On January 5, 2021 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Nigerian Foreign Affairs Minister Geoffrey Onyeama in Abuja during his official visit to Nigeria. Nigerian ministers of Industry, Trade and Investment, Transportation, Aviation and Health also attended the talks.

Wang Yi said, for 30 years in a row, Chinese foreign ministers have chosen Africa as their first New Year visit destination, which demonstrates the unbreakable traditional friendship between China and Africa.

This year's visit shows that the COVID-19 cannot stop China-Africa friendship and cooperation. China has always prioritized its cooperation with Nigeria and taken Nigeria as a major strategic partner.

Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 50 years ago, China and Nigeria have always treated each other with mutual understanding, mutual trust and mutual support. Both sides cherish their friendship and cooperation, respect each other's core interests and major concerns, uphold non-interference in internal affairs, and support multilateralism and democracy in international relations.

China is ready to work with Nigeria to review the useful experience of the past 50 years and draw up a blueprint for the next 50 years. China highly appreciates Nigeria's consistent understanding and support on issues concerning China's core interests and major concerns, and will continue to support Nigeria in playing a more important role on the international and regional stage, and support Nigeria in safeguarding its sovereignty, security and development interests.

Wang Yi added, this year is vital for China-Nigeria relations. It is the right time for the two countries to set up an intergovernmental committee and make overall plans for bilateral cooperation. He hopes the two sides will promote the earlier operation of the committee for facilitating bilateral cooperation.

China is ready to strengthen cooperation with Nigeria in infrastructure, agriculture, investment, free trade zone, education and other fields, and import more Nigerian products.

China welcomes Nigeria to actively participate in the China International Import Expo and share China's development opportunities.
Wang Yi stressed that since the inception of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) 20 years ago, China-Africa cooperation has made important progress in all fields. China appreciates Nigeria's support for developing the FOCAC and is ready to work with Nigeria and other African members to hold a successful new session of the FOCAC and make plans for the next step of China-Africa cooperation.

China congratulates Africa on the commencement of the African Continental Free Trade Area on January 1 this year. It is an important step taken by Africa in solidarity and self-improvement, and also important progress in Africa's economic integration. China is ready to explore free trade cooperation with Africa.

Wang Yi expressed, China-Nigeria relations go beyond the bilateral scope. China is ready to work with Nigeria to uphold multilateralism and oppose unilateral actions; to uphold free trade and oppose protectionism; to uphold fairness and justice and oppose power bullying, and to safeguard the common rights and interests of developing countries.

Onyeama said, the Chinese foreign minister makes Nigeria the first stop of his first foreign visit in the New Year, which reflects the high level of Nigeria-China relations. Nigeria attaches great importance to developing close cooperation with China and regards China as a special strategic partner of cooperation.

Nigeria firmly supports the one-China principle and appreciates China's adherence to the "one country, two systems". He thanked China for always standing with Nigeria and providing strong support for its fight against the pandemic. Nigeria will ensure efficient operation of the intergovernmental committee of the two countries, enhance bilateral cooperation and look forward to jointly hosting celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties with China.

Nigeria hopes to strengthen cooperation with China in infrastructure, education, information and communications technology, vaccines and other fields, and welcomes more Chinese enterprises to invest in Nigeria to ease the trade imbalance. The FOCAC has become a model of mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Nigeria, as well as between China and Africa. Nigeria is ready to work with China to make the new session of FOCAC a success.

Nigeria and China have conducted fruitful cooperation in multilateral institutions and international affairs. Nigeria is ready to further strengthen coordination and cooperation with China to safeguard the common interests of developing countries.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.

After the talks, the two foreign ministers signed a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of the China-Nigeria Intergovernmental Committee.

Tanzania, China ties for New Heights - January 2021

Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi started his five-nation tour in Africa on Monday, which will take him to Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Botswana, Tanzania and Seychelles in line with the ministry's 30-year diplomatic tradition of paying new year visits to Africa, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying at a press briefing.

Chinese foreign ministers have chosen Africa for their first overseas visit each year since 1991.

"China and Africa's friendship had withstood the pandemic and risen to a new height in 2020. The Extraordinary China-Africa Summit on Solidarity against COVID-19 jointly held by president Xi Jinping and the African leaders has set the example for global anti-epidemic cooperation. 2020 marked the 20th anniversary of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC)", said Hua.

Wang finds a continent desperate for Covid-19 vaccines, medical supplies and debt relief.

With the Chinese economy having taken a hit from the pandemic, there's concern in African capitals that lending will dry up or decrease significantly.

In Tanzania

THE Sino-Tanzania long relationship is headed for new heights as China's State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, is set to jet in the country on Thursday Jan 07, 2021 for a two-day official visit.

Minister Wang, according to the government Chief Spokesperson, Dr Hassan Abbasi, will be received by President John Magufuli at the new Geita Airport.

The visit, the first for China top brass leader since President Magufuli came to power in 2015, signifies a long relation between Tanzania and China dated back since the 1960's as established by the two nation founding fathers-Mwalimu Julius Nyerere and Chairman Mao Zedong.

The China-Tanzania relation dates back to 1960s, when China was still a developing country and it was cemented when Dar es Salaam campaigned for Beijing to regain its United Nations Security Council "veto power" and the construction of Tanzania Zambia Railway (Tazara) in early 1970s.

"Tanzania assisted China a lot to learn about Africa and equally significant, Tanzania learned a lot from China, especially in the area of social development via socialism.

"It is well remembered that China also joined Tanzania when it pioneered the liberation struggle for countries in South Africa, through provision of various aids-including arms and housing liberators," Dr Abbasi said.

The government spokesperson said in recent years, the two countries' relations turned to economic and social development. For instance, in the last 30 years, the Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) from Beijing to Dar reached 7.5billion US dollars for Mainland and 142.9 million US dollars to Zanzibar.

The FDIs translated to almost 950 noticeable investments for both Mainland and Isles.

"This makes China one of the leading investors in Tanzania," Dr Abbasi said.

Data show that the FDIs have created almost 200,000 jobs in Tanzania.

Meanwhile, Tanzania exports a number of agricultural products to China, including soya beans, cassava and fodders. The country also exports cow horns and some fish products.

On average, Dr Abbasi said, Tanzania exports to Beijing agro-products worth 145 million US dollars a year and the figures are rising fast.

Tanzania remains one of the countries that have benefited the most from receiving Chinese aid through the China-Africa Cooperation Forum (FOCAC).

In the first term of President Magufuli's regime, a total of 11 projects have been implemented through FOCAC.

The projects include construction of the Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation in Dar es Salaam, construction of the University of Dar es Salaam Library, construction of two Unguja and Pemba Water Projects; expansion of Abdalla Mzee Hospital in Pemba as well as the construction of doctors' houses.

Other projects include renovation of Mao Tse-Tung Stadium in Unguja, construction and maintenance of the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, rehabilitation of Moshi Police College and construction of Kagera Technical College.

China also has a number of projects present under feasibility study. The projects include construction of Mwalimu Nyerere Agricultural University, University of Transport (NIT) and expansion of Jakaya Kikwete Heart Institute (JKCI) as well as construction of Ngorongoro Geopark.

In the education sector, he said, China increased the number of scholarships to study in China. In 2015-2020, a total of 500 Tanzanians had access to long-term training and 1,029 received short-term training in China.

Wang Yi’s Busy Day in Kinshasa

On the second stop of his weeklong Africa tour, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi spent a very busy day on Wednesday in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where he met with President Félix Tshisekedi and Foreign Minister Marie Tumba Nzeza.

The breadth of Wang’s talks with Congolese stakeholders highlights the growing importance of the Central African country in Beijing’s broader African engagement strategy. The two sides agreed on a modest debt relief package, enlisting Beijing’s support for the withdrawal of UN forces in the country and signed an MoU for the DRC to become the 45th African country to join the Belt and Road Initiative.

China’s newfound enthusiasm to engage the Congolese government may be motivated in part by President Tshisekedi’s recent rapprochement with the United States. Just before Christmas last year, Kinshasa rejoined the African Growth and Opportunity Act, known as AGOA, which allows for duty-free access to the U.S. market and the two countries also resumed military ties.

Both the U.S. and China also view access to the Congo’s abundant mineral reserves, especially cobalt, as strategically vital. Cobalt is an essential ingredient in batteries used in electric vehicles and other electronic devices. Last year, China began stockpiling the mineral and expanding its already-dominant presence in the Congolese cobalt mining sector.

Wang will spend Thursday in Botswana, Friday in Tanzania, and then return to China on Saturday from The Seychelles.

MHE.

What is the overlord clause?

I don't think so.

Narudia kusema kwamba Serikali yetu ingeweza kumtuma Mh. Hammed Salimu Hammed

Ni nani huyu jamaa uliyemtaja mara kadhaa ktk comment yako yenye ushauri murua kwa majina haya Mh. Hammed Salimu Hammed
