CHAPTER 6

SHADOWS OF WATER

The hunt was fierce than I expected! the very same day after I left Kinjekitile, I met foreigners travelling with a cross as if praising it. At first I wanted to go head-on and kill them all but something just told me to stay put.

“Why are they carrying that huge stick (the cross)?” I asked myself as I followed them from the bushes that provided me with some much needed cover.

Because if it was not for the bushes, I would have been noticed and then shot down dead since behind them were men holding rifles. I was very thankful that I listened to my instincts.

They numbered about twenty of them. The ones who were leading the march wore huge white clothes that covered up to their heads. And about ten more were protecting them with the rifles.

They were singing but I did not understand what they were singing so I just watched them. Since the night was approaching, I decided to wait it out and do a surprise attack.

When the night was over my head and there was totally nothing that could see, the foreigners made camp on an area that had few bushes and was wide enough to accommodate their tents.

They lit a bonfire and sat down near it, took out utensils that were very unfamiliar to me and started cooking. Of course, my curiosity did not get the best of me even though the smell of their food was very mouth-wetting.

I kept on watching them until they started heading inside their tents and a few of them especially the ones holding rifles remained outside.

It was perfect. I sat down on the bushes and let my energy cover my body. Doing this helped me hide my presence. Well, I was thankful to Kinjekitile for teaching me this technique since it was the very same one that he used in the past when he appeared inside the hat of Lady Gumbiro.

In a way it is similar to that but not completely since what he did back then was a total change in positions in an instant. If I am to compare with one of the skills he held, I’d probably say it is similar to the one he used to get inside the hat of Lady Gumbiro, not the one where he completely vanished and reappeared at the door.

“I wish I slept earlier. These priests are very tiring!” one of the guards said to his friend who was sitting outside the tents. “I mean like seriously! Do you think these baboons will even understand who Christ is? It’s a total waste of time!”

“Shh! Don’t say that!” the other one replied tried to make his friend stop talking. “If they hear you, they’ll report you to the higher-ups and you’ll lose your job. Don’t you see how much we get paid? I just miss my wife back in Europe!” with a smile he said as he looked at the night sky.

“The stars here are totally arranged different from the ones back home don’t you think?” his question was met with a silence as if he was alone! “Hey!” And before he knew it, he was alone.

“Where did you go?” he asked but didn’t get a reply, so he started to walk towards the back of the tent.

“Hey! Hey… …. Mhf … Mhf!” I did not let a sound come out of his mouth as I strangled him from the back till he passed out. Just to make sure he will never wake up, I stabbed him with my blade through his heart. I do not know why but it felt very satisfying!

Since the light inside the tent they were guarding was still on, I knew that there was probably someone inside!

“Is it one or two?” It was probably two and they were probably a man and a woman since their figures were moving as shadows from outside and the mourning sounds they were making were upsetting my conscious.

I decided to pick up the two rifles and hanged them on my back. They will be my last resort since I am not as proficient on using them as these people. “Let’s kill these two people first! They are making weird noises that are disturbing to hear!”

I moved closer to the tent, made a cut through it that would allow me to enter in without them knowing and managed to penetrate through it but what they were doing was shocking.

The man was lying down on the bed that was like a mat on the ground with his huge gown risen up to his stomach and the woman who had a cloth that was black covering her hair (probably a nun) was on top of him.

“Are they…! Are they having sex!?” I understand now why the mourns where very displeasing in my head because instead of noticing their presence, I started remembering my dear dead wife and it was very maddening.

“You destroyed my village, you killed my people, you took my father and you also killed my wife! YOU KILLED MY DAMN WIFE!” I couldn’t hold in my anger after I shouted with that roar and before I knew it, I was in a berserk state.

The blade I was holding in my right hand felt so light that the two who were suddenly in shock trying to leave the room after they came to see me standing just beside them were in small pieces. Blood splat all over that the white tent turned red.

The madness that befell me had put me in a transition. I knew what I was doing but I just let my body do it for me. Their intestines flew off from their bodies like water and their heads detached like waatermelons.

“It’s an attack! Everyone get out of your tents! Hurry!!” I heard the voice of one of the men outside but I just didn’t care since the invincibility I was feeling due to my berserk state was very reassuring. I wasn’t even understanding what he was saying.

My light green energy that I had covering my body turned dark red. The rifles I was carrying behind my back just felt like burdens so I removed them and threw them down.

“Whoever you are, come out and face retribution for killing the priest!” he kept on shouting. I knew that he was talking to me but just to make sure, I picked up the heads of the man and the woman who died with their eyes open and threw them outside.

The next thing that came into my ears were screams that covered the whole night! Those screams triggered something inside of me and I started feeling pleasure towards it.

“Co… Come… Come out now….!!!” He said again but the screams did not subdue and cries started.

I DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE SAYING BUT I LIKE YOUR SCREAMS!

I heard myself saying as I started walking towards the door leading out of the tent.

LET ME HEAR THEM MORE!”

“Shoot at him! SHOOT HIM DEAD!!” He kept on shouting and the rifles that were already pointed towards me immediately after I got out of the tent were fired.

The bullets were probably hitting me but I did not feel the pain. ‘It’s probably because of the energy’ I thought to myself standing outside of the tent my body being moved by the shock impact of the bullets.

“HOO! IS THAT ALL!!!?” I asked but since they did not understand and since they were all in extreme shock of why I was not dead, they started shivering.

The men who were holding the rifles felt as if the rifles got heavier than usual since they dropped them and stood there staring at me. The women wearing clothes on their heads were in awe, tears dripping down their chicks.

“Im… impossible! This is impossible! LORD JESUS!” They started shouting again and as they saw me approaching them with my blade in my hand, they started falling down the ground, feeling fear as if the devil befell them!

“DEAR GOD, PLEASE SAVE US!!!” They started shouting again but this time some of them started crawling off the ground trying to run away from me, screaming as loud as their lungs could hold. It was not the men, nor the women, they all started running around, headless chicken would be an over-exaggeration to describe them.

“YES!!! YES!!!! JUST LIKE THAT!!!” I said to them. An ominous smile was on my face but I liked it. it was very satisfying seeing them in fear.

“WHEN YOUR PEOPLE CAME TO MASSACRE MY VILLAGE, DID YOU NOT SEE THIS COMING?”

Then my blade swung with the head of the first man standing in front of me. The blood that was flowing off of his headless body splat all over me and it was nourishing.

My blade just felt like it was to chop at least his arms and legs to feel good so I did. I sliced his hands off of his headless body, tore off his legs and cut through his stomach. It was nice. I liked it!

Then I went to the next one and the next one and the next until all of their bodies had neither their limbs nor their intestines nor their spines. It was very satiating doing so.

I followed all of the others who tried to escape me and killed them too until my body was covered in blood. Some of them tried to resist by using their guns but when they saw that the bullets just made me move a little bit back no matter where they shot, they gave up and accepted their fate shouting the name of their Lord!

“Please do not kill me! Please spare me! Lord Jesus! Lord Jesus! Lord Jesus Lord!” The last of the men who escaped shouted out loud at me with tears and a trembling voice.

DO NOT TURNISH THE NAME OF YOUR LORD. WHOEVER YOUR LORD IS, I DOUBT IF HE AGREED WITH YOUR PEOPLE KILLING MY PEOPLE FOR FUN!

I said to him and looked at him. That moment of silence that was between us felt like a lion was playing with its food. “DIE!!!” I sliced him in half from his right shoulder to his left foot and watched as his insides splat out of his body.

YOU SHOULD HAVE NEVER STEPPED FOOT IN OUR LANDS!” I said to that dead body that was in two and decided to walk back to their camp. My body was in full red. Blood was still flowing down my muscles as if water was washing me.

Slowly, my berserk state died out and my energy evaporated out of me and turned back to its color. Immediately after my muscles started throbbing as if they were being torn apart one by one.

The pain was too immense that I couldn’t handle it and fainted on the spot, lying there with organs all over the entire place with the bonfire slowly dying down since the blood that fell into it was too much to keep it burning.

I was asleep for the whole night and morning and I woke up after the sun begun burning like scorching hot. Flies started covering the area and the stinking smell of rotting meat started covering the air.

I decided to find if they had water, and after I found it, I washed off the dried blood off my body and my blade until I was clean as new. My cloth was no longer wearable since it itself was as red as the blood it drank. I decided to go through the things that these people had with them.

I found their clothes and decided to tore them and change their design since I was not comfortable wearing like the foreigners even though Kinjekitile taught us how to wear them. So the gowns that some of the men wore, I turned them into the design that Kinjekitile used to wear perfectly.

After that, I picked some things like bottles that could hold drinking water and some foods that were still edible. I left that camp and did not bother to bury them nor do anything. I walked away from that camp and headed north.

Since the areas there was not very familiar anymore, I decided to wonder a little more around until the night befell me.

The next morning after I took enough rest, I started another journey around the direction that had a bonfire last night. I decided not to go to it during the night since I wanted to recover enough strength and energy to face the foreigners if it so happened it was them.

After cautiously approaching the place, I realized that it was a village but sadly, the foreigners had already started raiding it. the shouts that were going out of it and the gunfire that were echoing throughout were quite a lot.

“It is possible that the foreigners this time are all fighters. Let me get closer! If I am to save the people, I need to know their numbers!” I said to myself and slowly pulled out my blade and held it tight in my hand as I started moving nearer to one of the hats.

“They are too many!” I said to myself as my eyes befell the foreigners suppressing the villagers who were struggling with their bows and arrows that missed and spears that barely killed any of the foreigners before their wielders fell.

The women were being beaten like dogs, dragging them by the hair and pulling them while laughing to their cries. The elders were placed in a line and were shot down and the foreigners laughing out loud giving each other cheers after that.

It was exasperating to see this. Some of the men who were not fighting were placed together like lamps of tomatoes and forced not to move while the women that were pregnant or sick were stabbed with knives that glowed sharpness.

The other women were forced inside the hats and were rapped. Their shouts reminded me of my dead wife but I tried to stop myself from going berserk since this time I might not be able to handle all of them. So I decided to wait the night.

But as I was waiting and the sun was not even close to set, one of the foreigners came towards the man who I assumed to be their leader panting out heavily saying something to him. I was far but I knew that something happened since he was pointing on the direction that the camp I massacred was.

The leader seemed shocked since he got off his seat in a hurry and shouted. After that, his men who were all around the village came to him and lined in an orderly manner. He gave them some instructions and they divided themselves into two groups.

After that, some of them started to leave with him going towards the direction of the massacred camp and the rest whom I counted to be approximately about twenty remained and spread out the entire village.

It was perfect. Since their number reduced, I could take them head on with no worries. I waited for some minutes to make sure that the men who left couldn’t hear the gunfire after the battle begins.

When I was sure that there was no way they would hear, I picked up my blade and walked towards the men who were tied up and held under the three men guarding them.

“Hey! Look at him!” one of the villagers who managed to see me said to his fellow prisoners who had dried lips that started to have cracks and pointed them to me.

I showed to them hand signs telling them not to alert the foreigners as I slowly approached them. After I was as close to one of the foreigners holding a rifle, I jumped onto him and cut his throat as slowly as possible to make sure he felt the pain.

“ENEMY ATTACK!!!!” The others shouted after they saw one of their comrade struggling with his hands on his neck bleeding out. Before they managed to spot me, I covered my body in my energy and walked towards them in a fast speed and after I cut the throat the one closest to me in his skull, I moved to the other one and stabbed him so much that holes were all over his body.

“Since they have been alerted, untie everyone else, go take the women and leave!” I said to the men who stood up in a hurry after I untied them as quickly as possible.

“What about you?” one of them asked as the others started to go to the hats where the women were placed after being raped.

“I have a personal grudge against them! You don’t have to worry about me.” I said to him and forced him to leave towards the others.

But this escape was not as easy as I expected. The foreigners started shooting at the men who were going towards the hats to save the women.

“GO! DON’T LOOK BACK!” I shouted to them and as the foreigners were reloading their rifles I used that opportunity and as fast as their eyes could see, their legs flew off, their hands fell off, and the remaining ones tried to run.

After I made sure that the villagers had left, I first went after the foreigners who tried to run and killed them by removing their insides and dissecting them up on top of trees.

I came back to the village and before I killed the ones with no legs and the ones with no arms, I decided to do something that I knew would provoke their leader once he came back.

I stripped them naked, and cut off their dicks and then I sliced up their stomachs and made sure that their lungs and hearts were out.

I burned down the whole village and burned down the corpses of the elders and the villagers who died earlier and after that, I left and went to meet up with the villagers.

“We will not light up the fire tonight.” I said to them after they had chosen their leader and the night was already on top of our heads.

“Why not?” They asked as we stared at each other in that darkness.

“the foreigners and their leader will probably be searching for us since I left a gift for them after I avenged your village!” I said to them and as if I triggered sadness that was in them, they started to thank me with tears and trembling voices.

“It’s okay!” I said to them after they calmed down. “Since we already have a good place to rest for the night, let’s rest here. We have to hold on with our hunger.”

I knew they we hungry since I was hungry too and the food I had carried from the camp I massacred was shared to them earlier after we met.

“We will do rotation on watching out so that we all rest! Is that okay?” I asked the men who were standing with me! And they agreed.

I took the first watch since I had the most energy. After my shift was over, I covered the entire area with my energy. It helped me keep surveillance up even if I was asleep.

The next morning, I gave them directions and told them where they would meet with Kinjekitile. After they do, they have to mention my name and he will gladly take them in.

We took our ways and left. Since they gave me directions too of the next possible village, I decide to make it my destination but before that!

“Sir! The general has received the news.” One of the foreigners said out loud as he stood straight in front of the man who sat down while his subordinates were cleaning up the organs and dead bodies of their comrades.

“What did he say?” the man asked. His muscles were very tone that his clothes seemed small.

“He said that you should return back to HQ with the head of this man!” the man who was reporting was ordered to leave after he reported so.

“What is wrong with this East Region? There was a man called MKWAWA, even though we managed to subdue him but his powers were extremely supernatural.” He said to his bodyguard who was sitting next to him as he was thinking.

“That man was powerful. I remember he killed my brother!” the bodyguard replied with his fists tightening as he spoke. “I just wish I was the one to put that bullet in his skull!”

“Yeah! And now there is this one who slaughters our men as if he wants to cook them but then he spreads their intestines as if showcasing his capability!” he said with a frustrating face staring at how his men’s body parts were being carried around as if cow meat was getting cooked.

“Brother! Maybe he is not alone!” the bodyguard said.

“Yeah! I think so too! One man cannot do this alone. There are bullets all over the ground that means that some of his men died too, right?” As if giving hope to himself, he said but inside his heart, there was probably the doubt that the probability of all this being done by one man was high.

“I think they will probably come to find us!” the bodyguard said trying to make his boss calm down because the fear he was starting to show was building.

“Yes?”

“Yeah! I mean, look at how they displayed themselves! They killed the priests and the nuns by spreading out their bodies all over the place and they did that too to our men.

They probably sent a spy to look if we came back otherwise how did they find this village?”

“Yeah! That makes sense! Which means that whoever is doing surveillance has already reported back to them and they will be coming here, right?” the bodyguard was now sure that these words that his boss just said were full of anxiety and he was starting to panic.

He himself did not want to believe it but if these people who managed to kill their men and not only kill them but also chop them into pieces were to come back, he was not sure if he would not meet the same fate.

“SIR!! SIR!!” One of the men of this leader came to them shouting from the entrance of the village!

“What is it? Why are you shouting?” the leader stood up hurriedly replying back with anger.

“SIR!!! A BLACK MAN IS WALKING TOWARDS US!” These words made the leader and his bodyguard shiver since what they were just talking about with worry may be true.

“Is he alone!!?” the leader shouted back as he picked up his rifle and cocked it.

“Yes sir! And he is holding a machete sir!” the soldier replied after he reached where the leader was. The other soldiers stopped what they were doing and held up their rifles after they heard the man.

“Also sir! The clothes he is wearing are like the ones that the priests wore only they are torn!” more fear and anxiety penetrated the hearts.

Not only the leader and his bodyguard but also the other soldiers who saw everything from the camp to the village they were standing on.

A“WHO ARE YOU!?” The leader shouted after I entered the village. Him and his people were all standing in front of him as if warning me not to approach.

I did not understand what he said but I knew that he and his people were in fear since their hands were trembling.

‘Nice! Let me make them tremble more!’ I said in my head and slowly I raised my blade and looked at them as I licked it then smiled back at them. The fear they were feeling intensified.

And from that moment, they knew, they F*CKED UP!
