African Satellite World and Sat Gear

I recently bought myself SRT 4922 HD satellite receiver updated its software to 1.19p but I have failed to activate its
internet apps like YOUTUBE and Flickr. I am using D-Link DIR 412 with its latest firmware version 1.15 WW plus
Orange mobile broadband USB 3G modem. I have followed all instructions as detailed by Kungu but no success. All the lights have turned green except the INTERNET LED which has remained yellow. By
the way even on my PC that light has remained yellow while all others have turned green.
What is it that I have missed to do? Will those who have managed to link their SRT 4922 with DIR 412 router please
advise? You can PM me for more details. I"ll appreciate your help. Thanks

PS: I was wondering where everybody had gone, kumbe you are here. Nice to be with you also.

Ok, how a about 10e? is it reliable with a 1.8m?
hi pal.
i tried once but signal for kenyan mux are not stable. but at the time i didn‘t remove telfon/polariser from my LNB. someone said on this forum that it work well without teflon in lnb. am away from my setup for now and can‘t confirm but i wil be there in one and half week.

AsiaSat 3S 105E footprint doesnt cover Ethiopia guess you need a 3.0M pan going up to nab the bird whereas
Asiasat 5 100E covers most of Ethiopia well.

Hi Yako2. I also purchased an SRT4922 about a week ago, and have been exploring its various features. Unlike you, i was not brave enough to update the firmware, just left the version that was installed at the shop, July 2012, I heard others had problems after update.

I have connected to the internet, using DCHP to automatically detect IP settings. I have my SRT4922 connected by a (very long) wire to a JTL Faiba router with fast internet connection. The SRT picks up the internet ok, and the IP screen shows the changed new IP and DNS settings etc, so that all looks ok. But I CANNOT access YOUTUBE. I do get access to the internet radio (not much use, the search engine is poor) and Maps (who wants maps on a Sat decoder?). Did you notice that on page 38 of the printed SRT4922 users manual that it states in bold print, just above Figure 6.5.1, "Note: To use YOUTUBE, please install USB storage & Internal HDD". Now, that is an interesting instruction in itself, how do you install an INTERNAL HDD in the SRT? - I think they were just confused with their english, and meant "please install USB storage OR an EXTERNAL HDD". Anyway, I did install an external HDD, all formatted and working, and YOUTUBE would still not work. Message just comes that it cannot access network, yet you do not get that message on Internet Radio.

In one of his first posts on this forum, 25th Jan, Kungu1 states that Nilesat is the best Free to Air Sat in Kenya, and he outlines the channels that can be received with a 120cm dish, Samson twin LNB etc. These channels include BBC World (he shows a photo), CNN and Euronews.

I have what I thought was a good setup to receive Nilesat in Nairobi, a 120cm dish, SRT 4922, and Inverto Black Twin LNB. I get 700 odd channels from Nilesat including Fox, Fox Movies, Dubai One etc, but I simply cannot get a strong signal on the transponders that BBC World, CNN etc are located on.

According to Lyngsat today, BBC World News Middle East is on 11766, 27500 - i cannot get a lock on that, and
CNN International Eurpoe is on 11977V, 27500, no lock.

Is anyone else in Nairobi with a 120cm offset dish able to get these channels on Nilesat?

in nairobi, using a 1.8m prime focus dish,n a fuji stargold lnb,I get all the channels including BBC AND CNN...remember a 120cm offset is stronger than a 1.8m prime focus dish.

Please explain to me what is the difference (in terms of performance) btn the normal Stargold twin sg 200 LNB and the Fuji one?

Thanks for your response, perhaps I have trees in the way! - will see what I can do about them!

Good Afternoon Northumberland,

You need to adjust your dish elevation slightly to get both Eutelsat 7west A and Nilesat 201 on the same dish.

Please note both satellite are slightly apart with Eutelsat 7 West A @ 7.3° while Nilesat 201 @ 7.0°W.

Nilesat 201 is less powerful than Eutelsat 7 West A, so first track Nilesat 201 on your setup and the rest of the other channels will come through.

Good Afternoon,

You will need to update the firmware as the current firmware on your receiver might have a bug when it comes to playing youtube.

Try firmware SRT4920_4922_4922A_119p_130308>>>> Sat Upload Center | Humax | Strong | Dreambox | Tv Channels | Sky Star 2 | Biss | Keys

Samson is currently not available in Nairobi. Was searching for one last Saturday to no avail but you can try Inverto Black Twin LNB, I heard it's a performer....not at par with Samson but I am not sure of how good. Kungu can clarify on that.......

Good Afternoon Munyaga,

Will carry out tests of fringe satellite reception to compare both Inverto Black and Samson lnb.

results coming up>>>>

Thanks Kungu.

Are you able to nab E7WA & E8WA on same dish? I used to get the two birds using 90cm, but it seems the signal for E8WA has significantly reduced.Adjusting the dish to get E8WA compromises abu dhabi sports signal.

Good Afternoon Katiklo,

I opted to have Eutelsat 8 west A on one 90cm offset dish since power was reduced on the bird.

With this setup i can get both Eutelsat 8 west A and Eutelsat 7 west A on the same dish.

Am on locked Eutelsat 8 west A for KTV 2 channel for whole-sum family entertainment.

You are supposed lock with it without problem though precision is usually the issue with big dishes. Am in Nairobi using 120cm and locking on the channels. If you have a meter you can try to move the arm to the left or right, also try lifting the dish a little up when on Dubai one frequency to see whether the quality improves and try skewing the lnb

Thanks Permie, and thanks for Kungu1's advice and that of ColonelSahin as well. Energised by this information, I got adjusting my dish again, - you are absolutely right Permie, precision is the issue with a heavy 120cm dish, loosening the mount to adjust the azimuth slightly also changes (lowers) the elevation, because of the way the dish is bolted to the mount and the pole. Anyway, I did manage to boost my signal by a few percentage points and that indeed makes a difference, and I can now pull BBC W and Euronews and more.

I am wondering, are any of you who are getting Nilesat using the SRT 4922? If so , could you let me know what your signal quality is for - say Al Jazeera English and for BBC World News, so I can know if I my dish is close to being correct, or if I have a long way to go. After latest adjustments I get Al Jazeera English = Strength (L) 83% and Quality Q = 67%, and for BBC World Strength is 75% but Quality only 53%.

Good everning Yako,
I have experienced the same before with my original mobile broadband usb 3g modem as brother Kungu stated some are not compatible,so i had universal one which supports different networks and with this one it worked preffectly.Normally when its working fine you will see the flashing light on both usb stick and the rooter after about a minute or so.Hope this helps

In Kapenguria and receiving both Nilesat 201, Eutelsat7 W and E8W totaling over 900 channels with 90cm and Vsr 9155 HD. To those using bigger dishes is it possible to nab arrydia TV.
