Ni jambo kubwa kwa sababu wewe umelifanya hivyo siyo mimi. Ni wewe uliyedai kuwa Nyerere alikuwa hajaja Dar kwa mara ya kwanza hadi 1952, na kuwa mwaka 1953 akaingizwa kwenye siasa na Abdul. Hii ni tofauti na mtu anapofanya kile kinachojulikana kama "scientific method". Sasa historical method kwa mujibu wa Wikipedia (unaweza kupata sources nyingine nzuri zaidi) ni:

Sasa, mwandishi wa historia anatakiwa aende karibu zaidi na primary sources kabla ya kwenda kwenye secondary sources. Unapoenda kwenye primary sources you are close to credibility of your information kuliko kwenda kwenye secondary or tertiary sources.

Sasa what constitutes a primary source? hiyo hiyo Wikipedia inaeleza hivi na kutoa mfano:

na inaendelea na kusema In the study of history as an academic discipline, a primary source (also called original source or evidence) is an artifact, a document, a recording, or other source of information that was created at the time under study.

Bahati mbaya sana katika maandishi yako unawataka wasomaji wako waamini kuwa documents ulizoziona wewe ndivyo zilivyo! Unasema ulioneshwa barua na familia ya Sykes na watu wengine lakini kwenye kitabu chako hujathubutu kuweka hata moja hadharani. Umedai kuwa Nyerere alidai kuwa hakufahamu cheo cha Abdul wakati anajiunga TAA lakini hujathubutu kuweka sehemu ya hotuba hiyo (unawataka wasomaji wakatafute TBC).

Sasa mzee mwenzangu hiyo siyo historia ndio maana nimeiita 'histohisia' yaani unaandika historia kwa kuongozwa na hisia. Historia ni taalum ambayo ina kanuni zake na misingi yake. Kuandika mambo yaliyotokea huko nyuma na ukayaelezwa kwa kirefu haitoshi kufanya historia. HIstoria ni pale ambapo unaweza kuonesha ushahidi wa kile kilichotokea kwa kutumia vyanzo vya msingi (primary sources).


Kazi za kisomi anaekuja baadae anapita kule mwenzake hakufika.
Kwa njia hii kila siku kunakuwa na jipya.

Hili si kweli; kazi ya kusomi ili iweze kukosolewa kisomi inahitaji kuandikwa kisomi vile vile. Na ili iandikiwe kisomi ni lazima basi ifuate kanuni za taalum. Ya kwako siyo kazi ya kihistoria kwa hiyo ukosoaji wowote utakuwa ni kama huu unaofanyika ambao kwa kweli ni ukosoaji wa fasihi (literature review/criticism). Kwa sababu tayari tumeonesha kwa muda mrefu sasa kuwa kazi yako siyo ya kisomi na haifuati misingi ya uandishi wa kihistoria kilichobakia ni kukosoa uandishi wako tu kama kazi ya fasihi.

Randal Saldeir anaandika kwa kirefu juu ya kitabu chako -UNAWEZA KUSOMA KWA KIREFU HAPA - na anakutana na matatizo haya. Yeye anaeleza hivi katika review yake:

The ‘personalities’ referred to are revealed in the book to be the Muslim leaders in general, and his hero and subject Abdulwahid Sykes in particular. Note that the author, born in Dar es Salaam in 1952, was a two year old toddler when T ANU was formed, only 9 years old at the time of UHURU, and a 16 year old teenager when his subject died. He had perforce to rely largely on his father, his family and their friends for information, reinforced later by his own extensive and scholarly academic research.

His filial piety is to be commended as is his transparent loyalty to Islam which illuminates his book. The problem for the reader however is that the result of this blend of reminiscence repetition hearsay experience and scholarship is an extraordinary literary maze with paths leading in all directions through time and space, hundreds of characters appearing and re-appearing in bewildering succession, until one hardly knows which way to turn.

Although I have the advantage of having known personally many of the leading figures, albeit some 40 years ago, including Abdulwahid Sykes himself and his brothers Ally and Abbas; Ally in particular having been a close friend. The illustrations include an enchanting photograph of the Sykes boys in the 1930s, the youngest Abbas clutching a bunch of flowers and Ally wearing a white pith-helmet! Their father Kleist, a legendary character, died in 1949 before I came to Dar es Salaam, but I knew his kinsman and fellow Zulu Machado Plantan, editor of ZUHRA, quite well. They brought the courage energy and intelligence of the Zulu to the drowsy denizens of Gerezani, ensuring for themselves a secure place in the Muslim elite so often referred to by the author.

Huyu bwana tungeweza kumuita kwa uhakika kabisa kuwa ni "primary source" na maneno yake ni mazito. Katika hitimisho lake anasema hivi:

I can only close by saying that throughout my own service in East Africa and Tanzania (1943-1973) I never noticed any anti-Muslim bias by the British or the Tanzanian Governments. If anything rather the reverse since the great local rulers revered by the British like the Sultan of Zanzibar, the Liwalis of the Coast, Chief Adam Sapi, Chief Abdallah Fundikira and the merchant princes H.H. The Aga Khan, Abdulkarim Karimjee and V.M. Nazerali were all Muslim. After all, Nyerere’s successor was a Muslim; ‘the proof of the pudding is in the eating.’ CASE NOT PROVEN.

Sasa huyu mzee wakati anaandika review hii ilikuwa ni 1999 naamini ilikuwa ni baada ya toleo lako la kwanza; anasema hujaweza kumshawishi kuwa Nyerere alikuwa na chuki dhidi ya Waislamu au serikali na kanisa vilikuwa na njama dhidi ya Uislamu. Anasema case not proven! Na anasema akiwa mtu aliyeishi na kuwafahamu karibu wahusika wote wakuu wa kitabu chako. Sisi leo tunapohoji haya haya tunaangalia methodology uliyotumia ndio maana tunakukatalia kwua siyo kitabu cha historia. Ulichoandika huwezi kupeleka kwenye mahakama ya watu na ukawashawishi kwani kote wataulize 'show us your evidence"... so far you have failed miserably!
 
Na Somalia? imo katika kitabu cha Mohamed Said? Au ulikuwa unaleta "siasa" na "itikadi za kiimani" au nazo ni "tafakari" za "kitanganyika tu"?

Muislamu wa Tanzania anatofuti gani na wa Somalia?

Mara baada ya kifo cha Regia, baadhi ya wana jf, tulikutana pale British Council na tukaazimia kumuenzi kwa kuchapisha kitabu cha aliyoyapigania!. Hapo ndipo ilipozaliwa RMF.

Juzi wakati tunaadhimisha mwaka 1 wa kifo chake, nikitegemea kitabu kitazinduliwa, ndipo nikaelezwa na Mkuu Sanctus Mtsimbe, kitabu kimekwama kwa sababu hakuna funds, ilihitajika TZS 2,000,000 kuchapisha nakala 1000 za kwanza!.

Kiukweli nilisikitika na kujijutia nafsi yangu kwa sababu mimi ni mmoja wa wahusika, kama nilispend six figure kwenye msiba hadi mashishi, na kila mwaka ninaspend six figure as direct contri to support jf, tumeshindwaje ku raise TZS 2,000,000 ndani ya mwaka mzima!. Niliumia na kama mmoja wa waendeshaji wa kumbukumbu ile, niliiniate harambee na pale pale zilipatikana zaidi ya TZS 2,000,000!.

Hivyo hili suala na kuandika historia ya kweli, tukiamua, tunaweza!.
Nashauri, kwa vile Maalim Mohamed Said was "a man with a mission", na ame acomplish his mission for the past 15 years, tusiendelee kumbana humu, haisaidii zaidi ya kurefusha tuu huu mnakasha, lets be serious and do something positive as a counter measure!.
