To brush aside Americas responsibility as a leader and more profoundly our responsibilities to our fellow human beings under such circumstances would have been a betrayal of who we are,
Some nations may be able to turn a blind eye to atrocities in other countries. The United States of America is different. And as President, I refused to wait for the images of slaughter and mass graves before taking action.

Anaendelea......A massacre would have driven thousands of additional refugees across Libyas borders, putting enormous strains on the peaceful yet fragile transitions in Egypt and Tunisia. The democratic impulses that are dawning across the region would be eclipsed by the darkest form of dictatorship, as repressive leaders concluded that violence is the best strategy to cling to power.
The writ of the UN Security Council would have been shown to be little more than empty words, crippling its future credibility to uphold global peace and security. So while I will never minimize the costs involved in military action, I am convinced that a failure to act in Libya would have carried a far greater price for America.

To be blunt, we went down that road in Iraq. Thanks to the extraordinary sacrifices of our troops and the determination of our diplomats, we are hopeful about Iraqs future. But regime change there took eight years, thousands of American and Iraqi lives, and nearly a trillion dollars. That is not something we can afford to repeat in Libya.

La Waafrica wenyewe. Huku kulalamika lalamika kwa waafrica, kila kukicha kuwalaumu na kuwachukia wazungu hata siku moja hakutakuja kuisaidia Africa. Gadaffi hatofautiani na viongozi wengine wa Africa. Eti yeye ni mzalendo wa nchi yake, iweje awe amejilimbikizia lundo la mali US na Ulaya!! Utamtofautisha vipi na akina Mubarak, Ben Ali, Mu7, JK, EL, Chenge, RA, etc ambao wanabeba hela za ndani na kuzipeleka kwa wazungu na kuziacha wazitumie watakavyo!!! Yeye na watoto wake wanaishi kama wapo peponi eti wengine watulie wasimpinge kwa sababu anawapiga mgao wa vihela vya kununua mkate wa siku!!!

African nations should join forces to create a one-million-strong army to protect the continent and confront outsiders like NATO and China, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi said on Tuesday.
Gaddafi, well known for his forthright rhetoric, has acquired growing influence in Africa but his ambition to build a united states of Africa is not shared by the continent's biggest powers.
"National militaries alone cannot save countries. Africa should have one army with one million soldiers," Gaddafi said in a speech in the Senegalese capital.
He said the joint force would "guard the borders and seas, protect Africa's independence and confront NATO, China, France, Britain and other countries."
Speaking at an event called the World Festival of Black Arts and Cultures, Gaddafi also attacked opponents of his long-standing proposal for a unified African government. (photo: Reuters)

BEIJING, March 18 (Reuters) - China said on Friday it has "serious reservations" about a U.N. decision calling for a no-fly zone over strife-torn Libya, but held back from blocking the resolution because of the demands of Arab and African countries.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu laid out Beijing's worries after the Security Council passed the resolution authorising the no-fly zone over Libya as well as "all necessary measures", a term for military action, to protect civilians against leader Muammar Gaddafi's forces.

Russia will not participate in any operations in regard to the no-fly zone in Libya, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Monday.

Medvedev also said that the international community should consolidate their efforts to end the conflict in Libya through negotiations.
"Russia did not exercise [the veto power] for one reason: I do not consider this resolution to be wrong. Moreover, I believe that this resolution generally reflects our understanding of what is going on in Libya," Medvedev said.

Ivory Coast, African Union walimesema hawataki msaada watasolve hilo tatizo. Mpaka leo wapi. Kwa wameomba msaada UN wakakataliwa? Arab League waliomba in respect of Libya na wamepewa.
