and Njovu said that Mapinduzi Cup tournament was good opportunity for training, because they said, all the teams taking part in the tournament are good.

Njovu said that they had also requested the leadership to arrange for international friendly matches after the Mapinduzi Cup.

Mtibwa Sugar yaipiga Majimaji 4-0

Balotelli: Mambo shwari Man City

LONDON, England

Michael Jackson died in June 2009 aged 50

Discovery Channel to cancel plans for a programme claiming to re-enact the late singer's autopsy. John Branca and John McClain said the show was "in shockingly bad taste".
In a letter, the pair accused the company of being motivated by "blind desire" to exploit the singer's death.
The show - entitled Michael Jackson's Autopsy: What Really Killed Michael Jackson - is scheduled to be broadcast in Europe in January.
"Your decision to even schedule this programme is in shockingly bad taste and insensitive to Michael's family," the co-executors wrote.
"On behalf of Michael's family, fans, common sense and decency, we urge you to reconsider and cancel this programme," they added.
An advertisement used to promote the show reportedly depicts a body covered by a sheet with one hand wearing the singer's trademark sequined glove visible.
"Discovery obviously views this as clever advertising and creative 'branding' for its programme," Branca and McClain continued.
"In fact, the ad is debased, sick and insensitive."

Dr Conrad Murray has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter

Discovery Communications declined to comment on the letter, the Reuters news agency reported.
Meanwhile, lawyers for the doctor facing trial for involuntary manslaughter over Jackson's death may suggest the singer killed himself, a prosecutor has claimed.
In a court session to discuss evidence in the case against Dr Conrad Murray, Deputy District Attorney David Walgren said he believed defence lawyers were looking into the theory.
"They don't want to say it but that's the direction in which they are going," he said on Wednesday.
Outside the Los Angeles courtroom, defence lawyer J Michael Flanagan declined to comment and said lawyers were still investigating the case.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled to begin on 4 January where it will be decided if there is sufficient evidence to hold Dr Murray for trial.
Dr Murray has repeatedly denied causing Jackson's death.

Joe Jackson initially filed the legal action in June

Michael Jackson's father has refiled a wrongful death claim against the late singer's doctor in a Los Angeles court.
Joe Jackson is seeking damages from Dr Conrad Murray, who has pleaded not guilty in a separate criminal case to involuntary manslaughter of the singer.
Mr Jackson has added as a defendant a Las Vegas pharmacy that sold the doctor a powerful anaesthetic blamed for Jackson's death in Los Angeles in 2009.
Coroners blamed Jackson's death on intoxication from the drug propofol.
Court records show the anaesthetic was sold by Applied Pharmacy Services the month before the singer's death.
Mr Jackson has accused the pharmacy of selling Dr Murray excessive quantities of propofol, which is normally administered in hospital settings.
But authorities have said the sale was legal as a doctor licensed in two states can buy propofol in one and administer it in another.
Dr Murray is licensed in California, Nevada and Texas.
"Much to discover" Mr Jackson initially filed the legal action against Dr Murray in federal court on 25 June, the anniversary of his son's death, but a judge ruled that it should be handled in state court, where it was refiled on Tuesday.
Mr Jackson's attorney Brian Oxman said the facts of the singer's death had been "way too slow in emerging" adding there was "still much to discover".
Mr Jackson claims Dr Murray was negligent in administering propofol to Jackson, and that he did not tell paramedics or an emergency room doctor that he had given the singer the drug.
Dr Murray admits administering the drug to Jackson on the day he died but denies any wrongdoing, saying he had been injecting him with the drug to help him sleep.
Dr Murray is due in court in the new year to face criminal charges.
