Tanzania should push to be part of this Mpesa deal

ha ha "seldom buys locally developed software???" , the problem is that you only hear when people complain about a tender that has been given to a foreign company.

I can name dozens of software from Kenyan developers i personally know who have sold systems to the govt. I included.
The ICT industry in Kenya may not be at the class of the Chinese, Americans , Indians or Israelis ...but it's ages ahead of TZ.

Hate is one step away from being a witch bro.
Thats where you get it wrong, Tz does not compete with KE in ICT, They specialize on what they are good at just like UAE (oil&gas) and import the best of IT from developed countries.
Boss GoK budget for tech is 99% foreign 1% local. That shows you the level of confidence gok has in local expertise

That is according to you..you can feed your bias as much as you want to but that does not change facts.

Russia china and japan have the ability of manufacturing very good aircraft as evidenced by their high tech millitary aircraft industry but they choze not to compete in commercial aircraft but rather buy from the best (boeing/airbus) while they concentrate on what they are good at. That is the direction Tz is taking.

Very good analogy but wrong on facts..Russian have the
Sukhoi Superjet 100 and Irkut MC-21

The chinese have

But point is home nevertheless.

Go and see the inventory of Russian airlines eg earoflot or chinese airlines like China Air etc 99% boeing or airbus with massive orders at hand
Yes they have Sukhoi, but most of Commercial planes in Russia and China still are boing and Airbus, make share of Sukhoi is still very small in both countries.

Yes they use Boeing and Airbus in their fleets but China is aggressively developing their own, maybe in 20yrs they will start exclusively using them. The biggest problems they are facing is that their jet engines are not yet near American and European, even after copying them piece by piece..

For the Russians,it has been an issue with funding, before the collapse of the USSR,they had commercial airliners, but have lagged behind.

My point is that tech is not a spectator sport. you have to be working on something, even if others call it 3rd rate. In the 90s chinese manufactured goods were considered lowest quality. look at them now.

African nations have to start working on whatever they can lay their hands on, otherwise we will be left to far back to catch up.
An example i like giving is Processor and Chip fabrication, we have been left to far back , i don't know where we would even start.

We cannot just rely on minerals.

No one is relying on minerals, but Tz cannot stoop down and use 3rd rate KE tech that even GoK shuns and suffer inefficiencies, on the other hand Tz is concentrating on what its good at and diversifying to the low hanging fruits like agri processing and Airtransportation value chains..
Tz will not spend money in building a silicon valley, it will just buy the cheapest and most reliable tech to run its economy

Kenya
Kenya’s Safaricom will start a joint venture worth $13 million with South Africa’s Vodacom to acquire the intellectual property rights of M-Pesa from Britain’s Vodafone, Safaricom’sCEO said on Thursday.

The two mobile phone operators will acquire the intellectual property rights to the financial services platform M-Pesa, from Britain’s Vodafone.
Safaricom chief executive Bob Collymore said the deal would be used to expand M-Pesa services to more African markets, and to develop new products.

“It is about us (Safaricom) determining the future and the roadmap of M-Pesa. Because at the moment the roadmap is determined by Vodafone, and given that the bulk of the M-Pesa business is in Africa and between Tanzania and Kenya, it is right for us to be determinant,” He noted.

The deal will allow both companies to make significant savings on royalties they currently pay to Vodafone.
It still needs to be approved, but Collymore said it’s expected to be completed this year.
“We have got shareholder approval on this side, it is not a big transaction. You know for us (Safaricom) it is a six million euros transaction, so it is not about the scale but the related party transaction that requires us to get approval of our board and shareholders and requires them (Vodacom) to not only get approvals of their shareholders but they also require the South African Reserve Bank’s approval,” Collymore added.
Tayari bro vodacom washaitika👇👇👇
