The sunk costs are so huge. Imagine one to abandon a project which he has injected USD 1+billion.

The news paper misled us. The author was discussing as if there are only 2 shareholders in TOTAL. Through the link you provided, I came to learn that Amundi and BlackRock are not on top of the list of shareholders. So what we were discussing was empty set. Coz the employees of TOTAL have a big chunk of stock in their company.

BTW the same Total SE has shares in Lamu pipeline so if EACOP fails I don't see any pipeline in the region is to be built in the near future. I believe in Chinese n Japanese as they don't give a damn about activists when it comes to their interests!

The only way out is for East Africa countries to come together, raise the equity using the Ethiopian model and build the pipeline. On the other hand, Kenya which has a relatively developed equity market can lead on this area. From experience, Kenyans, normally snap up and oversubscribe on government securities. Combine this with Tanzanians and Ugandans, we shall build the pipeline but where its going to pass is the topic for another day

Yes together but through Tanga port as ur oil is too little for the region to take the risk of using Kenyan route hampered with insecurities! Tanzania coadt is the only place where Monsoon winds n where cyclones r weakened by warm air from Lake Victoria! Ethiopian model is already being implemented!

in short neither activists nor kenyans can stop this project. TOTAL will/must extract the resource from the ground and develop. current news is that TOTAL has declared force majure in mozambique LNG project. They have removed all the emplyees, therefore there is a possibility that financial resources to be shifted to EACOP project

Credit Agricole is one of the banks that are suppose to fund the project. They are also the second biggest shareholders in Total.

THEY HAVE DECLINED TO PROVIDE FINANCING FOR THIS PROJECT INSPITE OF BEING ONE OF THE LARGEST SHARREHOLDERS OF TOTAL!!
