I am amazed at all the open hostilities directed against this young man – Januari Makamba – who, as far as I know, has done absolutely nothing wrong to deserve such thinly veiled personal attacks. He is not an MP yet, but the heavy guns have been turned against him already demanding to know what he has done for Bumbuli.
As a practical matter, that question should be directed to the incumbent MP, if anyone. Bumbulians should ask, (make that demand to know) what the current MP has done for Bumbuli and furthermore, what he is planning to do if the voters elect him to server for another five year term. It is the right thing to do. As an incumbent MP, he now has a record to defend and should therefore bear the full brunt of these ad hominem attacks, not young Januari Makamba.
If the Hon MP fails to defend his record to the satisfaction of Bumbulians, that should be sufficient grounds to send him packing with his tail between his legs and give the young man or someone else a crack at Mjengoni. Five years from now, the shoe will be on the other foot; Januari should be subjected to the same scrutiny. That's the way it should be from now on. The Tanzania electoral landscape has metamorphosed. The days when MPs used to take their voters for granted by making empty promises and sugar-coating their record, are now a historical footnote. A new paradigm is now gaining traction: we expect our Hon MPs to earn their stripes like everybody else in real life.
Young (and smart) Januari does not have to have done anything for Bumbuli to be considered a suitable candidate for the Parliamentary seat; if he has, that should be the icing on the cake. When campaigning begins, he should only be required to articulate his vision to his constituency and the legacy he wants to leave behind after serving. If that is consistent with Bumbulians wishes and expectations, that is all that matters, period.
By the way, the same logic and courtesy should be extended to candidates running in other constituencies such as (are you ready for this?) Kyela, where, as you may all vividly recall, Mwakalinga quickly became a target of much vitriol and brouhaha from supporters of the incumbent MP the moment he had the cheek or chutzpah to declare his intention to run in this year's Parliamentary elections. We in JF are like inveterate cannibals; eating our own kind is quickly becoming a favorite JF pastime!
Fine,
The seat is open for any Tom Dick or Harry.
But every Tom Dick or Harry must reconcile their record with the pprivilege they request.
1. Will January own his words to the effect of "A Million flies can't be wrong, they eat shit"? Meaning that the millions of Tanzanians are like toilet flies, eating shit (voting for CCM) and therefore they deserve anything coming their way?
This is a simple matter of character and integrity.Kama yale yalikuwa maneno ya ujana tu aombe radhi tuendelee.Lakini asitake kutudanganya kwamba ana uchungu na maendeleo ya wananchi wakati jana alisema "A million flies can't be wrong, they eat shit"
