I'm just interested on whether this exercise will, in the end, prove its rationality and sustainability. That some of our neighbours have been strategically positioning themselves to occupy (with the apparent ultimate objective of laying claim to) parts of our land in the North West has been evident for years now. Our authorities, as usual, chose to either ignore or take haphazard and half-hearted actions against increasing tensions including banditry executed with military type weapons in those areas. Stories of corruption playing a big role in aggravating the state of affairs have been frequent. I even recall the Kagera RC, Col. Massawe, in one evening news bulletin, expressing astonishment at coming across three village chairmen who were illegals from a neighbouring country living and administering those villages "peacefully". This is the contextual background that pokes holes in the sincerity of the current government's aggressive move against the "illegals" in those areas - whether the operation is based on serious administration of government responsibility on matters of immigration or just an excuse to fix a neighbourhood menace. The government's action may be welcome, but cannot be commendable coming this late and prompted by a questionable motive.
