William’s late mother, Lady Diana Spencer, married Charles, Prince of Wales in 1981 at Westminster Abbey.
She then inherited the title, Diana, Princess of Wales – though she was affectionately known as simply Princess Diana.
When Prince William becomes Prince of Wales – when dad Charles becomes King – Kate will have the right to have the title Catherine, Princess of Wales, like Diana did.
But the title of Princess of Wales is not automatic for Kate, as the title of Prince of Wales must be awarded by the monarch.
So when Prince Charles becomes King, it will be up to him to appoint Prince William as Prince of Wales.
William is currently second-in-line to the British throne after his father.
Unlike our current monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, who was born a Princess, Kate will not be an official Queen.
After Prince William becomes King, it is likely Prince George will become the Prince of Wales, as he would be next in line to the throne.
This comes after it was revealed that Prince William does not wear a wedding ring, simply because he does not like jewellery.
He made the decision when marrying Catherine that he wouldn’t wear a wedding ring.
Prince William takes after his grandfather Prince Philip in this way. The Queen’s husband has never worn a wedding ring during their 72-year marriage.
