Umetupa habari nzito kuhusu huyu mzee Mzalendo Idd Faiz Mafongo.

Hao wazee wamepambana siku nyingi lakini historia imewatupa mkono.

Yericko, aliandika humu kuwa mchango mkubwa wa pesa alitoa Maliale, Nyerere kwenda UNO Bahati mbaya huyu mzee Idd Faiz Mafongo hajawahi kumsikia wala hajui mchango wake kwenye harakati za kupigania uhuru. Hii picha muhimu sana.

Mbaya zaidi akijitokeza mtu akawaelezea watanzania mchango wao anaonekana anamkejeli Nyerere.

Pole sana kwa kukwazika..Ila nadhani ambaye alipaswa kukwazika zaidi alikuwa ni Mzee Nyerere..yeye kwenye kitabu kile ametajwa kwa jina na yooote aliyoyafanya yamaorodheshwa. Ingekuwa jambo la kusikitisha sana endapo Nyerere angesimama kumjibu Mohamed.

Nikupe mfano mzuri utakaokupa picha Mohamed ni wa daraja gani.
Siku zote amekuwa anasema 'wazee wake'' akimaanisha wazee wa kiislam.
Katika hotuba ya kuwaaga wazee Nyerere alitumia neno wazee wa Dar es Salaam.

Nyerere alisema hayo kwasababu wazee ni pamoja na wale waliomsomea dua na wale waliofanya matambiko.
Kuna vitu viwili hapo, waliomsomea dua na waliofanya matambiko.

Kwahiyo Nyerere alitambua kuwa kutumia neno waislam kunaweza kutoeleweka kwa baadhi (kama Mohamed) na hivyo kuwadhalilisha wazee wa kiislam waliofanya dua na wasioamini tambiko, au wazee wa jadi waliofanya tambiko lakini si waumini.
Kwa msingi huo Nyerere anawaita wazee wangu ili kuwalindia heshima zao, Mohamed anawaita na kuwavunjia heshima bila kudhamiria au kwa kutojua tu

Kwa upande mwingine Mohamed anawaita wazee kama waislam. Hilo halina tabu, tatizo ni kuwa inapofika mahali pa tambiko tayari amewashawaondoa wote katika Uislam kwa vile dini ya Uislam hairuhusu tambiko za jadi.
Kw vile anaongozwa na ushabiki, mara nyingi hujifunga magoli yasiyo ya lazima na hata kuiweka jamii wakati mgumu.

Sasa huyu ndiye alihitaji kujibiwa na Nyerere! real! Mo!

Nimejaribu kufuatilia mjadala huu kwa kipindi kirefu na nimeelimika sana. Nashukuru sana kwa elimu niliyopata kuhusu mjadala huu. Mtunzi yeyote wa kitabu kabla ya kutunga lazima kwanza ajue anatunga kitabu kwa madhumini gani hii inanipa picha kwamba Mohamed Saidi amefanikiwa katika kitabu chake kwani asilimia ya watu aliowataka wafahamu historia hiyo wameijua.

Pili kwa wale ambao wanamkosoa wapo sawa kabisa kwani nakumbuka wakati nasoma sekondari kulikuwa na kitu kinaitwa uhakiki wa vitabu, hapa tuliweza kupitia vitabu kama SHIDA, HARAKATI ZA UKOMBOZI n.k Tuliweza kuangalia wapi mwandishi amefanikiwa na wapi mwandishi akufanikiwa.

Na hitimisha kwa kuwaomba wale wote wanaompinga Mohamedi Saidi waandike kitabu ambacho kitafanya kitabu cha Mohamed kionekane kina makosa mengi hivyo kukitoa kwenye vitabu vya kuaminika vinginevyo ni sawasawa na kumpigia mbuzi gitaa.

When TANU captured state power from the British in 1961 and was in the first phase of consolidating itself as a mass party, it is said that Abdulwahid was asked by Julius Nyerere, then Prime Minister of the country, to record the history of the struggle of the Africans of Tanganyika against the British.

This, in essence, was to be the history of TANU.

To assist him in the research was the late Dr Wilbert Kleruu, recently returned from studies in the United States.

Abdulwahid occupied his former office at the TANU headquarters; the one which he had occupied in the 1950s when he was TAA President. Abdulwahid's personal files, dairies and his late father's papers dating back to the days of the formation of African Association in 1929 were made available to researchers for the first time as primary sources of information.

Abdulwahid's version, analysis, presentation of facts and interpretation of forces at play which led to the rise of nationalism were, however, not acceptable to the TANU leadership. We shall see in the following pages reasons why Abdulwahid's version of history could not be allowed to flourish.

Abdulwahid abandoned the assignment after being convinced that the new leadership in TANU was not really interested in documenting an authenticated history of Tanganyika but was interested in merely creating a personality cult for Nyerere.

Dr Kleruu went ahead with the research and completed the work.

This manuscript remains unpublished, at least in its original form.

The manuscript disappeared from Party archives and was published for the first time in 1971 under a different name after changes had been done by the ‘author' on the original manuscript to prevent detection by the Party.

After the book was published, the Party silently tried to stop the second edition of the book from being published but failed.

The work has now been published several times.

The approach, style and analysis of the subject is not very much different from the book on TANU published in 1981 by the Party ideological college.

Idd Faiz Magongo ni huyu hapa kwa mukhtahsari:

His stature was further enhanced by the fact that he was treasurer of TANU. Idd Faiz campaigned for TANU, accompanying Nyerere on the early trips up-country, and delivering speeches on the same platform with him.

It was Idd Faiz and his brother Idd Tosiri who introduced Nyerere to their cousin Sheikh Mohamed Ramia of Bagamoyo.

It was this introduction and the friendship which ensued therefrom which helped TANU make inroads and Nyerere to be accepted in Bagamoyo.

Sheikh Ramia was a very influential man and was among the most respected scholars of his time.

Nothing could take root in Bagamoyo without his support and consent. [1] He was at that time the Khalifa of Tariqa Qadiriya which was founded by his father Sheikh Yahya Ramia at the turn of the century.

[TD="width: 601"] In 1955 Idd Faiz was forty-three years old, full of strength and zeal.

While serving in the TANU National Executive Committee in 1959, Idd Faiz was nominated TANU National Treasurer as well as member of the National Executive Committee. [2]

He was later to be among the leadership that founded the TANU Press situated at the junction of Mchikichi and Livingstone Street in Dar es Salaam which published and printed the Party paper Sauti ya TANU edited by TANU president Nyerere, and later Mwafrika under the editorship of Rashid Heri Baghdelleh and Robert Makange.

The press was owned by Mwananchi Development Corporation and TANU appointed Abdul Faraj to manage the venture.

[TD="width: 601"] TANU needed about twelve thousand shillings to enable Nyerere to travel to the United Nations, New York.

The committee of Abdu Kandoro, Japhet Kirilo and Abbas Sykes had collected some funds from the provinces which were used on Ally and Phombeah's abortive trip to the Pan African Congress in Lusaka.

What was left was not enough.

Funds had to be sought from the people to enable Nyerere make the trip.

John Rupia contributed more than one third of the amount.

Other staunch members contributed generously, but in that formative stage TANU was poor and the amount was still beyond its ability to raise.

Realising the deficit in the funds for Nyerere's trip, Idd Faiz was requested to travel to Tanga and get more funds from there.

Mwalimu Kihere had already collected the money and was only waiting for it to be collected and to be delivered to the headquarters.

At the same time TANU received information that whoever travelled to Tanga to get the money for Nyerere's trip would be arrested on his way back. Before departure Oscar Kambona TANU General Secretary and John Rupia TANU Vice-President went to see Idd Faiz at his house in Ilala for a briefing and to wish him luck.

[TD="width: 601"] The journey to Tanga was uneventful but on the return leg the bus on which Idd Faiz was travelling was waylaid by the Special Branch at Turiani.

Idd Faiz was arrested, stripped naked and searched, but no money was found on him.

This baffled the Special Branch arresting officer because they had information that Idd Faiz [3] had actually picked up the money from Mwalimu Kihere in Tanga.

Idd Faiz was therefore taken to Dar es Salaam under armed escort for interrogation and was later released.

The money for Nyerere's trip to New York reached Dar es SalaamTANU headquarters safely.

The money was carried by a young girl who was a passenger on the bus. On 17 th February, 1955 Nyerere left for New York to address the Trusteeship Council of the United Nations.

[2] Idd Faiz the TANU treasurer died on 9th January, 1987, at the age of 75. In 1959 he was elected TANU National Treasurer while serving as member of TANU National Executive Committee. It was because of his honesty and diligence that he was nominated to manage TANU funds which became enormous, as independence was approaching. Idd Faiz died a poor disillusioned man. In his last days after retirement from TANU Press he used to spend most of his time reading the Holy Qur'an. Upon his death, Mzalendo, the Party Sunday paper published by the firm which he helped to form and owned by the Party he helped to build, announced his death two days after his funeral. The small article in the paper reported the death of a former employee of the printing company completely obscuring his political career. At his funeral the Party was not represented. What befell Abdulwahid befell Idd Faiz Mafongo; and what a coincidence, both had been leaders in Al Jamiatul Islamiyya fi Tanganyika and TANU; and both of them had once been close to Nyerere. Father James Lynch, the founder of St. Francis' College, died in Britain only a few days before Faiz. His death was announced by both the Party daily Uhuru (8 th January, 1987) and the government owned paper, the Daily News (8 th January, 1987). The two papers highlighted his contribution to education to colonial Tanganyika. Faiz, who founded TANU, supported Nyerere and fought for Tanganyika's independence, met his death in his humble house at Magomeni and not even the Party which he built, nor the government which he had helped to establish, were aware of his passing away.
