3-1:Footballing masterclass against Barcelona

Satellite

Aspectacular reaction after going a goal behind with the game just started, a crowd fully behind its team, three goals and a footballing masterclass. They were the main talking points as Real Madrid overcame Barcelona by orchestrating a stunning ninth straight win. The encounter got off to an exciting and relentless start, with the home side forced to come back from behind. Neymar put Barcelona in front in the fourth minute, finishing off the away team's first threat on goal, but the Whites did not throw in the towel. After that moment the home side began a 15-minute spell of dominance during which they deserved to level the scoreline at the very least.

They were denied a rub of the green in the 11'. In the space of ten seconds Benzema headed the ball onto the crossbar and then followed it up with a rocket shot that smashed off the post. That was not to be his only attempt on goal. There was no let up and, after a fantastic Casillas save that denied Messi scoring into an open net in the 23', Barcelona tried to hold onto possession. They managed to do so for a while until one of Marcelo's countless runs up the left wing ended with the Brazilian sending a cross towards the penalty area in the 35' which Piqué, sliding on the ground, blocked with his hand. Cristiano Ronaldo converted the resulting penalty by sending Bravo the wrong way to equalise.

The half-time break came at 1-1, although the scoreline could have been different. After 44', James switched the play, Marcelo controlled and crossed the ball, and the Colombian, unmarked in the box, sent his header centimetres wide of the visitors' goal. While Barcelona had gone ahead after four minutes of the kick off, the roles were reversed in the second half when Real Madrid took the lead on 50'. Kroos delivered a corner kick and Pepe, rising imperiously, hit the mark with a header.

Third goal for Benzema in the last two matches
The match had changed, and even more so when the hosts' third arrived. The move began with a corner for the guests. The effort and faith shown by Isco, vying with two opposition players to chase down possession on 61', allowed him to win back a ball that had been given up for lost by everyone and begin a stunning counter-attack that was finished off by Benzema following a wonderful assist from James. The Whites again showed that no other team in the world has mastered this footballing art in the manner that they have.

Barcelona were undone, and further counters for Real Madrid did not bear fruit because Mascherano proved the away side's best player. An indisputable victory for the Whites and a footballing masterclass to end a week that will live long in the memory in the wake of comprehensive triumphs over Liverpool and Barcelona. Real Madrid roll on and on.

Pepe: "We want to give the fans plenty to shout about".

Satellite

"The fans were incredible", said Marcelo.

Pepe was to the fore in the match against Barcelona as his goal made it 2-1. The defender highlighted the attitude of his team-mates during the match: "The most important thing was the work we put in as a team. We executed it really well. We conceded an early goal but we had the strong, winning mentality to change the course of the game. We reacted well and we controlled the match. We deserved to win."

"We are full of hunger and we want to do well to give the fans plenty to shout about. Since yesterday, when we dropped our cars off at the Bernabéu, the fans have supported us at all times and have been important. Coming out of Valdebebas this afternoon, there were people cheering us and at the stadium the fans were always right behind us. We have to thank them for that."

Marcelo: "The secret was running and fighting"
"We know that they wanted the ball, but we fought hard and we ended up with possession of the ball and control of the match. We played very well. The secret was running and fighting. Hard work."

"The fans were incredible. A lot of people were also outside the stadium supporting us. We know that the matches against Barcelona are difficult. They scored early, but we had done our homework and we managed to get more possession of the ball. It's three points and we have got closer in the table."

Control
"They scored early, but we had done our homework and we managed to get more possession of the ball. It's three points and we have got closer in the table."

Run of form
"We're in really good form. We have to improve a few little things, but the coaching staff are doing a really good job. I think that defence begins with the forwards and it helps, because the opponents almost have nothing left in the tank when they attack us. We've got the three points, which was the important thing.

Ramos: "The scoreline is fare".

Satellite

Sergio Ramos was in the starting eleven in the victory over Barcelona and at the end of the game he expressed his joy: "It's just three points but an encounter with Barcelona is different. We took a big step forward by winning and doing so in the manner we did, with a great deal of sacrifice and hard work. It was a Real Madrid that controlled possession a lot and read the phases of the game well. The scoreline is fair".

"We won with a lot of authority. Normally we use the counter-attacks to hurt a team like Barcelona but today we were able to move up into the opposition half and keep the ball, which is when they suffered most. It was a very big effort by the team and we're going home happy to have closed the gap and won in this way".

"We had a clear idea that we wanted to dominate the match. Today was a day to enjoy and things happened for us. It was a pretty complete game by us. They're not used to being dominated and we hurt them".

Casillas and Isco
"I'm not surprised by the saves Casillas made. He's an insurance policy for us. Players like Isco should be congratulated, they have been getting less game time and whenever they go on they make the most of it. Isco is a unique player and his brilliance and magic is great for us".

Fans
"It has been an unforgettable day, of the kind that stays with you. From the first moment on the bus, the expectation was huge. We want to thank the fans for their affection and what they transmitted to us. We're happy that we can offer this victory to the supporters".

Carvajal: "We have come out stronger"
"After Barcelona's goal we thought we couldn't let the game get away from us, and it didn't. Matches go through many phases. We're a team that also likes to control possession and there were moments when we took it from Barcelona".

"In the end we were comfortable playing on the counter-attack, because they left spaces. We have come out stronger from this game and on Wednesday we head to the Cornellà. Today was just three points and let's get on with it".

How the world's press viewd Real Madrid's Victory

Satellite

al Madrid took victory in the first Clásico of the season after a great performance at the Santiago Bernabéu. The win has captured the attention of both the Spanish press and the foreign media, who have stressed the power of the team coached by Carlo Ancelotti.

Marca describes Ancelotti's players as "Unstoppable" and in its digital edition talks of a "Homage to football". The publication also makes reference to the physical and mental strength of the Whites, who came back from the concession of an early Barcelona goal. "Real Madrid recovered from a Neymar goal in the 3rd minute to win deservedly with goals from CR7, Pepe and Benzema".

Meanwhile, As leads with the headline "That's how Madrid win" in its print edition, while its digital version highlights that the Whites have given Luis Enrique's Barcelona a "complex".

El Mundo, which has Madrid's victory on its opening page, says: "A terrific Real Madrid sweep aside Luis Enrique's Barcelona". And it goes on: "They came back from 0-1 with excellent displays from Isco, Modric and Benzema with the Bernabéu right behind its team".

El País, with a photo of Benzema, Isco and Pepe, goes with the headline: "Real Madrid impose their total football". ABC dedicates its front page to the Whites with an image of Pepe's celebration, accompanied by an emphatic: "Real Madrid strike down Barça". La Razón talks of a "Real masterclass".

The German media was full of praise for the Whites' triumph. Sport Bild asks "Where was Messi?" and talks of Real Madrid's "capture" of Barcelona, adding that Madrid "were clear winners" in the Clásico.

England
The British press highlighted the manner in which Suárez's debut was put in the shade. The Telegraph says: "Luis Suarez return and debut overshadowed as Karim Benzema wraps up win. Neymar scored early on but goals from Ronaldo, Pepe and Benzema spoil striker's return from four-month ban". Meanwhile, The Times gives the Frenchman top billing: "Karim Benzema shines brightest in a galaxy of stars".

Rest of Europe
In France, L'Equipe praises Real Madrid's performance and says: "They can jump for joy. Despite conceding the first goal, Real Madrid had the measure of Barcelona (3-1) at the Santiago Bernabéu with goals from Ronaldo, Pepe and Benzema. This victory in the Clásico, which had eluded them last season, leaves Madrid one point off Barça."

In Italy, the main sports daily, La Gazzetta dello Sport, runs with the headline: "Real Symphony in the Clásico. ¡What a masterclass Barça were given! Los Blancos are a point away from the Blaugranas in the table". In Portugal, the focus is on the players. Récord talks of the fact that "the Portuguese players took control of the Clásico. Cristiano Ronaldo and Pepe played again and were decisive in the Merengue win".

Latin America
Argentine newpaper Olé leads with: "They danced a Merengue. Real Madrid provided the music in the Spanish Clásico and swept away a weak Barcelona 3-1". In Brazil, the home country of Barcelona's goalscorer, Globoesporte states: "Neymar opened the scoring, but CR7 and company brought an end to Barcelona's clean sheet run".

In Mexico, Televisa Deportes leaves nodoby in any doubt: "They shredded the unbeaten Culés. With goals from Ronaldo, Pepe and Benzema, and Neymar in reply, Real Madrid beat Barcelona 3-1 in La Liga".

Karim Benzema scored in four consecutive matches

Satellite

The forward has scored six goals since playing against Lugorets.

Karim Benzema closed the scoring in the victory against Barcelona and has now found the net in four matches on the trot. The striker has had an outstanding October and has scored six goals since playing against Ludogorets. His goal against the Bulgarians was followed by braces against Athletic and Liverpool and now the one against the Azulgranas.

This season Benzema has scored eight goals and his record of consecutive matches finding the net with Real Madrid is firmly in his sights. The forward managed to score in four games in a row in March 2011. On his current run, Benzema has scored three goals in the first half and another three in the second.

His other goals this season
Benzema's haul this season is completed with his strikes against Córdoba and Basel. The striker has been particularly potent in competition debuts, scoring the Whites' first goal in this La Liga and finding the net in their first Champions League clash.

James and Kroos's decisive passes

Both players provided assists in the Levante, Liverpool and Barcelona games.

They joined during the summer to add further reinforcement to the European champions. In the space of just two months they have won over the Madrid supporters. James Rodríguez and Toni Kroos have been decisive during the team's last three games, with both men setting up goals in the wins over Levante, Liverpool and Barcelona.

In Ciudad de Valencia, James provided the assist for Chicharito to score the second goal and then got on the end of a Kroos pass to get the fourth. In Anfield, Cristiano opened the scoring after the Colombian found him with a fantastic pass, while the German swung in the cross that set up Benzema for the second. Finally, against Barcelona Kroos took the corner that Pepe finished off with a header and James played Benzema through for what proved to be the killer goal.

They were awarded with the Best Player, Best Forward and Best Individual Goal, Best Defender, Best Midfielder and Best Goalkeeper awards respectively for the 2013-14 Liga BBVA season.

Christiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, Luka Modric and Keylor Navas picked up awards from the Liga de Fútbol Profesionalfor Best Player and Best Forward, Best Defender, Best Midfielder and Best Goalkeeper respectively for the 2013-14 Liga BBVA season. During the ceremony, which was held in the Auditorium hotel in Madrid, the Portuguese player was also awarded with the gong for Best La Liga Goal for 2013-14 for his acrobaticback-heeled volley against Valencia in the Santiago Bernabéu.

Keylor Navas made the most saves last season and played a big hand in ensuring that Levante conceded the fifth fewest goals of all the teams in the division, only trailing behind the four sides that qualified for this season's European Cup. He beat Courtois and Caballero in the voting.

"It is an honour to be here. Hopefully in the future I will be able to attend another ceremony like this. Awards help to confirm that you are on the right path and to inspire you to keep working. This is a spectacular team and we are very happy with the work we are doing. As footballers we always want to win, it is important to have that mentality. You have to fight for everything with Real Madrid".

Ramos: "Without my team-mates this wouldn't have been possible"
Sergio Ramos, who held onto the award he won for the 2012/13 season, played 32 games last year and scored 4 goals. The Real Madrid vice captain finished ahead of Filipe Luis and Miranda in the voting.

"The ceremony was phenomenal. This recognition is a bonus that inspires you to keep working for the future. It gives me great pride to be here again to collect this award. I want to thank my team-mates because without them this wouldn't have been possible. The important thing is team work. I would like to offer my condolences to the family of Pepe García Carpintero, a great professional and great journalist".

Modric: "My team-mates at Madrid have helped me to grow"
The gong for outstanding midfielder went to Luka Modric, who made 34 Liga BBVA appearances last season and saw off Gabi and Busquets in the voting to win: "I am very happy. I would like to thank everyone who voted for me as well as my Real Madrid team-mates, who have helped me to grow as a player. I want to thank the Real Madrid fans as well, they are very important to me".

Three awards for Cristiano Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo, who received his Best Forward award from his team-mate James, was the top marksman during last season's La Liga campaign, notching up 31 goals in 30 games. This tally also saw him pick up his third Golden Boot award. He saw off the challenge of Diego Costa and Carlos Vela in the voting.

He was bestowed with the Best La Liga Player award and, on top of that, his back-heeled volley against Valencia in the Santiago Bernabéu saw him win the Best Liga BBVA Goal for 2013-14. The Portuguese man's strike beat Messi's goal against Almería and Giovanni's against Valencia.

Ronaldo: "This is the best moment of my career"
"I am very proud to be here and win these awards. I would like to thank my team-mates, the institution that is Real Madrid, my fans, my girlfriend and all the people who voted for me. This is the best moment of my career and I'm enjoying myself on the pitch".

"We all like to win individual awards. It was a wonderful night. I am delighted to have won the awards and I will keep them in my trophy museum in Madeira".
