Tanzania's cheap railway may be of poor quality

RE: “Poor collaboration is hindering regional railway project – report” (The New Times Rwanda, March 13).

Last time we learned that President (John) Magufuli (of Tanzania) has been able to negotiate a similar standard gauge railroad at $1.5 million per kilometre.

Dear EALA MPs, it is too early to conclude that Tanzania got a better deal. There is no way you can finance the construction of a one-kilometre Standard Gauge railroad for $1.5 million. Just imagine the cost of the steel rails alone, and without even including the cost of cement, rocks, excavation and labour.

I am not a civil engineer but common sense tells me that the Tanzania deal will end up being so bad that their railway will be of poor quality, very dangerous and more costly in the long run.

You will also say the tz-uganda crude oil pipeline is also of poor quality.

I wonder what was the aim of this thread. The railway hasn't even started construction yet, and here we are poking holes in it already.

For now, we should be happy that our neighbours are getting their standard gauge railway. Their growth is Kenya's growth too, considering that Kenya is one of the biggest investors in TZ.

Una tatizo la uelewa. Mimi nimeongelea ubora na uimara wa hosteli zilizojengwa kwa bilioni 10. Siwezi kuongelea uimara na ubora wa reli ambayo hata mchoro wa designing haupo!!

Teh teh! Kweli mimi sina vyeti kama Daudi Bashite. Na ujanja ujanja ndiyo namna tunavyoishi chini ya serikali ya CCM. Kama una tatizo na lifestyle hii, wasaliana na Rais Magufuli.

Ujenzi rasmi utaanza karibuni, hio mlio onyeshwa ilikua model (nafiki hata wachina ndo waliijenga pale mwanzoni kabla muwadukuze kwa hio dili)
Hua waijenga tu ili wawaonyeshe vile reli yenyewe itakua, kama mita 500 hivi ....
Hata huku kenya kabla waanza kujenga reli yenyewe waligenga model pale mombasa ambayo ndo ilitumika kwa ground braking,,, alafu baadae ndo walianza actual construction

Sio ya Wachina hiyo, ya Wachina ilikuwa Pwani wakati hii ya sasa ni Pugu, Dar es Salaam. Pesa za mwanzo za ujenzi zilishatolewa kwa hiyo hamna shida.
