SGR Construction in Tanzania - UPDATES

Kenyan economy is in toilet.. Dr Ndii is preaching this but Uhuruto are beyond listening to reason due to corruption and selfishness.

..SGR ikikamilika itasaidia bandari ya Dsm kushindana na bandari ya Mombasa.

..Rwanda, DRC, na Burundi, watakuwa ni wateja wa Dsm port. That is guaranteed.

..There will be a stiff competition btn Dsm and Mombasa kwa mizigo inayotoka na kuingia Uganda.

NB.

..sijasikia serekali ikizungumzia kipande cha Tabora to Kigoma kwenye mradi wa sgr.

Looks like transhipment is the next big thing, Withe the expanded Mombasa port (with a capacity of 1.6TEU against demand of 1.1million TEU) Mombasa port has been looking for other business, Msa is literally stealing other regional ports Cargo.
International shipping lines (who decode which cost effective route your container will use) prefere cargo be dropped in Mombasa then taken to smaller regional ports by smaller ships, because Msa port has capacity, is more efficient..

Some of the changes the committee has spearheaded include removal of the transhipment bond and permit which has simplified the cargo transfer process. Shipping line agents can also now access transhipment entries, enabling shipping lines to sub-contract the services to a clearing and forwarding agent to process transhipment entries on their behalf.

The port has also set aside areas in the port for stacking transhipment containers, which has eliminated physical identification of containers and adoption of online releases for transhipment cargo.

Latest reports indicate that quite a significant number of shippers now prefer to route Zanzibar cargo through Mombasa. Other interests for having Mombasa as the port of preference have also been expressed by shippers from Mogadishu, according to a recent report by KPA.Mombasa eyes transhipment business after port upgrade

There is no way Kenya can compete with Tanzania on this due to the fact that geography favors Tanzania, now electric SGR which by far will be cheaper and faster compared to Kenya, and because it will be connecting Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi and indirectly eastern DRC, Kenya's ports will terribly be negatively affected.
