Ruto, Raila In Twitter Wrangle Over Suspension Of 'Cherera Four' IEBC Commissioners

President William Ruto and Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga have taken to social media to express their disagreement on the removal of four commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

In a tweet on Sunday, Ruto reaffirmed his decision to suspend the ‘ Cherera Four’ and the formation of a tribunal to investigate their conduct during the August 2022 election.

He further slammed the Raila for planning public rallies to protest the suspension of IEBC commissioners Juliana Cherera, Justus Nyang’aya, Irene Masit and Francis Wanderi.

“Even with the system/deep state you lost the election. Stop deluding yourself & lying.the coup to overturn the people's will using rogue commissioners, you are now threatening us with maandamano about, failed. Their guilt or innocence will be determined by tribunal. Rule of law it is,” Ruto told Raila in a tweet.

Hours later, Raila responded with a video of Ruto disapproving the results of the 2007 General Election, where former President Mwai Kibaki was declared the winner by the electoral commission.

“Usijifanye leo hii kwamba umesahau (do not pretend today that you have forgotten) when the shoe was firmly on the other foot. Let me just leave this here,” Raila wrote in a tweet.

As a tribunal led by Justice Aggrey Muchelule sets stage to begin investigations on the conduct of the four IEBC commissioners, Raila has announced two public rallies to be held on December 7 and December 12.

“On December 7, at Kamukunji Grounds in Nairobi, we'll launch public consultations with the people of Kenya to brainstorm on the direction the country is taking. We will return to the same venue on December 12 to continue with these consultations on the state of our nation,” Raila said.
