any airline registered in Tanzania sisi tuko na open airspace! ATCL is also being revived 2 new planes in September and third by end of this year and that is to go on for the next 5 years! 15 planes will be enough to give KQ the run for her money..

According to the Minister for Works, Transport and Communication, Prof Makame Mbarawa, the new terminal will include shopping malls and several other business outlets offering plenty of job opportunities.
It will accommodate at least six million passengers per annum, compared to Terminal II currently in use which can handle between 1.5 and 2 million passengers per year.
“Upon completion, the facility will be 540 metres (just over half a kilometre) long horizontally, making it capable of dealing with 20 flights at a time,” the minister said.
Prof Mbarawa was speaking after inspecting both terminals during a tour of JNIA on Wednesday in order to acquaint himself with the challenges that passengers and staff have to deal with there.
The minister said the cost of construction for phases one and two of the Terminal III project amounted to 254 million euros, with the contractor having completed 45 per cent of the job so far.
According to Tanzania Airport Authority (TAA) acting director general George Sambali, about 20 per cent of all international traffic to and from Dar es Salaam currently passes through the Nairobi connection route, while the South African and Ethiopian connection routes cover 45 per cent of the traffic.
Once Terminal III is completed, there will be no need for such connection flights when travelling to or from Dar es Salaam, Sambali explained.
He elaborated on other TAA plans to improve the country’s airport network with the aim of helping boost trade with neighbouring countries.
The Songwe airport currently under construction will facilitate movement of goods to Eastern Congo and Malawi, while the planned expansion of Kigoma airport is expected to boost trade with Burundi and Rwanda, he explained.
At the same time, the expansion of Mwanza airport is now in progress to make it an aviation centre in the next few years, he added.
“When all these airports become fully operational, JNIA in Dar es Salaam will be a hub to facilitate flight connections within the country,” Sambali said.
Meanwhile, minister Mbarawa directed the Immigration Department, Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) and National Microfinance Bank (NMB) to work closely together to facilitate a smoother issuance of visas to foreign passengers arriving at JNIA’s Terminal II.
He gave the directive after observing long queues of passengers waiting for visas at the terminal.

THE Minister for Works, Transport and Communications, Prof Makame Mbarawa, has directed responsible authorities at Terminal II of Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) to speed-up processing of visas to check delays in issuance of the permits for foreigners arriving at the airfield.
Prof Mbarawa made the directive in Dar es Salaam yesterday after a tour at the three terminals of the country’s main gateway for air transport. “It takes more than one hour for foreign passengers to process the visas and this is not healthy considering that some of them have travelled for long distances covering up to 18 hours,” the minister noted with concern.
The minister observed firsthand how the arrival lounge at Terminal II was crowded with passengers who were waiting for their entry permits to be processed. An official with the Immigration Department put the blame on the National Microfinance Bank (NMB) for the delays since it had only two bank clerks to receive payments for handing out the visas.
“We have six counters with immigration officers charged with the task but NMB has only two tellers,” the official informed the minister. However, Minister Mbarawa urged the responsible parties against trading blames and instead work jointly to address the challenge.
“All responsible parties including the Customs Department, the Immigration Department and the bank should chart out ways of solving the problem”, he instructed. The visit by Prof Mbarawa was also a follow-up on directives by President John Magufuli in May, this year, where he instructed that two security scanners at Terminal I which were defective should be fixed. “I have been informed that the machines have been fixed and now operating.
The other issue I was following up was theft of jet fuel which I was told it has been curbed,” he explained. On the other hand, Prof Mbarawa was delighted with the ongoing construction of Terminal III at JNIA, expressing optimism that the multi-million project will be completed by December, next year.
“The execution of the project is now at between 42 and 45 per cent, upon completion the new terminal will have the capacity to accommodate 21 planes at once including the largest passenger aircraft Airbus A 380,” the minister noted.
The Acting Director General of Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA), Engineer George Sambali, told journalists during the tour that 45 per cent of international air transport traffic from Tanzania is taken by other countries due to lack of modern airport and thriving national carrier.
“We would be able to capture the international traffic once Terminal III is completed and when Air Tanzania is patched-up,” he noted. Eng Sambali said plans were underway to upgrade other airstrips in the country to provide links to the JNIA from other countries in the region.

DAR ES SALAAM, July 20 (Reuters) - Tanzania has secured a $7.6 billion loan from China's Export-Import Bank (Exim) to build a railway line that will link it to its neighbours, President John Magufuli's office said on Wednesday.
Tanzania wants to profit from its long coastline and upgrade its rickety railways and roads to serve growing economies in the landlocked heart of Africa.
Magufuli's office said in a statement Exim had agreed to provide the concessional loan to finance construction of a major standard gauge railway line, which will start in this financial year.
The announcement follows talks between Magufuli and Exim Bank President Liu Liange in Tanzania's administrative capital Dodoma on Wednesday.
"The planned standard gauge railway line will improve regional trade links and help to boost the economies of Tanzania and its landlocked neighbours including Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)," the statement said.
Natural gas discoveries in Tanzania and oil finds in Kenya and Uganda have turned East Africa into an exploration hotspot for oil firms but transport infrastructure in those countries has suffered from decades of neglect and under-investment.
Tanzania said last year it had awarded contracts to Chinese firms to build new railway lines, expanding Beijing's presence in East Africa's second-biggest economy.
In 2014 it signed an agreement with China Merchant Holding International to build a mega port and economic zone at Bagamoyo that is expected to cost at least $10 billion.
Exim Bank is also financing a $1.2 billion, 532 km (330 mile) natural gas pipeline in Tanzania.
Tanzania's finance and planning ministry said in a separate statement on Wednesday the country had secured a $200 million loan from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to finance transport infrastructure projects. (Reporting by Fumbuka Ng'wanakialala; Editing by George Obulutsa and Susan Thomas)

The government of Uganda defended its decision to construct an oil pipe line through Tanzania, breaking its silence on why it had abandoned an earlier plan to build it through Kenya.
Ugandan legislators on Tuesday questioned why government had abandoned an earlier plan to construct the oil pipeline from Lake Albert to Kenya's Lamu Port.
The government changed to Tanzania because it's cheaper than using Kenya's route to Lamu Port
The pipeline will now be built through Tanzania'a Tanga Port.
"The government changed to Tanzania because it's cheaper than using Kenya's route to Lamu Port," Dozith Abeinomugisha, the assistant commissioner in charge of oil refinery in the Energy ministry, said.
Abeinomugisha said the Kenyan route would delay the project, as it lacks existing roads coupled with the fact that it is always affected by monsoon winds for up to three months annually.
The 1,400km pipeline will connect Uganda's western region, near Hoima – where big oil reserves have been discovered – with Tanzania's port of Tanga.
The project is expected to cost about $4 billion and create 15,000 jobs.

The good thing is we are pretty sure of paying back as the distance between the landlocked countries and the cost is shorter via Tanzania something Kenya can not say about! If at all we r to have the two lines! I am 100% sure Tanzania line will pay back the loan faster than the Kenyan line be assured of that! With oil from Uganda going through Tanzania and Rwanda and Burundi opting for Tanzanian route, and with DRC being our natural customer! I don't see Kenya getting returns out of SRG knowing Tanga is for expansion while construction of Bagamoyo port is to kick start! The best thing would have been Kenya concentrating on South Sudan and Somalia but insecurity up North will mess up the infrastructure! Read once more about projects in 2017 in Bloomberg to know the SRG project in Kenya wasn't a good idea!
