Experienced journalist and public affairs analyst Chuks Ohuegbe has come forward to respond to the ousted President's comments regarding his treatment by the detaining soldiers under Mohammed Bazoum's prolonged arrest by the military junta that has taken control of the Niger Republic.

According to The TRIBUNE, Bazoum told a friend through text that he was being forced to eat just plain, uncooked rice while being kept in isolation.

The deposed president of the Niger Republic expressed his displeasure in this communication, which CNN also picked up on, over the lack of human contact since Friday and the absence of any provisions for food or medicine. He revealed going without electricity for a week as a result of Nigeria, a neighbor, cutting off the power in reaction to the ongoing sanctions against the military regime.

The Pilot Newspaper's Director of Publications, Ohuegbe, shared his opinion in an August 10 interview on the 'Kaakaki' show of Africa Independent Television. While the military takeover is strongly condemned, he claimed that Bazoum's recent struggle is a reflection of the terrible realities faced by the country's destitute people.

Consider the account of the ousted president of the Niger Republic, who mentions eating uncooked rice, Ohuegbe said. He is currently going through similar things as regular people. These are the topics we have been talking about. Although the Niger Republic coup is abhorrent, it seems the populace now has leaders with whom they can identify. The essence of existence is captured in this.

In his analysis, Ohuegbe called attention to the similarity between the current struggles of the deposed President and the problems that ordinary people deal with every day. While the coup itself is regrettable, he made the point that it has unintentionally brought the leaders and the people together by providing them with a shared experience that captures the essence of life.

Waliwahi taka kupitisha bomba pale Syria toka Qatar, Putin akatumbukia jumla kikawaka, hawakupitisha.

I wish our leaders (current and past) should be made to experience what we, walala hoi, have been experiencing for the past 62 years.

Tatizo la Afrika ni moja. Huenda limeanzia rohoni.
