Azam TV, one of Africa’s leading pay-TV operators, has completed the migration of its video platform from the EUTELSAT 7B to EUTELSAT 7C satellite, with a multi-year extension of the existing contract and an incremental capacity commitment.

Azam TV will leverage the enhanced performance of Eutelsat 7 C to distribute some 120 channels in a mix of standard and high definition across its footprint covering Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi, Kenya and Rwanda.

Commenting on the deal, Patrice Paquot, Deputy Regional Vice President, Sub Saharan Africa of Eutelsat said: “We are honoured to continue to partner with Azam, one of our anchor customers at the 7° East position as it successfully expands it broadcast offer. 7° East has become a new DTH hotspot for Sub-Saharan Africa and a key pay-TV neighbourhood for Eastern Africa with some of the fastest growth rates in the region.”

Jacob Joseph, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Azam added: “Every Azam TV household will have the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of local and international programmes with excellent signal quality. Ruby Ring originated on KBS in South Korea

Macedonian broadcaster Kanal 5 and African satellite service provider Azam TV have picked up Ukrainian drama Ruby Ring from India-based distributor GoQuest Media.

Produced by Media Group Ukraine and adapted from South Korean channel KBS’s show of the same name, Ruby Ring tells the story of two sisters whose lives are changed drastically by events that put them in conflict with one another.

Azam TV, based in Tanzania, has acquired the rights to 95×45′ episodes of the drama, which will air on the Azam Media channel in eight East African countries.

Kanal 5, meanwhile, has acquired rights to the drama in Macedonia.

Ruby Ring has aired in 45 countries, including a local adaptation in Indonesia after the rights to the series were picked up by ANTV earlier this year.
