N,

Wewe mchokozi sana lakini unanifurahisha.
Wewe ni panya.

Unauma na kupuliza.

Jina langu ni Mohamed Said Salum Abdallah Samitungo Mwekapopo Muyukwa.
Ushaona spelling hizo...

Hao ndiyo Wamanyema wenyewe.

Mohamed Said kanukuu maandiko ya Sivalon, sasa muulize Sivalon. Au huelewi kilichoandikwa?

Count down to the killings It was in the afternoon of 13 February, 1998 that policemen armed with live ammunition were ordered to open fire at the people who were outside the Mwembechai mosque. From the video tape of the shooting at least four people were killed and many others maimed. It is also quite clear from the tape that the aim was to kill the Muslims. In the tape the police commanders are seen and heard ordering their armed policemen to take careful aim of their targets. In two cases the first bullets wounded without killing the intended victims, and the police commander in both cases ordered his men to shoot again. And they did, with unmistakable zest and ruthlessness. The tape also shows the police dragging the bodies of the dead and throwing them into the lorries. There is one brief scene in this tape which has always moved me to tears. The commander orders a young policeman to shoot. He shoots in the air. The commander orders him to aim his gun at the crowd. The young policeman is clearly torn between obeying his commander and obeying his conscience. The commander repeats the order. The policeman makes a brave attempt to obey his commander. He raises his gun, he looks at the crowd, but his hands become weaker and weaker, and the gun slowly falls to the ground. Was he a Muslim? Or a Christian whose conscience revolted against the idea of killing innocent human beings? I guess his name was not in the list of those policemen who were later to be praised and promoted for their fine job at Mwembechai. But why was the commander so particular that his policemen should shoot to kill? Why was he so sure of his footing? I do not know, and we may not know the truth without an independent public inquiry. What is known is the chronology of events before and after the killings.

""During the struggle for independence,
he worked very closely with Muslim colleagues, both at
the grassroots and national levels. For example, of the four
delegates from Mara Region who were selected to attend
the inaugural meeting of TANU in 1954, he was the only
Christian. The other three were all Muslims.
Furthermore, during the pre-independence period,
all schools were owned and operated by Christian or
other non-Muslim Institutions. Mwalimu Nyerere
realised the dangers which lay ahead because of the
segregation imposed by this Christian-based structure
of education. Hence, as soon as he obtained the power
to do so, as head of the independent government
of Tanganyika, he promptly nationalised all nongovernment
schools to give equal opportunities to
all Tanganyikans, Christians, and Muslims alike"

Ni dhana yakufikirika tu yenye kupandikizwa

Mauaji ya Mwembechai ulikuwa wapi? Ulikuwa bado upo Mkendo Kati.

''Sheikh Kassim Juma and the Pork Riots of 1993.'':

''The District Commissioner was contemptuous at the imams and he impressed upon them that the butcheries were legally licensed and the government was duty bound to protect them from being molested by few ‘Muslim fundamentalists.'

It was this government reaction which broke the camel's back.

On Easter Friday while Christians were observing the crucifixion of Christ a group of Muslims in Magomeni, Tandale and Manzese in Kinondoni District went on rampage and demolished pork butcheries owned by Christian traders.

In an operation on that Easter Friday afternoon a group of Muslims youngsters like well trained commando squad moved swiftly through Kinondoni District demolishing pig butcheries amidst chants of Allahu Akbar.

This was the first ever physical attack by Muslims on Christian property justified by religious belief since independence.

In taking the law into their own hands Muslims had fired their first warning shot.

When news of the attack became known the government held its breath.

President Mwinyi who was in Zanzibar on official engagement unwisely and driven by the fear that the country was moving towards the dreaded clash between Muslims and Christians, issued a hurried condemnation of the attack and ordered that all those responsible for the attack should be made to feel the full weight of state power.

By that statement a simple case of few frustrated young Muslims hotheads driven to action by insensitivity of the government to genuine grievances, was blown out of proportion into a national crisis.

The government and party media including the state radio warned of the dangers of ‘Muslim fundamentalists in Tanzania.'

The Christian lobby saw in Mwinyi's statement a blank cheque to crash all Muslims it considered dangerous to their interests.

The Prime Minister and Vice-President John Malecela issued a strong statement condemning the attack. [1]

In an interview with the BBC Swahili Service, Malecela referred to the imams and other Muslims who were arrested as a result of the pork conflict as ‘hooligans whose aim is to acquire power through religion.'[2]

The Minister of Home Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister Augustine Mrema, issued a statement saying that he was convinced the act was precipitated by an outside Muslim power to destabilise the country.

The Secretary General of the CCM Horace Kolimba giving the position of the party said that those who attacked the butcheries were not Muslims but hooligans whose aim was to overthrow the government.[3]

And Muslims patiently waited...
