The rise and fall of Colonel Muamar Gadaffi

The rise and fall of Colonel Muamar Gadaffi

Lakini tofauti na Tunisia, the Libyan are not fighting for bread and butter. Are they? Nafikiri hapo ndio wengi wanapokosea. Wengi don't know the reason behind the uprising in Libya. Unaweza ukawa na vitu vyote vinavyozungumziwa kwenye hiyo video and still usiwe happy. The video may claim to show the truth about Libya, but not the truth about the Libyan uprising.

In their first address to the world since rebel forces overran Tripoli last week and drove out Muammar Gaddafi, Libya's interim leaders thanked Western powers for backing their revolt

The African Union is encouraged by promises made by Libya's transitional council at a conference in Paris on Thursday and will now discuss with its member states the possibility of recognising the interim leadership, a senior official said.

"We were reassured today by the commitments made by Mr. Jibril on the protection of African workers, reconciliation and creation of a national unity government," Noureddine Mezni, the spokesman for the AU Commission's chairman, told Reuters.

Having noted with regret, the current position of Libyan leader, indicates he has little chance for come back. But his provocative remarks at the hide corners that he is going to fight from remote to retain his position shows common words from defeated man, for such case, a leader.

What frustrates his ambition is the involvement of big guns in the world whom have to ensure he never comes back to rule Tripoli, home of world oil, badly needed by France, London as well as Washington. Observation shows the Gaddafi family would prolong Tripoli insecurity, thus deprive the welfare of the people and property.

Examinations on the matter is natural resources, oil in particular. During his regime utilized his position as a military man, to play rough against Washington, London and even Paris administrations at any given time. Because his country has rich in every thing and his people loved him.

But as social scientist can say his over stay might have cost him his position, not only in his country but internationally, this is because, he came at a point he miscalculated his people believing them 100% that they wanted him in the post for ever.

Advise to him and his family is to cool down and accept the results at the time international organizations are backing the the so-called, 'Rebel' rule to ensure the accumulated wealth deposited at foreign banks are retrieved back into Tripoli treasury for the benefit of the people of Libya and not only for Gaddafi family.

At the same time general advice should go African leaders to learn from Gaddafi, suspected to be the most respected and powerful leader in African continent, that western bloc had respected and scared for every aspect. AU now its your turn to ensure no more invasion from the western troops, and make sure all African problems are solved by Africans themselves.

Kisima.

waasi wana akili kweli? Wanaua ndugu zetu bure hawa jamaa. Wahuni tu!

Of course I do not condone the lynching of innocent Africans in Libya, but that is not because these people are my "ndugus". It has mainly to do with humanity than racial affinity.

Plight of sub-Saharan Africans in Libya
By Wyre Davies

Migrant workers are often viewed with suspicion by both sides in the conflict

"Justice" does not know where the young men came from nor whose side they were on. All he knows is that they were aggressive and demanding money. When he tried to tell them he had nothing to give them, not a penny, they stabbed him in the stomach and then they sped away.

Justice, a Nigerian in his early 50s, is lucky to be alive. He was treated in a Tripoli clinic and now has a huge scar across his stomach. Like thousands of sub-Saharan Africans, he found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time when Libya's civil conflict erupted earlier this year.

Justice shows the scar he received after being stabbed in the stomach

Many Africans were accused by pro-Gaddafi loyalists and by the opposition rebels of being paid mercenaries, and were persecuted for that.

'Women raped'

While, there is evidence that many so-called foreigners did take up arms in this conflict, the vast majority were unjustly accused and now find themselves trapped in a foreign land without money and with few friends. The group of as many as 2,000 Africans I came across were living in a dilapidated fishing port on the outskirts of Tripoli.

Sleeping in disused warehouses or under the meagre shade given by abandoned fishing boats, Ghanaians, Malians, Nigerians and many others told of their desperation.

"We need help," said a 24-year-old Ghanaian man. He denied accusations that some people at the camp had been fighters but readily admitted that many were immigrants who had come to Libya in recent years looking for work.

"We are poor, with no food and it's so dangerous that the men here don't sleep at night," said the man.

Deserted

These people certainly live in squalor. There are allegations that the Libyan men who arrive at night at the camp in their cars and are often carrying guns have raped many women. The Africans do not know if their visitors are pro- or anti-Gaddafi and, to an extent, they do not really care.

The BBC notified the the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and other agencies about the camp and while they promised to help with some food and medicines, the aid workers said the migrants were ultimately the responsibility of their own governments.

The reality is that, while some governments, including China, India and Pakistan repatriated their migrant workers within days of fighting breaking out in Libya, many thousands of African workers were not so fortunate.

The people I saw, many of them with young children, have been left to their own devices in a violent, broken country.

They are often viewed with equal suspicion by both sides simply because of where they come from.

Tangu lini wa-somali, wa-mali, wa-nigeria wamekuwa ndugu zako?

Of course I do not condone the lynching of innocent Africans in Libya, but that is not because these people are my "ndugus". It has mainly to do with humanity than racial affinity.

Ms Mullah says that when she refused to beat Aline's daughter, she took her to a bathroom, tied her hands behind her back, tied her feet together, taped her mouth and poured boiling water on her head

Unable to go to the doctor, the Ethiopian sat weak on a mattress on the floor, as she calmly told her story to CNN.

Ms Mullah, 30, came from her home country to work as a nanny for the couple's young daughter and son a year ago.

She explained how model Aline lost her temper when her daughter wouldn't stop crying and Mullah refused to beat the child.

'She took me to a bathroom. She tied my hands behind my back, and tied my feet. She taped my mouth, and she started pouring the boiling water on my head.

'There were maggots coming out of my head, because she had hidden me, and no one had seen me.'

Hannibal Gaddafi, seen last year, and his wife Aline Skaf, a model, hired Ms Mullah at their luxury seaside home in western Tripoli to look after their two children

Reporter Dan Rivers said that when he walked in the room, he thought she was wearing a hat because her injuries were so bad.

'Then the awful realisation dawned that her entire scalp and face were covered in red wounds and scabs, a mosaic of injuries that rendered her face into a grotesque patchwork.

'Her chest, torso and legs are all mottled with scars -- some old, some still red, raw and weeping. As she spoke, clear liquid oozed from one nasty open wound on her head'.

A guard eventually took to a hospital, where she received some treatment but when Aline found out, he was threatened with imprisonment if he dared to help her again.

Reporter Dan Rivers said that when he walked in the room, he thought Ms Mullah was wearing a hat because her injuries were so bad.

'When she did all this to me, for three days, she wouldn't let me sleep,' Ms Mullah said.

'I stood outside in the cold, with no food. She would say to staff, 'If anyone gives her food, I'll do the same to you.' I had no water - nothing.'

She said she was forced to watch as the dogs ate and she was left to go hungry, he said.

Ms Mullah was burned twice, the latest incident three months ago.
She says she wants to go to the hospital but is unable to afford to do so as the Gaddafis did no give her 'one penny' in the year she worked for them.

A colleague, who did not want to give his name, also said he had been regularly beaten and slashed with knives. He verified Ms Mullah's horrific story.

CNN visited a string of luxury seaside homes in a compound owned by the Gaddafi family yesterday.

Victorious: Rebel fighters take advantage of the Regatta complex swimming pool where three of Gaddafi's sons have their weekend party houses.

The first house was apparently a 'party' condo which had a massive door that opened to reveal modern, black-and-white rooms.

Although it had been ransacked by rebels, it was still spectacular, with panoramic ocean views.

Discarded bottles of Johnnie Walker Blue Label Scotch and Laurent Perrier pink champagne cases littered the floor.

Only instruction manuals and large cabinets remained for the high-end electronics that were once there.

A circular bed was the centerpiece for the master bedroom, while the en suite bathroom had a Jacuzzi tub lined with plastic white flowers.

Outside, a hot tub, a bar and a barbecue area adjoined a private beach.

Another villa contained a white baby grand piano and expensive stereo equipment.

Next door was a large swimming pool and diving complex, a gym, a steam room and a sauna made of white marble.

Rebels were seen divvying up bottles of Cristal champagne and St. Emilion Bordeaux, worth hundreds of dollars.

Kabla hatujaenda mbali hebu kwanza tuanzie hapa hapa kwetu.
