For you to be part of a crew of a commercial plane, you must have at least 5 years of flying... For you to become a first officer, you must have worked for at least 4 different employers, and when you become a first officer, you will move downwards and start flying small aircraft then work your way up until you are the 2nd in command flying the largest aircraft in the airline... After that is when you can become captain, and when you become captain, again you wont fly the largest aircraft right away.... That's why you ate advised that if you want to become captain of a big aircraft in your 30's you better start flying when you are 20 yrs old.


The youngest captain of a commercial airline is 26yrs old. She started flying at 13!
