Industrial spies nk.
Sorry about the late reply, I have been too busy.
We Kenyans do not bear any resentments toward Tanzania or any other country for that matter; not even against the countries we feel are potential threat to us. Example, Kenya is not certain if Somalia has really abandoned its past irredentist policies, but here we are helping reset the state of lawlessness in that country, historical enmity aside.
In the dark years of the cold war betwn Kenya and Tanzania, Tanzanians living in Kenya were not harassed, unlike in Tanzania where Kenyans were often harassed, some even deported all bcos that chasmic east-west ideological nonsense.
Kweli kuna walakini katika elimu yetu, but it is not the walakini of inspiring hate, fear and suspicions against other pipo or countries. Ours is an education that attempts to impart the spirit of tolerance and an open-minded interpretation of issues like conflicts. For example, I mentioned the Sommalia irredentism above; our school history books merely outline the background and context of the whole disagreements betwn Kenya and Somalia. But regarding who was on the wrong or right side of that argument is left for the readers to discern. So are the past Kenyan-Tanzanian disputes.
May I inform u that Tanzanian historical figures such as Nyerere, Kambona and Abeid Karume are talked about in glowing terms in the Kenyan history books.
If the colonialists based in Kenya were plundering your resources, kindly understand that it was not meant for the benefit of the Africans in Kenya. If there were any benefits, then we can say it was peripheral. Also u should understand that during the colonial era in Kenya, schools and hospitals intended for Africans were few and far apart and mostly of inferior quality compared to the European or Asian schools.
But Tanzania was indirectly ruled, meaning the level of oppression against the Africans there was not at all as severe as it was in Kenya, Zimbabwe or SA.
Tanzania's past efforts to liberate the countries still under the york of colonialism is laudable. However, truth be told, it wasnt the factor that led to Msumbiji, Zimbabwe, Angola,SA winning their independence. It was rather a combination of some external factors that forced the end of the minority rule in those countries. Ie the thaw in the cold war, the global economic crisis and in Angola and Msumbiji's case, the Portugal political crisis of the 1970s.
Finally, your musings about surpassing us "soon" is rather amusing. It appears that this is the preoccupation of every Tanzanian- overtaking Kenya. But "soon" it would happen if only Kenya decides to remain stagnant and wait for u to catch up.
Everything Tanzania is rushedly doing now in order to develop its economy......from inviting foreign investments; constructing tall skyscrapers; broad, elevated highways; expansion of modernization of airports and seaports.......they are all duplications of the things Kenya has already achieved. To many Kenyans, the only veritable rival is Ethiopia, nobody here even ever gives Tanzania a thought.
For a very long time, Tanzania will continue playing the second fiddle in the region.
