Russia’s Lancet kamikaze drone destroys Ukrainian armor with assault force in Kursk area

MOSCOW, January 16. /TASS/. Russian forces destroyed a Ukrainian infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) with an assault force by a Lancet kamikaze drone in the borderline Kursk Region, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported on Thursday.

"Air reconnaissance capabilities of a Battlegroup North unit uncovered an infantry fighting vehicle of the Ukrainian army in a border area of the Kursk Region. After an analysis of the reconnaissance data received, a decision was made to deliver a strike at the enemy IFV," the ministry said in a statement.

Having waited for an appropriate moment when the Ukrainian assault force boarded the infantry fighting vehicle, a Lancet loitering munition team of the Battlegroup North destroyed the enemy IFV together with the militants, accurately hitting the target, it said.

Ukrainian military commanders lose grip on situation near Krasnoarmeysk — journalist

MOSCOW, January 15. /TASS/. The General Headquarters and the Ukrainian commander-in-chief have lost their grip on the situation near Krasnoarmeysk (Ukrainian name Pokrovsk) in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Ukrainian journalist and former defense ministry adviser Yury Butusov said.

"The situation in Pokrovsk and Velikaya Novoselka has spun out of the Ukrainian military command’s control. Commanders of the Donetsk operational tactical group and the Khortitsa strategic group have lost their grip," he wrote on Telegram. "The General Headquarters and the Ukrainian commander-in-chief are showing an inability to influence what’s going on."

Butusov went on to say that Ukrainian infantry in the above-mentioned areas is sustaining significant losses in an apparent attempt to slow down Russian troops.

In his opinion, Ukrainian forces lack proper fortifications, as well as combat cohesion and planning, while their commanders are setting unrealistic goals.

"We are losing Pokrovsk in a shameful, irresponsible and incompetent way," the journalist wrote.

In Ukraine, criticism of Zelensky as commander-in-chief is not uncommon. Previously, Butusov said that Zelensky was incapable of making the simplest decisions regarding combat operations and should hand over day-to-day command to a competent body created at the Supreme Commander's Office. He also criticized him for pursuing inconsequential tasks while Ukrainian troops are deserting in large numbers.

Another mobilization not necessary, special op successful — Russian MP

MOSCOW, January 16. /TASS/. Russian forces in the special military operation zone are advancing in "dozens of directions," and scores of people are voluntarily signing up for the military, so there is no need to hold another mobilization wave, State Duma Defense Committee Chairman Andrey Kartapolov told TASS.

"Naturally, as of now, there is no need to hold a new mobilization wave. We continue with the special military operation, and it is progressing successfully, we are advancing in dozens of directions every day," he said. According to Kartapolov, the Russian Armed Forces are fully supplying the group in the special operation zone with everything necessary, including military personnel. "Daily, we have about 1,000 individuals voluntarily coming to military commissions to sign a contract," the lawmaker added.

Earlier, Kartapolov’s first deputy in the Defense Committee Andrey Zhuravlyov in a conversation with the Abzats internet media outlet noted that it is necessary to prepare the country’s men to defend their nation. A number of Telegram channels interpreted this remark as meaning that a new mobilization wave was coming.

"Zhuravlyov was talking about something else. He was saying that we all must be ready for what the future might hold, and it might hold anything. We clearly see what Europe is doing, it is actively switching to a war-time mode. We see what the future administration of Mr. Trump is doing, there are already calls to make Greenland and Canada part of the US. The world has changed and now it is indeed necessary to be ready for anything, which means, as the president noted yesterday at a meeting of the Pobeda organizing committee, that each one of us personally must do everything to keep our country strong, our army powerful, and our country the happiest," Kartapolov concluded.
